Shamarko really perplexes me? He got pulled early in the season from the starter spot and was never really given a chance to regain it.

Either he is that bad, or the Coaches just weren't trusting enough to work him back in?

I just wonder where the truth lies... granted our secondary was pretty awful in the beginning of the year, how much of it was really him?

On the other hand if you really believed in a guy you would try to work him in there even if he isn't a starter? That didn't seem to happen, at least to me?

I don't understand it. He was highly touted coming out of Syracuse and we even moved up the draft to get him. Either he just doesn't have the mental capacity to learn our defense or our scout section needs some new people

He's that bad. don't know why, but he's incapable of learning the defense. He's literally not in the right spot 50% of the time.

Hell, look at his special teams gaffs! Kick catch interference 3 times!

Well he can't get on the field playing Defense and his contributions on special teams are average so he is just a special teams player at this point. A UFA in 2017. Cap hit is 788,288 and dead money if he is cut is 113,288. If they draft a Strong Safety in which I believe they will looks like Thomas will be expendable.

I'm hoping that he can finally put it together. He's got the physical tools, but keeps making mental mistakes.

I think he has already fallen. We saw the potential he has, he was just never able to put it together between the ears to do it on the field. People forget how much your brain plays a role in sports. It's way more important than the physical traits.

It's weird because they threw him in there his rookie year until he got hurt. He hasn't really played defense since then.

He's already fallen, just eating up roster space now.

He is even less of what Anthony Smith was.

I think the last year of his rookie contract will be his last as a Steeler

I have been a shamarko defender since we drafted him. I give up! Haven't seen anything good. Maybe reverse thinking here will get him out of whatever funk he got going on. said thinking cause can't spell Psychology

I think we have all been more patient with him than normal because he has such a good back story, hard not to root for a guy like that.

But as long as he is on the team, still has a shot, Im just not as hopeful anymore.

I feel kind of bad for him. By all accounts he's a good guy, and he's become a parent to his siblings. However, it's just not working out. I don't know why he's not grasping his responsibilities, but he's clearly not doing it, and it's all about results. I'm all for having him back to camp next year, and it would be great if the light comes on. However, next camp needs to be the last shot.

This statement is equal parts true and horrifying at the same time.

Shamarko problem is he's dumb, been here 3 years and still doesn't know what to do on defense. Look at the dumb penalties he gets on special teams.

This is me! Loved the kid coming out of college and was more than hopeful in what he could bring. Reminds me of my feelings for Sweed and I still feel that sting.

I believe we all wanted Shamarko to excel. Unfortunately this has not been the case. He will get a shot in camp but he will have to grasp the Defense or he will be gone which I believe will happen.

Neither. He will not rise because his "above the neck" game is lacking and he cannot fall because he's already laying face down in the dirt.

He's not it. It happens. Lots of needs in the secondary.

I think Shamarko is gone after camp. I think the following is going to happen:

    1. Golden will be brought back.
    2. A S will be drafted.
    3. I think we still sign a UFA to play safety.
    4. Grant will be moved to S.

I do think we carry 5 guys. I think the competition comes down to Mitchell, Golden, Grant, Draft Pick, UFA Signing, and Ventrone (for special team help). That is 6 guys for 5 spots, with the potential to possibly see Shamarko compete with Ventrone for the final special teams spot.

    Yup.

Either you have what it takes instinctually to play safety, or you don't. He doesn't, and he won't suddenly get it, either. He probably would've been better served playing press corner than trying to make it work at safety.

the shark has and had great speed for a safety. that was something you don't come across too often in a SS. unless the brains are there to go with it we found out it doesn't matter. i thought he would do better than he did after the rookie year. he seemed to digress.
