You have a measure that only Bellichick and Carrol would meet.

Good luck hiring them after we fire one of the winningest coaches in the league.

We look consistently very young and inexperienced on defense. Feel free to mistake that for bad coaching.

You know what I find ironic... the same people who for years complained about not starting rookies... are now complaining about coaching because our rookies continue to play like rookies.

Would you promote Haley to HC?

I ask because, it makes no sense to implement a new offense in the twilight of Ben's career.

The only option in firing Tomlin in the next few years is promoting Haley.

I agree that we have no edge rush but would you consider that a Colbert thing if he has the ultimate say in the draft room? I've seen some pretty harsh stuff on him these past couple of days too.

    It's an everyone thing.

It's Colbert, Butler, Tomlin, Porter, Jarvis, Dupree....

I know everyone prefers a scapegoat, but the reality is that the responsibility for our Edge failures go around the room. If you want to ultimately blame Tomlin for that, I am fine with holding Coach/GM accountable... but that accountability should be viewed in it's entirety (Ben, Brown, Bell, Oline, Dline, etc).

I'm a die hard Haley fan but I don't know if the players would respond to him. They say he's pretty rough.

No, not Haley. With 2 ex HC on the staff, not sure you could promote one without losing the other, though. If they did promote one, I'd like it to be Munch. I know some will point to his poor Titans record but he had less to work with. The reason I like him is because of his attention to execution.

I agree though, have to keep Haley at OC with Bens time running out. Theres been exceptions to this but in general, its not s smooth transition.

Yea. so what? Isn't that what everyone is saying this team needs?

I think we need some patience with our young defense, and should stick with Tomlin.

But if we missed the playoffs, and took a step backwards, I could at least understand the argument that Tomlin should pay the price. BUT, that price can ONLY be paid by firing Tomlin and promoting Haley.

Anyone who wants to fire Tomlin and let a new coach come in and hire whomever he wants.... they better be ready for a long rebuild.

Munch didn't even cross my mind... hmmm probably because he's the definition of a position coach, and shouldnt be anything other than what he's great at.

I'm not saying I would personally be against it per se. Just that if the players didn't really like him I don't know that it would yield much more fruit than now. I actually think Todd Haley is a much better X's and O's guy than Tomlin. Even BB has called him a genius. That's pretty high praise. Plus I personally think he was a Rooney hire too and I respect their ability to evaluate people.

I should have been clearer. By "cleaning house," I didn't mean get rid of the players. I meant get rid of the coaches, even LeBeau, and bring in the guys you want and can do things the way you want them done. That is how you set the tone and make sure everyone knows who's boss.

Thanks . you saved me a lot of typing and took the words right out of my mouth, well most of them I have more....right now I couldn't care less who coaches the team as long as they put a product out on the field that we can be proud of and right now no one can honestly be. I know ther is a lot of poor play and coaching going on in the league right now but this fan base deserves better than mediocrity. Not enough attention is being paid to detail ,that's what is causing the " sloppiness" we are seeing. We aren't leaving no stone unturned and we aren't exploring all the best ways to utilize our talent and putting our players in the best position to succeed. Why does it take a dismal performance to get ramped up for the next opponent? Why don't we come out with the same emotion every week? Conservative/wide open game plans week to week.....it's really like we go out of our way to play to our opponents level good or bad.

Tomlin made a comment last week that didn't get nearly enough reaction that I thought it would around here. He said that as long as Baltimore wasn't moving the ball and scoring they weren't too uncomfortable with how the game was going........what? Isn't the idea in football to come out and try to destroy your opponent....not just hang around and hope things fall your way. To me that's a major red flag and the reason why our record is so abysmal against lesser teams. I can really go on forever but I don't have that kind of time. All I know is ther has to be a major shift in philosophy around this team or just get used to more of the same. Do I think Tomlin can lead us to the playoffs this year? I do,because I don't see many teams left on the schedule we can't or shouldn't beat even in our current downward trend. Can we reach a high enough level to compete for a SB which should be the goal every year especially for this organization? Not without all the coaches and players giving themselves a long look in the mirror. It starts from the top.....

Though I'd still consider myself mostly neutral on Tomlin himself, I don't think he's the right coach for this team. I think there are coaches better suited for teams of a certain age/talent level. Tomlin is a players' coach. If he was taking the helm of a well-disciplined team needing a pep-talk motivator, he has a fit. I think when you look at some of the talent the Steelers have had over his tenure, you see a group that needs focus and discipline - areas a players' coach struggles to resolve.

I have specific bones with Tomlin's coaching, many tie in with a coach of his ilk: decisions more emotional that tactical, poor clock management, poor game-planning, lack of focus, etc. If he had a strong group of coordinators across the board, these would be less exposed. As it is, they surface with regularity, resulting in the inconsistent results witnessed over the last few years.

What I'd like to see (be it from Tomlin or whomever is standing watch), is at least some degree of consistency. I'd like to have a stronger idea of the what the coach's vision for the team is. I'd like to see a team that plays as smart as it is skilled (perhaps even more). My personal opinion is that we have more talent than our record has shown.

All that said, I don't have a short list of available candidates I would finger to step in and do it better, though perhaps they're out there. But until we have one, I'd rather stick with Tomlin than create a carousel.

What about a guy like Mike Shanahan? I saw him on one of those Ticket Exchange commercials the other day and started wondering why no team had tried to get him.

Some fans think firing Tomlin then the team will just become dominant , Belichick isn't walking through that door.

I disagree, why was he recruiting Porter to motivate the team before games last year? I don't believe his motivational skills are as great as most claim. He has an emotionless tact from what I can see.

Not the Rooneys style to bring in a big name like that. He apparently burnt a lot of bridges too, by speaking out about the Redskins management.

I always tended to think favorably of him as a HC though.

I can't blame him about the Skins. They're a dumpster fire at the top and that's sad. Not saying I'm for airing dirty laundry but just that I could see him being unhappy there. He went like 10 years without a playoff win I think though. I don't think they'd bring him in either but just that I'm kinda surprised that no one made him an offer.

Here's the thing about if Bill coached us. It would be hard to even know who was on the roster because he lets people go constantly. I just have a feeling that would seriously start to drive people crazy.

Thats just it, apparently thats a big no no, deserved or not. The thinking being, is he going to burn us too, if we let him go.

On the NFL coaching vacancies (very early talk I might add) I could see NE DC Matt Patricia and University of Houston HC Tom Herman as top candidates for vacant positions. They both have no HC experience but could be on the rise. Not advocating for either but just throwing out some names for future NFL consideration. Scott Frost might be an OC one day. Currently at UCF, he is is another up and comer.

Wade Phillips would be the target at DC if he takes a lateral move.

    Not sayin, just sayin'....

I would be shocked if Phillips would even field an offer for another dc job when you look at what he has to work with right now. I can tell you the guy who people have a pipe dream about here in UT country and he's calling MNF tonight. There's a whole cult of UT fans that are devoted to him and just the other day one of my buddies was telling me that he thinks it's gonna happen some day. I was telling him he's crazy but who am I to crush a man's dreams? LOL!

I think Gruden, Cowher et al are just too used to the comfy studios now. I could be wrong, but if they don't get a HC offer within a few years I'm sure they get comfortable with the plush surroundings of studio life. Don't get me wrong, the competitive juices still flow and there are outliers like Vermiel but tough for me to see them get back to the grass. Who am I to squash dreams though lol!
