Don't mean to put up a misery post. If the D would have grown this yr...maybe. Expectations have dropped dramatically.

Did better than last yr. But as of this game as far as deep run in the playoffs, smh...

This is not a championship D, or O (not with the turnovers).

Manziel went 33-45 for 372yds on us. Even while getting his ass kicked by the pass rush, our secondary still gave up plays all day. They had some unlucky **** happen near the goal line, otherwise they would have had more points to show for it. If the pass rush isn't there, you can count on someone being wide open against us.

Too many draft busts in the front 7 and not seriously bolstering a bad secondary will do that.

The emasculation of the Steelers defense was complete years ago.

Rule changes and fines/penalties caused them to go super passive and play it safe. Their own unwillingness to add talent to an already woefully declining secondary just further compounded it.

This defense has sucked for years now, and I don't see it getting better soon. Sure, we'll have our moments (when we catch offenses on bad days), but the secondary needs to be blown up and completely rebuilt. And our philosophy on D needs to change to adapt to modern times.

after what I saw today I hope someone decides to offer our "defensive guru" keith butler a nice job after this year. I hope he leaves and takes some of the secondary players with him! what a pile of manure today

Seattle lost their DC last yr, but still basically managed to shut down the #1 WR in the league. However, Ben was was under-throwing on almost all of his deep passes (except the TD pass to Wheaton). Must be the Seattle sea-level air !

Blame Tomlin for it. He lost that game. 10 point swing on the fake fg. game over.

Then with 3 minutes left he kicks a FG? WTF not go for the lead? If you are going to use the logic of "lets let the defense win it... doesn't it make more sense to try for the TD on the 5? IF we don't make it... we still need the defense to hold them. THus giving us another chance to win it. If we do score a TD we have a 1 point lead I think... and the defense has to hold them. What is with this coaching logic? Attempt a fake in the first quarter of a 3-0 game. Then kick a FG when down by 6 with 3 minutes left. What does he have to do to get fired?

you throw for 450+ yards you did ok. they shut down ab but they found the other guys. if that was tom brady at qb he would have had 7-8 tds against those bums in the secondary (in my humble opinion)

I know right. Tomlin's game mgmt skills are from another planet. Thats really bothersome.
Once again. 5 TD's to Russell Wilson ?? Come on !!!
The defense is "stuck on stupid" (not improving) and the offense isn't "clutch" as it should be.
I hope I'm wrong, but I've been watching this team for MANY yrs now and I don't see any greatness for this year. But I def. hope I'm wrong...smh

One that played like complete garbage.

These are the types of games that upset me. We go on the road against a mediocre football team and dominate their "strength" (their defense), but then let their weakness (offense) go off on us and we lose.

Seattle is the type of team that you have to beat if you want to make the playoffs. They are an okay team, but a team that the better teams in the league are going to beat. We didn't get the job done and now are going to have to play really good football to finish the year if we want to make the playoffs. 4-1 or else we are going to miss.

For years I've listened to our coaches say that if we strengthen the pass rush, the secondary will get better.... and for years I've bristled against that philosophy...
The coaches have been far too willing to accept the futility of the secondary and make extra effort to cover up that glaring weakness rather than actually making the secondary stronger..
I do believe that the light is on now and it showed in the draft when we took senquez, but his injury meant going into the season with the status quo intact....
I fully expect to see more high rd. Picks in the secondary when the draft comes around, but for now, we just have to keep our fingers crossed

Tomlin's defenses seem to have a knack for making QBs look like Joe freaking Montana. It's getting really old.

Our weakness on defense has officially been exposed. Blake was horrible and safeties are no help

And I totally agree. I'm 40 or damn near and I can't say we've ever gone into games and shut down up the middle seam passes and on 3rd down.... Consistently. We consistently play off the opponent 10 yards... Etc... It's maddening to say the least

He said too many draft busts on the front seven. Only six of the seven were drafted. Who are these MANY busts?

Landry threw a bad pass on the fake FG, that could've been a TD with a better pass.
