Firing Colbert is a ridiculous notion. The guy knows his stuff. Has he missed on a defensive draft pick here and there, yes. So does the other 31 teams. He also gets good picks in the mid/late rounds/UDFA. Sutton -3rd, Hilton - udfa, VW98 - 6th, Chick - 6th, Walton - 6th just to name a few on the current roster.

Colbert is good at what he does but the consistency helps too. Do you think coaches like Munchak, Mann, (we'll see on Bradley, Drake and Dunbar) come to the Steelers if they are flopping GMs like Sunday morning pancakes... (mmmmm syrup). Bradley a tenured college guy and Dunbar at college's premier gig at Alabama.

Not to mention the FAs that want to play here, whether from the outside or staying here after their rookie contract ends. The players talk about how they are treated more than we'll know I'm sure. Colbert helps create that environment.

I'll criticize from time to time, just like with everything else, but I don't want him gone..

Colbert is a damn good GM.

Draft at the bottom of the draft year after year, have your hands tied by an ownership philosophy of ignoring top end FAs ( a philosophy that is generally sound, BTW), and still keep the team a perennial contender. Yeah, tro da bum out!

Firing Colbert means nothing if you don't get rid of Tomlin too!

Colbert should stay, but I'm all for a new hire at HC if Tomlin doesn't win another SB by 2021. Cowher coached for 14 years... I'm willing to give Tomlin the same amount of time.

What about LBs? Not just mediocre, but dumpster fire horrible. Jarvis Jones, Dupree, Worilds?

Personally, Tomlin doesn’t impress me. Same damn issues year after year that never seem to get addressed beyond rhetoric ......Crappy secondary play ( I thought he was a DB Whisperer?), middling LB play, underachieving O with All Pro/ HOF players, lack of discipline/execution.

    I don’t need 14 years. I’ve seen enough.

I agree. I don't think there will be any improvement or another Super Bowl victory with Tomlin at HC. With that said, he's not going anywhere any time soon. He will coach the Steelers as long as he wants to.

It will be interesting to witness Tomlin-coached team for an entire season without his security blanket... Ben Roethlisberger.

Worilds wasn't horrible, he was a second rd pick who was a decent player.

Exactly. I guess you’re only good if you draft HOF players?
These guys have set the bar so high that it’s unobtainable.
We are lucky to be fans of an organization that has consistently remained competitive.
    Some people are just spoiled.

    So more fun facts

    The good (IMO)
    TJ Watt 1rd pick 30 2017
    Ryan Shazier 1rd pick 15 2014
    Vince Williams 6th rd pick 206 2013
    Jason Worilds 2nd rd pick 52 2010
    Lawrence Timmons 1st rd pick 15 2007
    LaMarr Woodley 2nd rd pick 46 2007
    Larry Foote 4th rd pick 128 2002
    Kendrell Bell 2nd rd pick 39 2001
    Clark Haggans 5th rd pick 137 2000

    Still yet to be seen
Keion Adams 7th rd pick 248
Tyler Matakevich 7th rd pick 246
Bud Dupree 1st rd pick 22 2015 << thinking he's due for a breakout year and will flip to the good.

    The not so good
    Travis Feeney 6th rd pick 220 2016
    Jordan Zumwalt 6th rd pick 192 2014
    Sean Spence 3rd rd pick 86 2012
    Chris Carter 5th rd pick 162 2011
    Thaddeus Gibson 4th rd pick 116 2010
    Bruce Davis 3rd rd pick 88 2008
    Rian Wallace 5th rd pick 166 2005
    Alonzo Jackson 2nd rd pick 59 2003
    Roger Knight 6th rd pick 182 2001

So about a 50:50 split with the good and the bad. Not amazing and not terrible either. Many in the bad list are 3rd round picks or greater with the exception of Alonzo Jackson which was a complete bust, but we picked up Troy Polamalu that year so not too bad of a draft.

A couple of things to point out. Vince Williams was a 6th round pick. Larry Foote was a 4th round pick. Kendrell Bell was exceptional while in the burgh if people remember and a 2nd round pick. Clark Haggans.. eh he was a functional backup that played good on special teams. That's why he made the good list. Not bad for a 5th round pick.

Regarding him becoming an unrestricting free agent deciding to retire at 27 years of age.
"Jason Worilds is walking away from about $7M or $8M per year. At least $15M guaranteed."

You don't pay that kind of money to someone who isn't any good. he had 25.5 sacks on his 5 year NFL career. Not amazing but not terrible either. I remember him being a sound defensive player.

Man, it's gonna be a LONG season. 2 game into preseason and we've got the usual suspects calling for the firing of Butler, Colbert and Tomlin already!

If we're firing people responsible for the bad Defense, Tomlin needs to be high on that list.

You have grades on players that haven't played an NFL game yet?

Colbert firing strikes me as odd. I think he’s a top notch GM even though they have had a few 1st round busts recently.

Tomlin and Butler however deserve any ridicule they get. Both flat out suck.

I think Colbert is doing a pretty good job and it's not like he makes these draft picks on his own. There is a consensus reached by the entire staff for the most part. I think the coaching is more to blame especially on defense. I mean the O has superstars at all the key positions and one of the best OL coaches that came in and raised their level to elite. Their success is pretty much based on execution and not making mistakes. It helps to have a HOF QB too. Where are the coaches on D raising their level. The high draft picks have been invested on D ....just waiting for the results.

Haha Who??? Don't even remember that guy in the least. (stupid booze). Neither here nor there I know, but I would have liked to seen how Spence would have turned out if not for that horrific injury.

There's a lot of guys on that list that came and gone without barely being noticed. Jarvis Jones and Alonzo Jackson are the only real high picks IMO at linebacker that have been "busts." Oddly enough I forgot to put Jarvis Jones on the list, which is probably the biggest one.

I think we saw a decent game by Dupree today. I don't think the case can be made that even with his production that he's been a "bust". Maybe not the pass rusher everyone was hoping for. If people looked back at the 2015 NFL draft, they will find a very unspectacular group of linebackers taken after Dupree.

Dupree was drafted after Jason Worilds unexpectedly retired to fill a need at the position.

which begs the question should have Dupree have been selected in the first place?
