Well, That is what I predicted before the season even started due to he tough schedule. When we were 9-5 I thought that they would finish out 11-5 and be headed to the playoffs. Then once again the Steelers lose what should have been a very winnable game. They let a 4th string QB own them and then come up short. Now we have a chance to go 10-6 and with luck make the playoffs. Two weeks ago, many were saying that the Steelers would be a tough out in the playoffs. That was then and this is now. Should they make the playoffs at 10-6, I don't think there is team out there that would fear our defense.

If they make the playoffs at 10-6 then Tomlins job will be safe. My question is if they lose to the Stains and miss the playoffs then is Tomlins job still safe with another missed playoff season and a 9-7 record?

I think the Rooneys should serious consider replacing him if they do not make the playoffs.

    Thoughts?

I don't know why you guys get all worked over this stuff. You know Tomlin isn't going anywhere.

    Tomlin, is safe.

Look at Marvin Lewis. He coached the Bengals when they stunk, got good, then they stunk again, now they have been good again the last 4 seasons.

But have yet to win a playoff game since 1990, and of course have never won one during his tenure as head coach.

He still keeps his job year after year.

You think the Rooney's are going to fire a head coach that went 10-6 or even 9-7? They haven't fired a coach since 1968.
Noll retried, and Bill Cowher did the same. Neither was shown the door or forced to retire.

It will have to be a 4-12 or 5-11 a couple seasons then it would happen maybe.

Perhaps, because I am so frustrated with the inconsistent play from his team over the years. His coaching is atrocious at times and costs this team wins year after year. Maybe the Rooneys need to change the course a bit and look elsewhere for a coach that doesn't F up so much. Tomlin "obviously" screws this team every season to the tune of 2-3 losses which ultimately results in no post season play.

Haley also sucked last game and maybe he should be shown the door as well.

Who in the hell calls an empty back field 5 wide on 1st and goal from the 1 yard line when clearly we were running the ball with success? Thank god the idiot defensive line man had his fat foot across the LOS that nullified a 100 yard INT return.

Under Tomlin this team plays like the Key Stone Cops sometimes.

If the Steelers never want to sniff another SB then they should stick with MT but if they want #7 anytime soon they should probably search elsewhere.

The point is you know he's not going anywhere. Why get yourself all worked up?
Plus there's already a half dozen active threads calling for Tomlin's head.
I personally could do with or without Tomlin. Whatever the Rooney's decide works for me, but I'm not getting myself all worked up for something that has no chance of happening.

Agreed. If Tomlin gets canned it will add some nice drama to the offseason, but I'm not wanting the guy gone.

Anything is possible. We signed Vick.
I don't think you could find anyone here who truly believes he'll be fired this offseason.
A whole lot of people who would like to see it happen, but it's not.
It's not like complaining about it more is going to sway the Rooney's to fire him.

I am the same as SteelerGlenn. I am not going to be ticked if they keep Tomlin and I won't be ticked if they fire him. If I was a betting man I would definitely take the view that Tomlin will be back and same with all the front office and the current staff unless they leave on their own for a different opportunity.

I'm afraid we keep Tomlin. I just hope we get rid of POS Vick forever.

I just watched Tomlin's presser. He reports the Steelers are 0-5 when losing the turnover battle. The Steelers are 9-1 when they tie or win the turnover battle.

Whom is responsible for the turnovers: Ownership, front office, coaches or players?

Obviously Tomlin is responsible when the Steelers lose the turnover battle and the players are responsible when they win the battle

Kind of a head scratching moment coming from the coach that said he didn't care about turnovers and that his only concern is at what point in the game at which they happen.

Tomlin is as safe as he is terrible. This team gets lost more than any other I've seen.

I recall listening to the presser in which he made that statement. However, I'd need to revisit it to understand the context before addressing your point with regard to his context.

Also, the Steelers offense had the ball about 2:55 left in the game. They needed a field goal to tie the game and force OT. A touchdown after what would have been a sure 2 minute drill would have likely sealed the game for them. The offense turned the ball over on downs. Also, the offense committed a turnover (interception) with about 13 minutes left in the game.

Those seem like really bad times to turn it over, given your report on Tomlin's statements.

Agree unfortunately that he is not going anywhere. However I do believe that we will not get no. 7 as long as he is here. Also think that when Ben leaves Tomlin will go shortly after.

BTW, speaking of records- no Steelers team has won 10 games and NOT made the playoffs.

I like Tomlin... Am sick of his status quo quotes, but seems to me he's one of the better coaches in the league although I curse him quite a bit especially as these lower tier teams rack up wins against us.

What I think gets lost is even though the Ravens are a dismal group this year, they are a division foe that knows us inside and out and these games are always hard to call and never a gimme match.

What pisses me off is the fact that we left a chance at 3 on the field our first drive... When going for it on 4th cost us last time as well. Nothing about that call felt right. It was telegraphed. You can make arguements for and against, but failing on that play definitely gave them some momentum and stirred up their crowd. 3 measley points could've been huge early in the matchup.

It's like they don't learn from anything and I put that squarely on Tomlin. He put his team in a bad place from the onset. He didn't throw the picks or give up pass after pass, but he put them in position to do so. Maybe we still lose even if they settle for 3 and get it on that first drive, but maybe not.

He just seems Jekyll and Hyde with his decisions, and ultimately that's the sort of team he fields and unfortunately, it's seemingly consistent here the last few seasons.

Hard call to make as we don't know what his players think of him or how much free reign he gives the staff and we won't know if we in fact ever know, for a long time.

In short, I won't be broken hearted should he stay or should he go. I know he'll be here next season and I figure we'll waste another one of our high tiered QB's latter years, but then again Ben has something to say about his all too often "I should've been better" type of games.

I'm sure they'll come out like a ball of fire Sunday... And it will be all for not. Regardless of what Buffalo does, if we look as ill prepared as last week I'll jump in the growing line of wanting another head coach knowing full well it won't happen and knowing full well if it did, That another dismal season will rear its ugly head with Ben vs so and so and never ending 3rd and longs being converted on the backside of our D.

That said, GO STEELERS... I STILL BELIEVE!

Unfortunately brother Jim, this team seems to revel in their ability to make every possible first a seemingly absolute. Hope the stat remains after Sunday.

This is a play call that has been argued to death (and dug up, argued and beaten again...) here since Sunday. I was against it for the very reason that it's so early in the game, you NEVER take points off the board. Sure 42 yards is not a gimmee, but Boswell has been money from farther than that. Anyway... I've seen folks post here that it didn't mean anything. But consider this - the momentum shift was so huge that the Ravens took over on downs and marched down for a TD like our D wasn't even there - and I mean not even close.

Yessir I agree. That's what boggles my mind. We did it the first time around and now you have a kicker playing very well and you do the same damn thing?!?! Maddening
