Mitchells to concerned about knocking someone' head off instead of playing aggressive and smart.

Mitchell. Davis was supposed to have help over the top on all of those.

I would take either guy at safety, but the Steelers are sticking with Mitchell no matter how badly he keeps screwing up.

I feel like a downer Dave saying this, but this defense is a liability.

I dont know how far we make it with them.

Even if we get past the PATS, the NFC team we face will most likely be a very high powered offense.

Optimistic, perhaps, but maybe Butler came into the CLE game with a really bland game plan. Provide no (more) game film, and figure it’ll be good enough for the Browns.

we have two weeks to shake it up. gay, hilton or brian allen would be my move to safety for the playoffs. it couldn't be worse than mitchell. haden, sutton at the corners. but they won't change a thing.

    draft:

    S
    ILB
    OLB
    CB
    S
    NT
defense heavy after QB if.

At that point in the season teams have all the film they need. Film of Missed tackles and poor pursuit angles.

Yes, I'm worried about our D.

It most certainly can be changed. Our problems are largely mental errors. There’s no doubt in my mind they’ve been over these breakdowns repeatedly, but for some reason they keep happening.

Could it be that some of you over exaggerate about Mitchell being bad?

Hilton at Safety? He's the smallest guy on the team. DHB at safety is a better idea.

Our defense is a liability period! We miss Shazier and Mitchell is horrible at safety! I’m worried that we give up big plays in the pass game.

Our best Defense would be a Single high look.http://allgbp.com/2014/05/06/xs-and-os-the-single-high-safety-defense-cover-1/

This is a nice article it shows why you play it and is exactly what is needed to play tighter coverage and have a extra run stopper .

Necessary Skill Set to Play Cover 1

Dom Capers really likes the single-high safety scheme. It allows him to be more creative underneath and apply more exotic attack packages.

However, the cover 1 requires a very talented safety to execute it. Specifically, the safety must be:

    • Fast because he must cover a lot of ground very quickly.
    • Fluid and nimble because he must be able to change directions very quickly.
    • Excellent in recognition skills for routes, ball, and quarterback.
    • Instinctual to anticipate how the play unfolds.
    • Smart because he must choose proper angles to drive to the ball.

This is why I stated to move DHB to that spot .He is fast.He is nimble and can jump.He knows routes his OC says so .Seems like a very smart player from all his Coaches perspective.

We should take Mike off the field and put DHB 20 yards deep let him just play the back half of the field and put Davis in the box to help support the run and put more pressure on quick routes . Force the QB to hold the ball and go deep this will allow our blitzes to get home .

Single high is not rocket science read the QB and react . Our current Safety play can't react so basically we are playing with 9 defenders and giving Teams more space in the box than should be .

i'm sure he's not but he was one guy that kept gronk from catching a pass a couple of weeks ago. it's not because he couldn't play FS.

I don't know about making him a FS on a permanent basis but they need to do something unconventional against Gronk.

Hilton is a strong tackler, can cover a little, and (unlike our safeties) has a football IQ above that of a bag of sand. If you somehow put him on Gronk could it possible go any worse than it did a few weeks ago?

Same place as always . The point is still the same . Our 2 Deep guys almost never make a play on deep balls . They have tape to prove it .
Our run D is very leaky. The tape supports that as well.
We have been killed for years by quick passing games. The tape proves that as well.
The #1 skill to play Single High Safety is speed per a NFL expert . DHB has shown he has much more of that than anyone on the Team. On those long deep balls DHB could run to the spot the ball is landing and half way back to where he started before the ball even lands...Mike is 15 yards away when the ball is thrown and still 10 yards away when it lands .

This is the main play the Single High guy must make and DHB can and would be there when the ball arrived thus having a much greater chance to break up the play .

Pittsburgh's defense was not near playoff caliber yesterday against a 0-15 team, the deficiencies will linger going forth. Haden struggled along with others not executing their assignments. An on going weak link which is strongly exposed. I love me Steelers but the reality is on Feb 4th NE will be tied with Pittsburgh beholding 6 lombardi's. I know it's hard to acknowlege for some, but an issue that needed nipped in the bud long ago.

As to your post the entire defense has it's vulnerabilities and yes concerns!!! Hopefully after another missed SB the org. will prioritize the matter.

we set a sack record this year and still gave up way too many pass plays. many said getting pressure would help our DB's look better, well........... it is about the players and coaching. we are not close to where we need to be yet. safety. corner LB are still needs we have to address this off season.
