I think he is but Sherman definitely got the best of him on Sunday. But Sherman gets the best of most receivers he goes against. Would LOVE to have that guy in the Black & Gold. Not only is he a big and physical guy, he's also extremely smart which only enhances his talent.

Well, depending on who you ask around here - either Sherman was mugging AB all day and that's why he did so poorly, or Sherman schooled AB and that's why.

In either case, this is what you get when you pit the best WR against the best CB - one of them is going to win, and this time it was Sherman. My suspicions are that if Seattle were a divisional foe, AB would be studying film and wouldn't let Sherman do this to him again.

Sherman reminds me of Mel Blount. Blount used to mug receivers all the way up the field and he, more than anybody, is responsible for the 5 yard rule today. Sherman's a big, physical guy with an extremely high football IQ so he knows how to mug and get away with it.

I think if they don't knock Miller out of the game you would have seen some different results from Brown as the game progressed. Sooner or later they would have left Brown alone in order to stop the over the middle stuff to Wheaton and Miller, also would have opened up lanes for Williams as well.

Well the best corner in the league held him in check... but lets not forget they also double covered him. AND Sherman was all over him and the officials allowed it. You can't stop that if the illegal contact isn't enforced. Can't hold a WR. Can't impede a WR's attempt to run a route or catch a ball after 5 yards. Sherman was allowed to mug him all game.

So Seattle did everything they could to take him out of the game. They were daring us to use our other WR's and really why wouldnt they? We haven't really done that with success minus Bryant's ONE good game.

We did try to take their "dare" and used Miller with great success till he got hurt. Bryant dropped 3 balls - all of which probably could have changed the out come of the game if he caught one of them...and we are talking about perfectly thrown passes that hit him in the hands/chest. Bryant also ran the wrong routes which also hurt us. Finally Ben gave up on Bryant and went with Wheaton. Wheaton tore them up but it was all for not because of stupid coaching decisions, horrible play from Bryant and our secondary. Bryant should get benched if he has another game like that.

Just shows that even the best WR's can be taken out if a good defense focuses on doing just that. Other teams don't sell out like Seattle did to stop Brown. Really IMO Seattle's game plan wasn't working - dropped balls, bad coaching decisions and pass coverage mistakes did us in. Ben had over 450 yards passing.

Hard to imagine you could go from best to not best in one game against good competition. Who do you consider the best WR in the league?

Every time Bryant drops a ball the immediate thought that pops into my head is "so that's why he was a fourth round pick". Still an extreme bargain in the fourth with his big play ability.

The stats right now have Jones from Atlanta 9 or 10 more catches and 50 more yards in front of Brown. Last year at the end of the season Brown was slightly ahead but Jones was right behind him. It's difficult to pick the best receiver because so many variables come into play. If Brown isn't the best, I don't know who would be ahead of him.

And I believe Matt Ryan has played every single snap this year if I'm not mistaken. AB's played several games with backup quarterbacks.

I think he's definitely in the conversation for the best wide receiver in football right now. He didn't have his typical game, but you have to mitt he was getting mugged by Sherman most of the game. And on top of that Sherman is considered one of the best CB's if not the best in the league.

Look at the numbers that brown has put up this year. And then consider that he had Mike Vick throwing to him in a few games.

Bryant was drafted in the 4th round. AB was drafted in the 6th.

Something's wrong with this kid's head right now - said it a few weeks back after he came back from suspension. That's 5 dropped passes in 2 games - I'd be afraid to throw to him if I were Ben, too.

You could tell they were keying on Antonio big time. Why the heck do you think Miller and Wheaton were having a big day.
The middle of the field was so open.

    Safety help much?

So the best receiver occupied the best corner, allowing Wheaton and Heath to blow them up. In this case "best receiver" does not necessarily mean he caught the most passes, but he significantly occupied the defense to allow big plays to happen. That doesn't happen if he is not the best.

So, I was unfortunately only able to watch the game off and on, but I'm wondering if Sherman was able to stay tight on AB most of the game because he had Thomas helping over the top. Thomas is probably the best safety in the league at taking away a deep half of the field. I did see Sherman's interception, and I felt that it was absolutely illegal contact. It was exactly the type of downfield mugging that the NFL was trying to prevent. If he was getting away with that crap all game, shame on the officials.

Maybe that's why Sherman wears that thing over his mouth. To hide his smile from getting away with so much?!
