No. Not Antwon Blake. The Steelers are the first team in the league to experiment with these robots that simulate football moves and speed. You can tackle with them and run drills with supposedly less risk to players. It's...cool...I guess... but also seems sorta weird. What do you think? I'm honestly sorta perplexed by it. Here's the story on it and there's a link there with the players actually engaging with the dummies. Again...Not Blake. Watch the vid. It's pretty cool and there's a funny part with Tomlin.

If it improves tackling, Im all for it. Plus it looks like a Raider, so more incentive to pound the crap out of it!

Saw that earlier today. It was introduced to the Steelers from Dartmouth via Dan Rooney's grandson, Danny Rooney (who played quarterback at Dartmouth and now works for the Steelers' organization).

belicheat is already trying to figure out how to get these things on the field and not count as his 11 players, just skirting the NFL rules and finding a loophole in the system to exploit them. :hehehe::cool:

    Interesting.

I watched the video on Steelers.com - Moats is there talking about how they use it to set up pursuit angles, as an example.

    Can't see the harm.

I guess I'm not really seeing the gain either. Is it really more effective than having, I don't know, real people out there simulating game action rather than robotic dummies? I guess it depends on how they're used.

According to the articles I've read the advantage comes in being able to teach tackling techniques and other fundamentalstuff without placing players at risk. Instead of placing 2 or 3 people at risk you drop that to one.

Only question is.........do you have to vibrate the field to get the Dummy Bots to move around. :hmm: (THIMK!)

This was where my brain was going. From when I was a kid. A big chunk of people on this board will have no idea what your post means.

I had the Steelers and Rams players. Not sure where that thing went off to. Pretty sure I've still got a handful of players at the bottom of some storage boxes somewhere.

I do have an older version from the 50s that my father gave me. I've held onto that.

CBA limits a lot of contact drills, I believe this is a way to work around that.

They probably couldn't sell these devices today because of the horribly loud noise of the vibrating element. My Dad and I would wedge cardboard and rubber bands between the vibrating element and the bottom of the field surface to minimize the sound plus shove towels under the closed door of the den to keep my Mom from clobbering us. Surprised there was never a Class Action Lawsuit for loss of hearing to all us boomer tabletop football gamers (of course it is attributed more to blasting our Frank Zappa albums a decade later).

I remember talking about bad pursuit angles last year in some thread. It's good to see they are trying to correct that. I agree, can't see the harm.

Yeah I used to wear Dupree out for it in the game threads. I noticed in the video that they STILL seemed like the corners were getting burned by the robots. LOL! Maybe they're just using these to try and perfect the cushion??? Ok. I will show myself out now.
