Vance McDonald Restructure

Yeah I agree but not at this time of the year, not much left to spend on and I really don't see a guy getting cut that would cost more than 3 mil do you?

 

Someone posted before camp got under way that if they dump Sensabaugh, DHB and a couple of others they could work out about 5 million there as well

 

Cutting Sensabaugh will free up 1.4mil, DHB 1.2mil and if Chick gets cut that is 1.9mil. That's a lot of money in cap space there

 

Not really... But all the get Mack hire dez talk is fueling the rumor mill hahahaha

 

Yeah Mack is a pipe dream so I consider 3 mil a decent amount of money.

 

The Steelers had $3.8 million of cap space before doing anything with McDonalds contract.

They now should have $6.8 million if the number reported are correct regarding his restructure.

Do they really need $6.8 million of space going into the season?

Couple that with guys that could get cut that could add on another couple million. (Sensabaugh, DHB and Chick) Id guess they all would stay though.

I just don’t see why they needed to restructure McDonald now and raise his cap hit for farther down the line when there really wasn’t a need to.

 

Maybe that's a sign that they have something in the works?

It could just mean that McDonald needed the money. You know.. To rebuild him. They have the technology.. They just need 6 million dollars and taking 3 now should help get him there.

I mean when I read "Vance McDonald Restructure" I was thinking something different all together.

 

Maybe Bell came to his senses and will sign for 3 million a year

Yes and no...Yes, It would free up money, no...Not that much...Those players you mentioned would have to be replaced, albeit by cheaper guys...But they would still get some kind of salary

 

They are restructuring so they can cut his A$$ and not have it be as bad against the cap. IMHO.

Agreed but if they get replaced it will be by low dollar guys so cut them numbers in half. For example DHB 1.3 keep Patterson 480K makes 850k in space. Do that 3 times and you have 2.5mil and this time of year that is a lot of money added to what we have already in space. The chance of finding a guy at 10+ mil is slim add to the fact that the chance of the Steelers signing a guy for 10+ mil is even slimmer.........jmo

 

Well that would be nice if it was true but it is not, Vance salary gets bigger each year but the Steelers can cut him at anytime without costing them anything. The problem is when you turn that money into signing bonus that is when it cost money, so it is actually just the opposite of what you are saying. This move the way I understand will save space right now but if we cut him will cost us money down the road. That is why I don't understand this move unless there is something else in the works.......

Their franchise QB Goff is being paid under the rookie salary cap, that frees up a lot of cap space for them........

They're freeing up space so once Bell signs they can trade him for Mack and sing him to a long term deal.

 

Why would they cut Vance when we're already at a critical position with injuries at the tight end position?

 

Vance isn't going anywhere but to the EZ. At least every 3 Rd game or so.

 

Sounds like we are now going to be just under 5 mil. With boz and Vance Mac moves. Switzer's money not withstanding.
