Nice list, but there's no way to do that without notable omissions..

With the collection of talent we've been blessed with over the decades, we'd be better served making a top 5 list at every position..

Only surprise was Staunter, before my time so can't really say.

Top 5 is tough, best ever is easier, Mean Joe. Think we'd all agree he tops any list.

Without giving it a lot of thought, Troy would probably be around 8 on mine.

My #1 has always been Jack Ham. It's close though.

Top 5 is always difficult, though - I think I may say this every time it gets discussed - I'm always interested in seeing those less-renowned players who were still Steeler greats, but just at the wrong time. People like Lipps, Merriweather, Hoge, Kirkland etc. Certainly not the Top 5 ever, but maybe Top 5 non-superbowl winning players.

This is very interesting if we were to do a list one being super bowl winners and the other list non super bowl winners. I think that would be a ton of fun, I think Woodson would be #1 on my non winner list.

You can talk to 10 different Steeler fans and all 10 can have a different "who's # 1" player and you could make a case for all 10!! So I think it's impossible to name just 5 as the top 5. Now if you say Top 10, then I think everyone could/would name basically the same 10 but that 10 would be in a different order depending who you ask.

Troy is one of my favorite Steelers ever, but that's different than best ever. He's still high on the list of best ever, but I'd still put Mean Joe up at the top.

How about a Top 5 List of Steelers who never won a Super Bowl. Makes it more interesting

    1. Ernie Stautner
    2. Rod Woodson (well he did win one just not with the Steelers)
    3. Dermotti Dawson
    4. Louis Lipps
    5. Antonio Brown (Hopefully he leaves this list)

    THIS!!!!!!!

Example--- where's Franco Harris??? The Italian Army must have all retired!!! Think about it, no playoffs before he got here.... The I.R. ... No playoffs after he left for a while.... Also among career leaders in rushing at time of retirement !!!!

Swan???? Stallworth?? Blount??? Greenwood???? And my favorite ROCKY!!!!

    Ok, most would agree :lolol:

We've had this discussion here before though and Mean Joe was the strong favorite. Hams a good choice too. Lambert was a strong vote getter as well.

Woodson is my favorite Steeler all time, I'd probably agree, #1 non SB winner.

Yes, how do you begin to argue this list. All here can throw out a name and provide legitimate reasons for their "guy". I would throw out Lambert but not because he was the best player. I would say he was the best because he embodied everything the Steelers were and should be again. The more I think about this "argument" the more I am pleased that this CAN be an "argument".

Clearly the news of his number of fumbles in the other thread has put people off.

Such a list really is impossible to accomplish. There are way too many Steelers players in the Hall of Fame and I do not even want to get into the potential HOFer's Pittsburgh has currently.

Or non-Superbowl winners who are not in the HOF...

I think Lipps would top that one.
