I think youre dead on here- Steelers outsmarting themselves again.

Reminds me of the 2008 draft when the OL was a complete mess (Sean Mahan started in 2007 smh) and the decision was made to "protect Ben with weapons."

Ben was sacked 46 times in 2008 and 50 times in 2009...

Steelers are 30th in pass defense despite having 30 sacks already. At least the front 7 is there to build on.

People you all understand that Seattle has been in the last 2 Superbowls
and should be 2-0 in those Superbowls if it wasn't for a boneheaded call
at the goal line by their head coach to pass for it. Yes they have lost a lot
in FA but still have great talent. On to Indy. Steelers need to learn how to tackle again.

You keep ignoring the secondary and it's going to kill you. It's the reason I said before the season started they'd miss the playoffs. They gave money to a worthless Allen, moved up for Shamarko, over paid Mitchell, and have a bunch of castoffs like Blake and Cockrell starting. Meanwhile they threw away a pick so we could let Boykin rot and there's a midget waiting in the wings. They need to fix this in the offseason or it'll be more of the same next year. There's loads of talent on Offense and the front 7 looks solid (much as I'd like to add a dominant NT).

Coach T knows exactly what I know...Our Secondary sucks ...He has to go for 2 ,he has to go for it on 4th. down,he has to use trick plays....When your Secondary is as bad as the one we've got the Coach has to try and find more points any way he can.....I actually think we should start on side kicking it every time , at least then we could get the ball back quicker and save Blake from having to run so far.........

All good points... however ... the call to not go for it on 4th and goal at the end defies any and all logic. There is nothing that anyone can say that will make that a sensible call. 3 points gets you zilch, and at the worst you wind up with nothing and have them backed up on their own 2. Instead, you take the worthless 3 and give them an extra 18 yards to the 20 to operate with knowing that a 1st down ends the game? Not buying it.

Running trick plays in the redzone on 4th down is what really bad teams do. You run them when you struggle to score or you see something that tells you the opponent will fall for this. Tomlin seems to just pull trick plays out of a hat at times when it makes no sense to even do it. It's laughable that play was so bad. At what point do the players or other coaches say... "uh if we put the QB in on the FG attempt they'll be ready for the fake?....so probably not a play you want to run because NO ONE could possibly be tricked!!" ...except maybe Tomlin him self. Tomlin must be a ego maniac because his coaches clearly are afraid to tell him" NOT A GOOD IDEA!" Not to mention what kind of an ego does he have to think he can out coach everyone in the NFL with his creative clock management, 2 point conversions, and trickery. There is a reason other GOOD coaches don't do these things...but Tomlin thinks it's the way to win football games. BTW that 2point conversion we ran to take a 4 point lead was also stupid. Yea we converted thankfully but if we didn't it would have been another disaster and the risk /reward was not worth it at that point of the game. He was saved by his players. That's not what a coach should be asking or hoping for.

One of the biggest gripes I have of the Tomlin/Colbert FO is their inefficiency at addressing areas of need. Back in 2007 when the OL was a mess it took several high-round picks AND bringing in a new OC and OL coach to fully right the ship. But this approach will inevitably put other areas in jeopardy as players age or are lost to FA.

To their credit they invested some high-value picks on the likes of Heyward, Tuitt, JJ, Dupree, and Shazier (assuming that JJ continues to come along and Shazier can stay healthy enough to have a productive NFL career), but with a number of mid-rounders used on WR's (and the 2R on Bell) the secondary has largely been ignored outside of guys like Hawthrone and Shamarko - one of whom barely saw the end of TC, and the other appears to be a ST body that cost us two picks.

Over/wasteful spending will deplete your balance and depth, and that, imo, has led to the situation we now have in the secondary. We started four first-rounders at LB yesterday. Coming into the season 3/5's of the starting O-line (and another R2 guy on the bench) and 2/3's of the D-line were first- and second- round picks. That's a lot of draft spend.

So I get especially aggravated when I see the FO freely tossing around draft picks - acquiring Scobee and Boykin, moving up for Shamrko, spending a 3rd on Archer. Heck, even bypassing the 3rd when Pats tried to sign Sanders only to let him walk the next year. I just think if they want to be a consistent contender again they need to maximize their returns through the draft and even out the distribution of that talent.

I agree. On top of that, this team has not won a simple playoff game since the year 2010 !

I think were getting a sample of how it feels to be a Browns fan, and it don't feel good.

Give up 5 TD passes to Russell Wilson!? Oh, the horror!!

It's not like wilson is Johnny Manzell or Tebow or somebody. The guy has been a cool-as-ice-water QB. He's been to 2SBs and won one. Sure he's great Defenses to help him and a good RB, but all he does is win. Does that remind you of anyone? His style is different. But once Ben got a little experience, and his D got worse, his offensive numbers got better. The same is happening with Wilson.

The game is changing. College don't produce drop back passers, they all use mobile atheletic guys at QB. The NFL is figuring how to adapt to the change in supply. Russell Wilson might be remembered as the first great multi-dimensional QB. Of course, he might not. But I ain't selling the guy short.
