Now would be a good time to get your head out of your a&&, this defense has 1 freaking sack in 3 games. All this rush 3 or 4 and play coverage isn't working, you gave up 300 yards passing to a rookie QB and the pass defense is ranked 30th. You have basically the same guys as last season when they had 48 sacks, any QB in the league will carve up this defense when they have all day to throw. Where the heck is Tuitt, and Heyward? You have a lot of young fast players on defense it's time to quit screwing around and get back to blitzburgh.

It is interesting considering that, one year ago, blitzing was necessary due to the lack of pedigree in the secondary.

Granted.. the secondary is much improved.. but that does not mean you move away from what worked. If anything... blitzing from unsuspecting areas of the field could even showcase some of the balls skills that players like Burns or Davis have.

I agree either way. Butler, for whatever reason.. truly believes that rushing four will be sufficient. The major issue is that Pittsburgh does not have a tier one edge rusher; nevermind a pair. I hope this game taught him a valuable lesson and I hope to see some blitz packages against the Chiefs next week.

Some successful blitz packages mind you, running Safeties and CB into the backfield to be negated by RB's is a gamble but one that shoudl pay off from time to time for us but really hasn't

Well.. I did say some haha. Either way... the secondary is better than last years. That being said... taking chances did work well via the turnovers last year so it should work again considering the lack of pedigree now on the edge rushers.

I really wouldn't mind taking more risks on the defensive side IF our offense would actually show up every week and light up the board like they have shown they are capable of. The problem is that we just can't play consistent football enough to be able to fully "depend" on either side of the ball. I think that's why we look so dang vanilla.

Yeah this was like the third different game plan that had nothing to do with what worked in previous weeks and little or nothing to do with attacking what the Eagles defense was showing. I understand no Nix meant no real lead blocker but that open middle was just begging for some good old power I or at least tiny cuts of dumping off the ball to Dwill. I just don't get it

Not having Bud Dupree really hurts and the lack of legendary destructive explosive power is showing.

How legendary is it? Check below for yourself.

More information as told by Bleacherreport's Justis Mosqueda:

"When you chart out Waldo's explosion score for first-round defensive ends over the past decade, the results at the top are very efficient.

The top six first-round defensive ends in the category are four-time Pro Bowler Mario Williams, two-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt, three-time All-Pro Merriman, three-time Pro Bowler Orakpoand Nick Perry. The only blemish is Perry, who sustained early-career injuries and was demoted to a bench role after future Hall of Fame pass-rusher Julius Peppers was added to the Green Bay Packers in 2014.

Standing above all of them? Alvin Dupree, who netted an unheard-of score of 1.16."

Yeah I was actually thinking that MAYBE getting a healthy Dupree back might make a pretty big difference. I mean I have to think of SOMEthing to make me not want to kill myself. LOL!

I just can't help but think they didn't game plan for this team today.

I understand getting beaten, but you have to throw stuff at the kid to make him throw hot!

Last year should have told him that he can't get pressure with 4! It's not happening! All offseason knowing who your base guys were going to be and this is the best you have?

"Dur...I'll put 2 down and the edge guys and drop my middle LBs back!" Shazier was clearly not 100% and probably should have been shut down before he really blows that knee. His game depends on speed.

Maybe practice with Dirty Red there as he seems to be the better back-up as far as reading plays and positioning. I just don't get it.

You've got these new CB's with "ball skills", but you're not putting them in positions to make a play on the ball!

I have said this in a different thread, but this zone we are playing sucks. I am fine with no pass rush if you are dropping guys back and getting some turnovers but **** we can't even stop a 1st down. I watch these wr's make a catch and there are 4 steelers all around them but not in coverage. Now don't get me wrong I am a pressure pressure pressure kind of guy but if we are going to take the pressure away and drop more guys into coverage then at least stop the pass.

I was at the game yesterday, and it was even more confusing watching it live. On many occasions when the Eagles would run three wide to one side, one of them was uncovered at the LOS. One of the LBs had to watch both the receiver and in the backfield. I think that's an awful lot to put on one player, and they are bound to make a mistake diagnosing the play.
Another thing I saw was the inability to tackle effectively, which has seemed to plague this team for years. One of the reasons that the Eagles made the offense a non-factor yesterday was not only were they flying to the ball carrier, they didn't seem to miss many tackles.

soft zone, no pass rush, missed tackles that is the result. Need to start being aggressive and taking chances on D. We are going to be giving up big plays but who cares, at least it will give our offense more opportunities to wake the F up. Bell is coming back but not sure if that red eyed guy can be the savior.

Butler, go back to what worked last year when we was the sack leader and getting picks, this marsh mellow defense isn't working and your hurting this team more than you are helping it, if you stay with this present scheme sunday andy reid will give you another dose of what the eagles just gave to you..........
