All good things must come to an end. Bradshaw's elbow. Lambert's toe. Ben's desire and declining physicality. I remember watching Bradshaw's final game. He came back after being out injured for several weeks and looked good, going 5 for 8 with two touchdown passes to the great Greg Garrity and the legendary Calvin Sweeney, lol. And then...two decades of mostly darkness and utter despair at the position. There are no guarantees at the QB position. I don't believe that either Dobbs or Jones have that IT factor. Our franchise quarterback of the future is not even on the roster yet. The question is will he be drafted next year or will it be twenty years. Think about this, Ben was just shy of two years old when Bradshaw played his final game. Is our next franchise quarterback currently pooping in his diaper?

Top QB's coming out of college are more NFL ready. The issue at hand is would the front office trade up to get their guy? Because that's what it will take to get a top notch signal caller. Ben will ride out of the NFL, HOF bound, could have had 3 Championships if the Defense could have made a few more stops showing the decline of the secondary. I thank Ben for what he brought to the Steelers. This will be his last ride. Hopefully he can right the ship, but what I have seen so far the writings on the wall, as well as the continuity of the whole Offense. This includes Haley. Stupid game plan yesterday...

Let me fix that for you. It could have been 3 if Ben hadn’t thrown two interceptions with one being a pick 6.

I can’t stand to watch another mid 80’s/early 90’s team, especially with Tomlin coaching. Wow...what a thought.

It's funny that three of us can have totally different views of that Green Bay super bowl.

I blame the left guard who got pushed 3 yards backwards into Ben as he threw that ball for the pick-6 and the backup center who blew his assignment on the devastating Mendy fumble that cost Ben his third ring.

From a bizarre perspective - do you realize that Brady is probably closer to adult diapers than baby diapers?

(Speaking of which - why did the new Dad leave his baby in the same diaper for a month? Cause he read on the box "Up to 24 lbs"!)

I guess when you think about it from a figurative perspective, Ben kind of pooped in his diaper yesterday.:bscow:

Someone else said it already, but things are much different now. College QB's are a different breed than they were 30+ years ago.

That being said, I recall watching TB's last game above... distinctly remember when we kicked an extra point, a huge painted sheet was held up behind the goal posts saying "Bradshaw S*cks!"... TV quickly cut away to another camera. LOL

And I don't disagree that the quarterbacks are a different breed than they were decades ago, but how many quarterbacks have come out in the last 20 years who are truly "franchise" type quarterbacks? How many teams in the NFL have an adequate starter? A starter who can consistently carry a team to post season contention year in and year out? It's STILL not that easy to find an NFL quality quarterback even though the college's may be developing pro style quarterbacks better than they used to.

Agree. I just don't think it's as hard as it used to be. QB's like Ben used to come along once in a generation - now they come along every 7-10 years perhaps? And I'm not saying in great numbers, but they are there...

Steelers were a damn good team in the 90's. I enjoyed the hell out of that decade. Dont know why people lump that decade in with the 80's.

Would be accurate to say there was a 26 year SB drought (15 to get back there) but to imply that the 90's weren't a fun time to be a Steelers fan is the epitome of spoiled.

We had some good teams in the 90s, you are correct. And if Neil O'Dummy had spent more time being the quarterback of the Steelers instead of trying to find his ticket out of town, I'm convinced that they could have won a Super Bowl with him. If "ifs and buts were candy and nuts...".

Hey Blast - Are you the same "Blast Furnace" from the Steelers myspace group a zillion years ago? He used to say a very similar thing to people complaining about the drought. I agreed with you then and now about this particular topic. The some of the 80's and plenty of the 90's were fun with our RB's and great defenses.

Again, if we only had Marino

Hey oldschool! Dont see you much here anymore.

No, that wasnt me, myspace :lolol:

Loved those defenses and of course, the rules made a more enjoyable game to watch too. Hard nosed football, I loved those teams.

4 names come to mind. Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Alex Smith, and AJ McCarron.

I think Smith stays in KC.

Cousins who will be a UFA wouldn't come cheap, but it's not like the Steelers don't already have $23M earmarked for Ben next year already. Letting Bell walk and going with Conner and picking up a player off of the scrap could make him affordable.

I really like how McCarron played in Dalton's absence two years ago. Im a fan. He'll be a RFA and even if Cincy places a 1st round tender on him, he may be worth it considering you know what you're getting with him plus he has NFL experience, and IMO is better than possibly reaching for a QB in the draft.

Garoppolo is interesting. It's not being talked about much, but the Pats are at a crossroads this offseason. A HUGE crossroads. Garoppolo was a high pick and he's been sitting for 4 years. He's going to want his shot to start. Do the Pats move on from Brady, or do they stick with him and let Jimmy G walk for what may be only another year or two of Brady? Which, if it's the former and you think about it, brings Tom Brady's name into the mix. Interesting indeed....:hmm:

Made a post about AJ a ways back, I agree 100%.

Jimmy G would be worth a try as well. His price may be too steep though. I dont remember what the price supposedly was but I remember thinking to myself when reading it, thats crazy.

I think in the end though, they will rely on the draft.

I agree. 1992-1997 were great years, IMO... even though the QB position was a liability for the most part. Some of the best Steelers defenses in their history happened during this time.

I haven't seen what Jimmy G wants. Of course all of this depends on what the market is willing to pay. But IMO they already have over$20M committed to Ben, so that should can be their limit. Im not suggesting that they overpay a lot for any of these guys. But I think that they certainly can be competitive bidders.

So you give a pass to the Defense that showed the beginnings of the downfall of the secondary?

The defense Held an outstanding packers team to 24 points. Our franchise qb gave them 7. People point to ben’s arm being hit, but he was the one doing pumpfakes in our own end zone beforehand. Try not to forget Ben’s second interception that led to a gb td as well.
