Maybe Coates wasn't ready to contribute earlier in the season.

No Offense taken. They do have arguably the best in the business going forward as of now. As far as NFL history we will see. Not to shabby is just a term. Coates came alive with very short playing time which he looked like a solid contributor. Bryant needs to have a top shelf work ethic and make the jugs machine his friend. Wheaton has flashes and does contribute. Brown is the best in the business right now. So we shall see and I can't wait!

I notice the "top echelon" of tight ends in the league also has a decent amount of speed. If Heath Miller had Jessie James legs, he would be a real force to contend with. If Jessie James had Miller's catching abilities, wow !
Will be interesting to watch that position next season.

these two will continue to get better i hope. as for wheaton, he made some good plays for us this year. i think the whole receiving corp will improve with another year under their belts. i think our coach mann has a lot to do with them improving and also for DHB improving under him. daniels is also a pretty good TE coach. this was only wheatons 3rd year. AB didn't do a lot until his 3rd year, then he really came on with richard manns coaching.

Yep. And if someone's not ready at a packed position... who are you going to take off the field to let them on?

I don't think Coates made too many errors in the Denver game - it's taken Bryant and Wheaton time to run good routes, so even with a season of playing there's no guarantee Coates would have done better (well, maybe a season... but as before, who's off the field then?).

James had some big plays when asked to - I didn't watch too much of him off the ball, but he seemed a pleasant surprise, especially after the disappointment of Blanchflower the year before. We could still do with drafting another TE, though.

I would of liked to have seen a little more playing time for Coats, Jesse James, for player developing purposes. A lot more playing time for Boykin as he was clearly better than Blake.

Thigpen, I would of taken some snaps from DHB and used Coats a little more, because HE will be your next receiver in line. I probably would of done the same with Jesse in for Spaeth a little more. Again for player developing and also at the same time they would not hurt our team.

Coates and James are eventually going to be big time as long as the can stay healthy. Need more defense and a back up qb now.

I like what I saw from both of them, especially the Outlaw.

I think James proved himself to be a very good blocker as well. I saw him maintain several good blocks this year and was thinking "nice block, Heath" only to realize it wasn't Heath, it was James. People are comparing him to Spaeth but I think his upside is well beyond Spaeth's ability.

So the solution is to have James carry Heath - problem solved!

The reports from teammates at PSU indicated that James had great hands. You throw it at him he catches type of stuff. Being called a freak athlete type of stuff. James was only as late as a pick as he was due to his age and not staying all the years. Had Bill Obrien stayed at PSU, I think we have a top 2 round type of talent player.

What is James speed, is it equal the tight end for the Bengals, KC, Carolina or Gronk.? I don't know and couldn't tell this year
