I hate to start a thread like this but with all the ire directed at Dri I've really got to say that I wouldn't mind cutting Dri and picking up Jones. I'm not sure about the financial aspect of it but I think it's no secret around here what Jones has shown on ST. Is he still the threat he once was? He has gotta be better than Dri right? Would you take him in place of Dri?

I'd take him over Dri because anybody would be better then him. But Jones got cut because he lost a step and I don't know how I feel about signing a former enemy.

I read an article that said he had negative punt yards. My buddy is a big Chargers fan and he is always talking about how horrible they are on ST. So I don't know if this is more indicative of Jones or SD.

It really dosent get much worse then Dri on kickoff returns. Anybody would be better. Right now Dri looks like he is playing scared and that is the worst thing for a kickoff returner.

It's the Chokers, of course. J/K Jacoby was making really dumb decisions. On the other hand, the Chokers don't want him, so he's obviously a future HOFer.

LOL! It's not exactly like Dri is a football genius himself.

In order for Dri to gain confidence in his kickoff return ability and get better vision and use his speed effectively just once, they are going to have to try some tricks. Have someone else be the main back with Archer way on the opposite side from where the kick is. That returner would then run out and throw it backwards to archer who can burn it straight forward. They can try that Rossum kickoff they tried a few years ago where he basically takes the kickoff runs up into the guys back and then acts like he still has the ball and when they follow him then Archer can take off.

Maybe Dri is scared because the blocking in front of him is so bad. The blocking for kickoffs and punts just looks atrocious. Do they practice this ?

No, I wouldn't drop Dri for a different kick returner. He has too much speed to throw away the possibility of improvement on some other guy who may only be marginally better. I would consider cutting Dri for another football player, but not for a specialist.

As further evidence, the Ravens just signed Joe Morgan to replace Steve Smith on the roster, and bypassed Jones.

Maybe they practice it against stationery tackling dummies. It is some pretty bad blocking.

I've watched Jacobi jones stomp a pink Terrible Towel after we beat the rats in 2014, a fan accidentally dropped it out of the stands as their team headed into the tunnel

No way should he be in Pittsburgh

Because people have decided Archer is awful, and so overlook the difficulties all returners have.

Which is not to say Archer is great, of course. More that kick returning is a different game these days.

Of course, there's a question over whether a different kind of returner is needed - not someone who needs to get a head up of speed, because there's no blocking and the field is too short from the kick off.

The Steelers. More kickoffs means more attempts, more attempts means more yards unless we are talking averages in which case my name is Mike Tomlin and I'm good at clock management

    • :herewego!:
    • Wait! We're missing something here. The goal should be less kick-offs! More kick-off opportunities mean the other team is scoring! Screw that! I say there should only be one a game1 Either the beginning or the second half!

      Defense!

I think we can use Archer if they provide him with an invisible dog fence to keep him inside the end zone during kickoffs. A guaranteed 20 yards for Ben and the offense to start a drive. If were going to keep him around give him a purpose, maybe waterboy, security something where he doesn't touch a ball. Yes to Jones anybody that can fundamentally catch and run.
