You should be a politician, they way you twisted this around and obscured RPO's point was masterful. Somehow his post of we don't give cushions as much as fans seem to think became best pass defense in the world that never gives cushions ;)

I have to say, I admire the way he treats everyone equal and is abrasive to friends and foe alike :drinks:

You're right that I should run and he should run against me for the way he spun that one game in to the definitive "proof" that the "cushion" is a "myth".

You really think the Chiefs game is an anomaly? I'd bet that its pretty much the norm.

The only thing I feel like that game truly "proved" was that we are capable of playing better defense than we had shown up to this point. We tackled better and we didn't get beat up by the TE. I don't think our defense will look as good in closer games. We had them in an obvious passing situation for most of the game. We'll have to wait and see what our secondary looks like going forward when they are in more unpredictable positions. I don't feel like we generally play tight coverage with our corners though no. My philosophy about what makes a defense good is that it's not on the field much. The old saying is that the great ones get off the field and that's what I want to see our defense do. I am not, never have been, and never will be a fan of the bend but don't break defense. I just don't like it from a personal perspective. If it works then fine but I'm just saying that I enjoy watching a defense go out there and quickly hand the ball back to the offense by playing physical and getting after the qb and sacking him. I just don't like to watch the guys "tackle the catch" as much as I like to watch them tackle the quarterback.

Thats all fine and good but again, the whole cushion complaint is greatly exaggerated and we don't play 15 yards off the WR every play. Bend but don't break isn't defined by cushions.

Last year we were bend but don't break as well, gave up tons of passing yards but still had 48 sacks. Thats a lot of QB tackles. Up until the KC game, we weren't getting pressure but I think you'll see more of it now.

This is the second time I've seen you do this, what is the point of doing this?

You also erected 5 year old post yesterday.

In another thread about the throw back uniforms, you disagreed with every member who liked them, that's not necessary, once is enough. Abuse the rating system and lose the privilege.

    Trolling isn't tolerated. :rules:

I think something that helped our secondary greatly in this game was that they don't have a true deep threat. They don't even have a qb that could capitalize on deep throws anyway. So that allowed us to tighten up. This week we're playing a qb that is doing terrible right now and hopefully we treat him like we treated Smith this week. I think the real test for this defense is going to be when we play the Pats. I would love to see us play them like we did the Chiefs this week and even like we did the Pats in 2011. As far as what SteelersForLife is doing I have no idea what that's about. I'm sorta thinking along the same lines as you though...

I think its going to be another fun day in the gamely thread, Sunday :yahoo:

The injuries to our line and there front 4 is my only concern.

I'm really looking forward to the NE game and agree with you, want to see us harassing Brady all day. We'll need Shazier for that game, hope he is good to go.

On the note of that front four... Leonard Williams is my biggest concern by far. One could even make the argument of him being the teams best player overall.

Adding the likes of mallable defensive lineman in Sheldon Richardson and Muhammed Wilkerson just magnify those issues.

The thing that excites me the most about that game is the fact that Revis seems to be on the downward trajectory and I'm wanting to see AB light him up. AJ Greene did and if we can give Ben time then AB will do it too. Brandon Marshall is the 30th ranked WR now so I'm really not all that concerned with our secondary this weekend.

Yeah I actually started a thread about it to keep up with the yardage from week to week. AB is winning right now. Obviously.

I see all teams with the 7-10 yard cushions here and there. CB's are at a disadvantage so the cushions compensate. A lot depends on the QB. The theory on beating the cushion is a quick hitch and let the WR break a tackle and take off. Only some QB's can zip a ball out there properly so we see the cushions more against some teams than others.
