I was disappointed when Cowher retired. He may not have won every playoff game or made the playoffs every year. However, he made it exciting and made the Steelers relevant nearly every year.

Under Tomlin I think his knock is not having the team ready to beat the teams during the season we should beat. I don't believe he has ever coached the Steelers with certainty into the playoffs. He seems to have backed us into the playoffs every year with a wing and a prayer dependent upon others' last game.

I see other threads questioning Ben's elite status as to whether he may be the reason we haven't won a playoff game in six years. Of course players must make the plays, but coaches must have the players ready to play regardless of opponent. But, if it comes down to one play, one turnover, then coaching isn't doing it's job.

I think it is time for a change in coaching. Nothing against Tomlin personally, but I just don't think he has the proper leadership.

Coach T has done a very good job with this group . We have a very weak secondary probably the weakest in the NFL . My biggest fault with him and KC is not fixing this area sooner ...

We have yet have a losing record with Tomlin. With what he went through this year with suspensions and players lost for the season. He should be praised.

This was probably Tomlin's best coaching job in his 9 years as HC.

While I don't think Tomlin is the coach Cower was, he's doing a good job. I don't see Tomlin going anywhere.

If at the beginning of the season I would have said:

Pouncey would miss the entire the season.

Bell would only play 5 1/2 games.

Beacham would only play 6 games.

    Roethlisberger would miss 5 games.

    Bryant would miss 5 games

All of this with one of the harder schedules in recent memory, that we would still make the playoffs, doubt many would be blaming the coaching.

It hasn't been perfect, but proud of the coaching this year.

I agree 100%. with what they have had to deal with. I mean think about it. at the start of the year if you knew vick and jones would have significant playing time, bell would be gone over half the season along with pouncey. not to mention the mess with the kickers and secondary. who would have bet money we would win 10 games? I have no problems with tomlin. I think he is a top coach and I know that isn't the majority around here

one more thing. I love how coaches get so much better after they retire. cowher had more teams underachieve than just about anyone. I mean there were a couple of years he was on the hot seat. not like he won a ton of titles

Yes, we did win our division in 2014, but was it convincing?... No! The Bengals collapsed and we lost to Baltimore in the playoffs. Had we won our "should have won games" we would have had a first round bye.

While we were 11-5 in 2014 here are 3 games Tomlin looked past and we should have beaten in 2014:
    • Buccaneers
    • Browns (almost beat us the first game)
    • Jets

We are 10-6 for 2015 and here are teams we should have beaten this year:
    • Ravens (lost first time round with the Michael Vick experiment)
    • Bengals
    • Seahawks
    • Ravens (not the same Ravens, but instead we took them for granted)
I understand this is the NFL and any team can step up to play on any given Sunday. But he has a tendency to win the games which are going to be tough, which is a good thing. He then takes lower teams for granted and is out coached.

Sorry, but we win despite Tomlin, I thought he was terrible this year.

I'm basically indifferent to Tomlin. Do I think he's a great "football mind"? No. I do think he might be one of the best motivators in the league though. I also consider him to be stubborn and sometimes verging on arrogant with certain play calls and personnel decisions. I'm neither cold or hot towards him but I will definitely be leaning cold if this defense doesn't get fixed in the offseason. I honestly wouldn't care if every pick in this draft were all on defense. We are set on offense for the near future and could afford a defensive draft. But if we come out and take another undersized linebacker and another late round undersized corner I am gonna really be jumping Tomlin's case.

I never wanted Cowher fired. I thought he was a great coach and was an exciting coach. All players loved playing for him. He made it exciting for the fans. He didn't make the playoffs every year, but always made it feel like we were in the hunt. If we lost a game in the playoffs it was heartbreak. When Tomlin loses a game it is more of a frustrated "what were we thinking!!!"

We won our division last year but,..............not convincingly enough for you. We make the playoffs this year in spite of 3 of our best players injured. Stupid penalties, really bad throws by Ben, crucial drops by all the receivers.................some people can't handle success.

I just don't see how this team has a coaching deficiency with all the injuries and adversity they've faced this year.

I think it's more about the certain situational play calls that were very significant. The over aggression and not sorta "playing the odds" and things like that. Those are the main things that annoyed me the most this year. Well that and the secondary and especially Blake. I have no doubt whatsoever that Boykin is better than him. Just my opinion but that's what I think. I also think a lot of the bad drafts on defense over the years have angered a lot of his critics. I personally think we've drafted pretty well on offense under Tomlin but I absolutely don't think we've drafted well on defense but who can actually say that's definitively "Tomlin's fault"?

Just wish the talk of "Fire Tomlin" would stop! He's not going anywhere any time soon. He'd have to have a couple of awful years of 3-5 wins to get the axe. We are just spoiled as fans. Don't think he's an above average coach, look at what the team went through this year- one of the toughest schedules, and injuries to key players all season. I don't like all his decisions, but who does?

No you don't. If you did understand it... You'd realize how silly the "Tomlin plays down to inferior opponents" argument is.

Ever coach has calls that people disagree with. I remember a time when people hated that Cowher was conservative in his approach. Coaches can't please everyone.

Every one knew that the defense wasn't going to be great this year. Overall, the defense performed better then expected. According to the coaching staff Boykin isn't a CB that can play on the outside. It's probably one reason the Eagles felt they could trade him. The coaches seem to feel that they don't have a better option then Blake or they feel he has some upside and can get better. I remember a time when people picked on Chad Scott but good coaches kept him on the team. The coaches know these players better then any of us.

They drafted some pretty good defensive players over the years. It's difficult to replace a historic defense that was the center piece of SB caliber teams. The Steelers are still in the process of rebuilding the defense. Let's wait to see what happens in the next couple of drafts now that they have some solid defensive pieces in which they can build around.
