He's entering the final year of his rookie deal, also coming off a knee injury for the second straight season. This one sportswriter was on Twitter and he said they should let another team pay Bell, and the Steelers should spend that money on a CB. I told him they should keep Bell because he's a three down RB, and they could still try to sign a CB in free agency.

I think the only correct answer is wait it out... see how his knee responds next year.

That was a nasty injury he had... His ACL was intact, but I think he had more damage than just an MCL, IIRC?

I definitely disagree with getting rid of Bell at this point. He's had too much potential to not wait and see how things go next year.

If he comes back from the knee injury, we need to find a way to re-sign him. He's more than just a great RB. He's a TE, WR and extra OL when needed. He does EVERYTHING well. He's a better all around player than Adrian Peterson. It'd be a shame seeing him do his thing with another team in his prime. I agree that we need CBs, but a CB cannot have the same kind of impact a player of Bell's quality has.

Yes. FA is a crapshoot, and RB's are cheaper than most positions. He could be paid like a top 3 RB in the league and make just over half the highest paid WR. It's a no brainier to me. I bet we see how he looks in camp and maybe a game or two, then ink him. He doesn't seem like the type of kid to be screwing around over a small amount of money. Offer him a fair deal and he will sign it

Yes. Who can replace him? Willaims did great, but he'll be 33 and we don't know enough about Todman and Toussaint.

Based on most mock drafts I've seen, we'll be in position to draft Ezekiel Elliott from Ohio State. As good as Bell is, this kid is better at just about everything: he runs with power, runs with speed, is a fantastic blocker and is a GREAT receiver out of the backfield. I love Bell, but I'd be inclined to spend the money on signing a free agent CB and draft Zeke.

I say they sign Bell and look to trade up for a CB ..We need that Franchise player on Defense it used to be the OLB or the DL could be that corner stone . This is not the way Defenses need to be built now , it takes a top notch CB to build the rest of the D around . The Steelers don't have anything close to that and will have to make bold moves to get that...

Please stay away from Elliot unless we see him in the second round. Seems like a head case to me. JMHO.

IMO, if Bell's knee reacts to surgery and he looks like he did before the injury, the Rooney's will sign him to a fair contract and keep him. If there is any doubt and the doctors aren't optimistic, they will make the very difficult but right choice for our team and let him go.

If you ask me, Bell's work ethic will get him back up to par, and he will be fine

The notion that Bell is expandable is laughable. He is a once in a blue moon kind of player.

Bell is the best RB in the league, so no, Elliott isn't better at anything. He's nothing but potential, just like TRich was, who was apparently the next big thing. It would be beyond stupid to waste a 1st round pick on a RB when we have the leagues best RB on our roster and it won't break the bank to keep him.

I would lead the mutiny if the Steelers drafted Elliott instead of a DB in the first round! We have the best RB in the NFL today. We have the worst CBs. So why in the world would we draft a RB?

Big difference between Elliot playing against big 10 teams, and Bell who has proven his value against NFL teams, Elliot could be another Mendenhall, looks good in college but not so much when playing against the big boys, we resign Bell, if not, watch the RATS scramble to sign him and watch him shred us twice a year............

We need Bell. We need all the help we can get for Ben. Ben isn't vintage anymore. Bell can take us to #7. Good O line + superior 1+2 Running backs, elite QB and dangerous WR tandem... watch out.

Wishbone formation would be kinda cool with our guys. Bell, Williams, Nix in there. Bell and williams can catch so there is that threat.

Of course he did, but my point was Bell has proven his value in the NFL and Elliot hasnt, not all backs transition to the pro style, the cards drafted a 1st round back from ohio state Beanie Wells, who was a total flop and they ended up cutting him, just like Jones was drafted by Dallas 1 pick in front of mendenhall and both of them ended up being flops, so elliot is no sure thing to make it in the NFL but we have the player in bell we know has the skill to play here for a long time, so stepping up to the first round to get elliot is ridiculous with all the holes we have to fill in this draft...

We need Bell, BUT we need to play him smarter, and not over use him and run him to death. This is what our coaching staff tends to do. I also have heard other commentators say that our passing game got better when Bell left for his injury. I sort of agree a little with this.

We certainly can use him when heathy, however don't over use him because we need to keep him fresh and heathy towards the end of the year and into the playoffs because his body type cannot take the pounding from over use.

Don't hold you breath for that. I was clamoring for the same back field when it was proven early on during Bells suspension that DeAngelo was a legit threat. Many posters told me that would be foolish to take away the touches from LeVeon.

Dropping Bell with hopes to draft Elliot is crazy.. Whatever Elliot does, Bell does it better, except for maybe straight line speed. Bell is premier back in the NFL, Elliot could be a bust. Also, Le'veon has 1 fumble in 35 games. Gotta keep this guy till he can't do it anymore, he's a special talent.
