Ziggy Hood released by Jags injured.... providing he is healthy ,any chance we kick the tires ? Better than Cant Thomas and might actually be a better fit in Butlers scheme where our DL seems to have a little more free reign. What say you Nation?

He might actually be a better fit in Butlers scheme and he's definitely better than Cam Thomas in run defense.

Problem is the numbers they have tied up in useless kickers and the space to bring him in even though he'd be pro-rated and not guaranteed.

He has a foot injury first and foremost, he was on IR. I was never much for him. So my answer is No...

He was on IR, but they had to cut him because he was healthy, if we can get him cheap I say yes... he is better than Cam for sure.

If he's healthy then sign him to the veterans minimum contract, they could use some depth on the D-line.

Someone on the old message board had a "Ziggy gets owned on every play" signature. Kinda sums it up. Throw in the foot injury and I see the Steelers taking a pass.

Can't be worse than Cam Thomas and we are dangerously thin at DE if Tuitt misses any time.

I love Ziggy. Not really because he can play really good- but because his name is Ziggy.
With the decisions Tomlin tends to make, it wouldn't surprise me if I find out that we got him back.

Problem was he was expected to just take up blockers. If they let him go like Tuitt and Heyward is, he my actually surprise some folks!

I would cut Vick to make room for him. He could also play back-up QB...there would be no drop-off from Vick!

That was this board, and all it sums up is the ignorance of some fans. Having a healthy Ziggy on the team would be huge for us right now - we have no #3 DE.

However, the injury is a question mark, and the money is an even bigger one. If we could sign him cheap I'd take him. Good hustle, good locker room guy, and he'd be a huge upgrade as #3 DE and second string interior pass rusher.

Lol - I'm glad someone else bases their player ratings on their name. It's the same reason I wanted/want Stingily to do well.

Well, I think a healthy Ziggy may be a better player than Cam T. However, Cam T offers positional flexibility - he gets his butt kicked at both DE and NG.... Seriously though, there have been plays this season where Cam T has surprised me in a positive way. Kind of like "hey wait, is that number 93 in the backfield instead of looking like he's going backwards on a sled 7 yards downfield?" So, I'm not sure the thought of grabbing Ziggy a few years removed from his "OK" career here is all that exciting to me.

That depends. How does his foot injury affect his ability to jump onto 50" high boxes?

This is his career highlight ...

Seen Ziggy work out recently. He is even bigger then when he was Steeler. Still a work out warrior, and he says he still has close contact with Harrison and a few others. For the right price he would be much better then Cam, it's not even close.

Bring him in for a workout but the question is what would he sign for and how much would it cost to cut Cam Thomas? In addition Ziggy would need to learn the new defense which I would guess would take some time to get up to speed. I can see both the pros and cons to adding Ziggy.

Look, I know this won't be popular, but if you can get him cheap, you don't cut Thomas, you cut Walton and put him on the PS. Hood would clearly be the #3 DE and Thomas, despite his flexibility, wouldn't even get a helmet unless someone was out hurt...like Tuitt might be this week. He adds depth and he has a very fast learning curve because he know so many guys here and his defensive assignments for the most part. If he comes cheap, this is a no-brainer.

I think Ziggy would be a solid option if Cam went down with injury, but I don't think we would bring him in (or anyone) until that happens. I'd welcome him back, for sure.
