You can never have enough good CBs, they should draft a slot CB and a outside CB. Quincy Wilson 6'1 211 lbs of Florida could be a option in the second round or Kevin King of Washington both outside CBs.

And then come back and take either Damonte Kazee or Corn Elder in the 3rd. I'm really liking Elder's playing style.

I think 3 DBs are appropriate this year.

I would also love to grab 2 CB's out of this class and also hope to bring in at least 1 more as a undrafted fa. The more I read on Conley I would like him in the 1st but man if guys like Moreau or Jones fall to us in the 2nd due to their injury that would be even better. I think round 4 or 5 would be a nice place to add another Elder and Kazee's names are being thrown around a lot but my favorite is Cutrer.

I agree. You might never see another db class like this again.

I'm loving Tankersly in the 2nd.

I could see Florida CB Teez Tabor drop in the draft, dude ran a 4.7 at his pro day after running a 4.6 at the combine.

I'm good with our corners, and I'm not ready to run Willie Gay out of town just yet.

We need a better pass rush. Bud Dupree healthy all year should help. Our D line sort of under performed last year, possibly due to Cam Heyward being out, but was still the case even in the beginning. I think they will improve as well.

I could go for a Corner and Safety, but not two corners.

Who is to say Kevin King may be a BPA option in round one?

Looks like "Artie Burns 2.0" if you ask me. Just as long, just as fast but far more quick and agile.

If the chips fall that way, wr might have to boost our defense via corner play.

Again, I concur with your pass rushing assessment. It is something that the Steelers have been doing for decades. The issue is, pass rushers will always be in high demand. This draft is no different either. I really would want TJ Watt but it is not out of the question that he will be gone by then given the fact a team like Dallas needs pass rushing assistance.

I have no problem with King in rd 1.

I'm pretty much at Watts and King for first pick.

King could be that CB that jumps up to the 1st like Artie Burns did last year. I originally thought it was unlikely but after some thought, I guess I wouldn't be that surprised. Would have to see who is left on the board to sign off on it though.

I don't see Watt as a fit in Marinelli's defense. He's not a guy who is going to hold the edge as an end in a 4-3. I think Dallas would take a guy like Harris or McKinley over Watt. Green Bay, maybe, though with the resigning of Perry to go along with Matthews I'm not sure they'd go that route in the 1st round vs. a corner (where they seem to have a big need for a day 1 contributor).

Did you watch these corners against New England in the AFCCG? Yeah the pass rush needs to be better but the Patriots had running wide open, they need more versatility in the secondary. They need some corners who can play man coverage, I would draft 2 CBs and cut Gay he looked old at the end of last season.

In the AFCCG, I think it was 40% the talent of our secondary and 60% they got out game planned. You could tell the defensive secondary didn't recognize what it was seeing out there. It almost seemed fluky?

Maybe that might be partly due to inexperience of Davis, Burns, and Cockrell I don't know.

As was discussed right after the game, the Pats had used 4 WR sets on about a dozen plays all year, and then used 4 WRs about 20 times in the first half alone of the AFCCG. So if we game planned to the Pats' tendencies, then yeah they were seeing something new. That's not an excuse because we had certainly seen 4 and 5 WR sets from other teams, but it helps explain the confusion. You mentioned the inexperience of Burns and Cockrell. I thought they played OK, especially Cockrell whose biggest strength is his head. It was 1. The lack of any credible pass rush after the first two Pats' possessions, and 2. The coverage in the middle of the field (Gay, LBs, safeties) that killed us on defense IMO.

Perhaps you are correct on Marinelli's defensive ends being able to hold the edge.

Within the same token though, me and you can agree this draft, like all others before it, can go so many ways. Heck, I did not even expect Robert Agyuao, a kicker at that, to be selected that high from a year ago.

I think looking at this draft at a high level, there will be one or more very good players available to us at pick #30 at positions of immediate need for the defense (edge, corner, safety). If we take the right guy, he can be a plug and play starter fairly early in the 2017 season.

I'm less confident about our 2nd round pick. I expect to see a lot of talent at these same positions go off the board between our 1st and 2nd round picks. Guys who can also impact early for our defense. When I do the fanspeak mock drafts, I often find myself trying feverishly to trade up 10 or so slots in the 2nd to grab that last defensive gem at edge, corner or safety to avoid taking a next-tier kind of player or a BPA at a position of lesser need.

seems all the big fast safeties are in play. obi, jones, nicholson have all been scheduled for visits. peppers which i would hate the pick in the first if we passed on obi and jones for. i do think this position would give our defense so much flexibility to do different things. some other options for more of a free safety would be rudy ford, desmond king is a twofer option too.

zeke elliot running up the middle untouched. zeke going 83 yards on a screen pass. gronk down the middle in the first game. the uncovered receiver standing alone in the second game. sproles going the distance on a sreen in the philly game. i think all these are safety related. better coverage help for our corners works or has worked in the past. thats safety related. trying to cover too deep with ILB'ers and taking them away from the middle is safety related. we nee to sure up this spot. mostly mitchell. i think davis will become a good one but he needs better help and we need more coverage and range in short support.
