What? Those 3 players aren't even similar, and none of them are anything like JuJu....

I was referring to the player's value for the draft pick taken. All 3 were WRs... two were taken in the 2nd round, one was taken in the first. Each are good examples because they provided little production for the Steelers in respect to where they were drafted.

I thought the JuJu pick was a reach.. like the Edwards pick in '99. I'd rather the Steelers reach for a CB which was needed at the time, than reach for a position that already had reasonably good depth. The Steelers had to keep JuJu on the roster, while they let go 3 WRs that were arguably better and more experienced in the Steelers system.

Willie Reid was a 3rd round pick. Still a waste.

It's more likely that Martavis Bryant signs a 2nd contract with the Steelers and JuJu is gone by 2019.

What!??? I'm giving Bryant a second chance, but one puff and he is suspended for a long time. No way he is here in 2019. Let him sign for big money elsewhere and let us get the comp. pick.

    Lol... nope.

As a week 1 rookie he played 25 snaps in a multitude of packages. He's basically splitting the #3 WR reps with Eli. He's such a big part of their long term plans that they let David Johnson go, and began running of what used to be their 12 package, out of 11 package. A pretty big change, but also one that will make them more dangerous offensively. Their ability to do this is due to their belief in JuJu blocking from the slot, and in motion.

JuJu is a huge part of their long term plans. Week 1 confirmed that.

It's ok to just say, "I wanted a CB, so I think Juju sucks".

I never said that JuJu sucks.. I said the Steelers did not get good value from their 2nd round pick and they needed to pick a CB or Safety.

"Tolled" is apparently the word the NFL used. Not part of my daily vocabulary.

They didn't "NEED" to take a 3rd/4th round CB/Safety in the 2nd round. They were much better off taking a 1st/2nd round talent at the end of the 2nd round.

Would you have been happier if they took Cam Sutton in the 2nd? It's possible he was the highest rate DB on their board at that time.

That's not 100% true, not when you have a chance to win a ring and the window is closing; you draft to win now for the most part. The Ju Ju pick is unlikely to be what get's us over the top. The Steelers look to be trying to prove everyone wrong again, at the team's expense, just like when they tried to prove you don't need a franchise QB (all those years before Ben) and trying to prove you don't need to make OL a priority (should have started to rebuild in 2006 but took 4 years longer than they should of).

IMHO, the 20th DB would not help this team. The AFC championship game proved we needed another WR. Although, Bryant may have been the solution to that, but at draft time, Bryant was very questionable.

OK.. so the remaining CBs and Safeties were not worth a 2nd round pick. Neither was WR for the Steelers because they already had good depth at the position. Why not take the best available ILB QB DE NT TE G or RB in the 2nd round? Any of those positions would have helped the Steelers more than a WR, IMO.

Realistically, the chances of getting a DB in the 2nd rd where we picked wouldnt have helped put us over the top this year either.

Again, good depth today is not important. The draft isn't about this season. It's about the bigger picture. Coates sucked, Bryant has 2 years before we can no longer afford him. The Steelers made a wise investment. They are smarter than you.

The Steelers surely had other players at those other positions on their board. JuJu was simply higher. I wouldn't be surprised if they had him graded as a 1st round talent.

If JuJu was the highest rated player on their board, why shouldn't they take him?

    JuJu is playing
None of the DBs drafted after him/before Sutton are.

    Try again.

They aren't trying to prove anything. That's your lazy interpretation of anytime they didn't assemble pro bowlers at every position.

But hey, maybe you've got it right... The Steelers are trying to prove "everybody" wrong, at the expense of winning. SoundS rational.

The JuJu pick is giving me a headache.... like the offense vs. the Browns.

I didn't hate the pick like many here, but I was shocked at us using a 2nd rd. Pick for a position group that was already considered among the best in the league...... I think he will work out well with more game experience and practice time next to AB.... I'm taking a wait and see approach

I liked the pick and if they were going to draft a WR, I wanted it to be JuJu or Chris Godwin, had a draft thread on it. Everyone is commenting on the WR depth, but like it was stated earlier, Bryant was a big question mark for availability. And then who rounded out the cast from there? Cobi Hamilton and DHB, please.... I like DHBs contributions and thought Cobi was serviceable but when you get the chance to upgrade, you take it. Justin Hunter (signed before or after draft I can't recall) is also a unknown due to his past history. It was a good pick.
And just like when they took Jesse James, he is super young. Rarely do WRs make an impact as rookies unless all they do is run go routes. He will mature and get better each year. Guy can't even go to the bar and order a Yuengling and he's supposed to come in and dominate week 1? in the NFL? OK......

What game were you watching? I didn't see a lacrosse player out there, I saw an NFL player that had a 1000 yard season.

People using the silly lacrosse narrative make themselves look like they know nothing about football.

Like I mentioned earlier... JuJu was the only WR on the field for 4 of the 6 plays run out of the 22 package.

His ability in the run game, allowing us to be more versatile in what used to be a 3 TE package, is going to pay huge dividends over the course of the season.

(and it makes the release of David Johnson, make a little more sense)

Agreed, but the 20th best DB isn't going to fix that. The other option is to put up more offense. And by the time we got to the championship game we didn't have the receivers to do it.

With that said, I still wouldn't have picked a receiver at 2. Depending on what was the BPA, maybe an ILB?

What specific player would you have taken with that pick, and why? If you're second guessing, do you have a better answer?

This is the hard part of it all. The DB cupboard had been absolutely raided in the previous few picks.

JuJu was pretty close to being BPA, hands down.

Me personally, I liked Cordrea Tankersley, CB out of Clemons but he ended up falling to top of Round 4. He made the Dolphins 53 and had an INT in the pre season.
