Back to Carolina for Derek Anderson.....

I caught a bunch of flak on this board for wanting DeAngelo to get more carries and even someone stated that I wanted him to get half the carries to which I don't recall ever saying. I just want him to be used in order to give different looks for this offense. Just like I predicted though, Haley and Tomlin decided to give him a whole bunch of pine time. I think he had 2 carries, one of which was called back on a Beachum hold. So he ended up with a whopping game stat of 1 carry for 2 yards. Yippie, for someone who filled in wonderfully during Bells idiotic 2 game suspension.

Ok, I know, Carolina cut him, but really Jonathan Stewart isn't lighting up the league either and perhaps, they would probably welcome him back with open arms since he was good for them both on and off the field.

I say if you ain't gonna use him then you might want to offer him up to some teams.

He's Bell insurance. Why trade him for a scrub?

By bringing in Blount I think they proved they want to have a good one two punch. Now they do. I say there's no way they trade Williams and I would actually be strongly against that. Wheaton on the other hand??? I could maybe get behind just because I'm not sure he's gonna be able to establish any chemistry with Ben. Nothing personal against him. I actually like him but put him in that category with Sanders where he's just expendable given the talent we have.

    :roflmao: Oh, you were serious.

Ahem, no, Williams knew what he was getting into. He's Bells backup and he filled in brilliantly, why would they give they up. I feel much better with him here.

With all respect he was brought here to supply a starting spot for 2 games, and as contract stated, insurance. He will get his touches. It was Bell's first game back so he got ALL the workload. And might continue to. With Ben's unfortunate injury i'm sure we will see more of Williams.
Bell is a franchise back and one if not the best running back in the NFL. Do you remember last season? When he got injured?

What possible incentive would they have to trade Williams....other than to please you? You think it would be wise to rely on Archer and Todman in the event that Bell goes down.....or decides to toke up again. Crazy talk.

What no we are about to go back to the Cowher era and run the ball 40 times a game. We need two backs now and by the time Derek Anderson was fully up to speed Ben would be back. Seriously though we are about to be a grinding clock eating offense and we have the two backs to do it. If Vick throws the ball more than 20 times we lose.

Honestly, it was actually tongue in cheek speak cause I'm still wondering why the offense doesn't utilize all of the weapons that they have.

That and most everyone here seems to hate Vick so they might as get something more than a box of kicking tees for him in return.

I agree. The less of Vick the better. I say now is the time for Bell to step up and put the team on his back the way the Bus used to do. Be that guy that we can turn around and hand it to and get a W. I know our WR's need to be involved and I'm sure they will be but I think the gameplan should revolve around Bell, Williams, and AB. Also a heavy dose of Heath in the blocking game.

No way is that a smart trade... The only scenario involving Williams, is get him some more snaps. If for nothing else to save some wear and tear on bell... 70-30, even 80-20 would be grand.

I am not sure since Bell is young, but it makes a lot of sense to actively rotate Bell and Williams so they are both fresh, especially later in the game, and can play at maximum capacity. While Bell is better obviously in almost all situations, I think a fresh Bell/fresh Williams rotation (70/30ish like someone said above) is better than a tired Bell and a not-used Williams.

While I can see a small benefit, d Williams stock is very high right now.... And might command a decent trade value..... I wouldn't do it just based on the fact that he's a capable 1B starter. "If" something were to happen to bell..... Around playoff time.... Do we really want to be talking about josh Harris or the current meat on the market??? I'd keep deangelo.

The entire point of my original post is that they need to use 2 good RB's. Especially one that is currently on a roll actually playing in combination with the one that was suspended for rolling in the off season.

    D. Will shouldn't have seen less than 7 carries in that game.

I would offer Wheaton to the Panthers for Joe Webb. I think he would be a lot better option as a #2 than Jones . The Panthers need some WR help they may even throw in a late round draft pick ...

Our offense is built to pass, which means they need to use the RB that fits the scheme best, which is Bell. No way does DeAngelo have a 7-70 performance in the passing game like Bell did.

Those 7 carries that you wanted DeAngelo to get means that Bell gets 7 less carries. I don't think that's a good idea unless Bell is injured or needs a breather.

You want equal carries and that just isn't realistic.

I really liked Williams' productivity and he seems to fit our schemes well, so I don't agree with trading him. We are just far to injury prone across the board for me to be comfortable with letting a solid backup go. Now Wheaton I could see taking a hike. The chemistry just isn't there.

Take what is arguably the best all around RB in the league off the field for someone that isn't even close. #brilliant

But not for a QB, unless you're talking Osweiler or some other dude with screaming potential. And who knows, maybe Vick shows the most chemistry with Wheaton and he lights up the next few weeks. While trading Wheaton may be tempting, I'd hold on to him unless a dire need arises. He's still on his rookie contract and has some talent. Can't give up on a guy like that.
