Any other reason to do this now other than simple breathing room going into the season? I though we extended the ones we wanted to extend already?

May be for a swing tackle? What else?

Vance McDonald agreed to a contract restructure.

About $3 million of his base salary for this year will be converted to a signing bonus. The move is mutually beneficial as McDonald is helping the Steelers free up cap space without taking a pay cut. Assuming he's healthy, which is never a given with McDonald, the 28-year-old should open the year as the Steelers' starting tight end. He's in the TE2/streaming discussion.

Yes, McDonald’s is. I’m just trying to figure out what they’d need the new money for. (New extension for another player, sign a FA or just breathing room)

Probably breathing room. They don’t like to do contact stuff once the season starts.

    Isn’t Mack wanting 20 million a year?

Breaking news: McDonald restructures, now Steelers can afford dollar menu FAs :dancing:

I think the move was for the possibility of signing any cuts from other teams getting down to 53. Wouldn't be surprised to see a move...

I'd be a little surprised if they didn't make a move after cuts.

Colbert likes to have around 3 million in cap space during the season, you never know when he has to make a move.

Correct but they had over 3 mil in space after the VW contract, you think something else is in the works?

This will make me feel so much better when I look at our salary and not see him sitting at 4.3 mil, lol! Now if this guy can stay healthy we are set........

I do.....I think they are going to do something...Maybe not earth shattering, But something...I think, that they think, that the window is closing...And though this team is close...They're still deficient enough in some areas

VW and boz contracts? I thought we only had around3.5 mil. Before those two contracts. I can see giving ourselves some backup money which could carry over if not used.

The Steelers entered Tuesday with $3,266,053 in available salary cap space for 2018 after the new contract for inside linebacker Vince Williams was filed.

Why did you give me a "against the rules" rating if you think there is something else going on?

That's not what I heard, after the VW and Boswell signing is that they didn't have much cap space left.

To be fair it seems like 3 mil is goose egg these days in the grand scheme of stuff.
