if we cut these guys which i think we will that leaves us 21 guys to sign to fill out the roster. this doesn't account for bells 14.5 mil tag either. if we signed 500,000 dollar players thats 10.5 mil. we are a mil or two over right now. we keep about 3 mil for signings during the season. you're 19.7 mil. is down to about 4-5 mil. left with a lot of holes to fill.

When did Allen become a safety for the Steelers?

I get where your coming from however my thinking is we need help on the defense don't take away the strength of this team that may have to carry us and a guy who is cap friendly. We know with AB, MB, Juju we have a solid 1-3 trading one could hurt that big time. Keep these 3 and use the draft and FA to fix the D which imo is not far off. I know some disagree but add a good ILB and a replacement S for Mitchell and wwe are improved big time. Heyward, Tuitt, Dupree, Watt, VW, Davis, Burns and Haden aren't going anywhere no matter how much we complain about the here and are pretty good as well. Yeah some have bigger questions than others but when you add some help they will get stonger as well. jmo

My 19 mil is just on these guys I mention not restructuring and extending. I don't know how much we can get from that but you can turn salary into signing bonus like they did with Cam:

On September 4, 2017 Heyward converted $4.225 million of his base salary to a signing bonus.

The money is there to be had and a lot of guys I mention will be replaced with guys on the roster and practice squad. Add the draft and we have a lot of guys making under 700k to fill the back up roles who imo will already be just as good as what we have. I also didn't include the 8 mil of Shazier I had read some place there is a chance we get an exemption for that but IDK so I didn't add it.

No guarantee Haden will be back, if they can't redo his deal they may let him go. I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere that Allen was a candidate to play safety.

They aren't gonna cut Haden after just signing him to a 3 year deal before the season......

They may not want to pay him 9 million either, I said they could redo his deal maybe make it more cap friendly.

Don't make a lot of sense that they would redo a deal they just did. They been looking for this kind of DB for awhile now not gonna let him go. The same thing with Tuitt, they aren't going to cut either of these guys. They may be able to turn base salary into signing bonus. :smiley1:

Since Allen has the size which they like, the speed, the experience (from college) and the need (if they cut mitchell, golden, Wilcox and gay) I could see him easily moved back there. They kept him on the 53 for a reason. I doubt it was to be buried on the depth chart. As for haden, that would be a lot of dead money we don't have and we need players under contract.

They could possibly cut Landry too. Think that would free up 2 million more.

Just so everybody is on board, when we restructure, players don't lose money,
usually. It just reworks the contract and down the road you have to pay for possibly some bad decisions with dead money. Wasn't it just a couple years back we were saddled with this problem?
