I smoked it once as a youngun. Walked into an ambush and lucky a buddy knocked my butt down. Never had a desire to smoke it after that

Plax only shot himself once. By that comparison, he would have to have shot himself four times. Alcohol also is addictive and that's why there's such a thing as being an alcoholic. Their body literally craves it and it is more than just mental. I've never smoked pot and I can't say one way or the other what it would do to me. I can say that I've used moonshine when I have a bad cold and I can not understand how ANYone could actually ENJOY drinking that or any other kind of alcohol to the point that they literally become addicted to it. My father in law is a full blown alcoholic though and would probably literally die if he tried to stop drinking beer. I've heard a lot of people say pot is addictive and vice versa. It usually seems the case is that the people who smoke it say it isn't and the people who don't say it is. That's my experience anyway.

That teen thing is easy to explain. There is no dumber species than the teenage boy. LOL. I never have smoked pot at all and have pretty much only medicinally drank alcohol but I did PLENTY of reckless stuff as a teenage boy and just managed to survive. I'm sure many can say the same about their teen years. I really hope that Martavis is just immature because if this is who he is as a man it's really sad.

I don't smoke pot. I don't believe it's addictive by itself. (The only troublesome thing for me is how younger teens seem at higher risk.) I DO believe people can become psychologically addicted. But that isn't the same thing as a physical addiction.

I do believe alcohol is very addictive in susceptible people (not everyone). As is tobacco, cocain, opiates, etc.

    Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

Is it possible to make your body crave what is in pot like it does caffeine or alcohol? I don't even know what pot consists of on a chemical level. I think with tobacco it is more the nicotine than the tobacco though right? I had a buddy who was so hooked on caffeine that when he tried to quit drinking mountain dews that he literally ran a horrible fever and had hallucinations! He had to take time off work to try and get better. It was the craziest thing I ever saw but it really did happen.

There are other substances in tobacco than nicotine that we're just learning are also addictive. It's why nicotine replacement products are only 20% or less effective - and that's a very generous estimate. Some estimates have it at less than 10% effective. (That, and long term smokers also have a HUGE psychological dependence)

I can't speak to cravings for marijuana. Most of what I've read seems to indicate that there's not much, if any, physical dependency.

But addiction isn't an easy black or white problem. Far too many factors go into it to make blanket statements most of the time.

Good pull. I just googled him, apparently he's given up pot "for good"...again. He certainly struggled with some mental issues during his career. Hopefully that's not the case with Bryant (for his own sake).

Yeah my wife "quit smoking" but still does those stupid vapor things. It's basically robbing Peter to pay Paul because she's still getting nicotine. She gets it in like these little bottles. I'm like "why don't you just drink it?" LOL.

Those "stupid vapor things" are probably saving her life. (Full disclosure: I use one. ;))

Yes, she's still using nicotine, but in a far smaller amount. Regardless of nic strength, your body just isn't absorbing as much due to the nature of what's carrying the nicotine (smoke versus much lower temperature vapor. The vapor's particle size restricts how much nicotine you actually absorb). But she's missing all of the other cancer causing chemicals (over 1000) found in cigarettes as well as the other addictive alkaloids found in cigarette smoke.

We won't know how "safe" vapor is for many years. There's just not enough long term studies to draw a conclusion. But for the time being, it appears to be at least significantly safer than smoking. A recent scientific study in Great Britain declared them to be 96% safer than cigarettes and 3 times more effective to stopping smoking than other nicotine replacement strategies. (Makes sense there: they still get that hand to mouth psychological behavior at the very least)

Vapors also tend to vape less over time than they ever smoked. And she can step down her nicotine to zero eventually. I rarely use nicotine anymore. It's more of a mindless behavioral thing now.

On a personal note: since switching to vaping 3 years ago, my lung capacity has increased almost 30%. :) (Tested)

Not to sidetrack the thread. Back on topic. ;)

Anything people do repetitively Is addiction. Things like putting on your socks and underwear and going to work get a pass. Just like cigs, beer, and the rest that get acknowledged as addictive, Mary Jane is right there. Stats aside, if what you like to do comes back to bite you in the ass once, twice, 3 times etc... And you can't figure out the equation, then you're addicted end of story. Problem is these dummy's are trying to play politics on who's doing what and where it's legal. Still gotta pass a piss test in Colorado across the board. Deal with it and earn your money policy is what it is until it becomes state/ fed mandated policy

Vegas seemed to win that bet for a fair number of years, before the economy crashed...;)

Sorry, I just had to bust yer balls a little bit there,

Overall, I do agree with your premise.

People with "addictive personalities" (what a 2010, America, kinda term), willl take ANYTHING to the extreme..

I know, because I have that type of personality...

If I drink a glass of iced tea, I will want ANOTHER one, as soon as I am finished with the first...

`Cause the first one tasted so damn good, I want another...

The phrase "everything in moderation", is lost on me...

I`m more like the guy who Mick Jagger was talking about when he said "too much, is never enough"...

Or maybe it was Steven Tyler, anyhow, The point remains the same..

Some people just crave more of what makes them feel good, even though they know it`s bad for them..

Damn, that Big Mac tasted good, I think I`ll have another, and another, no matter how fat it`s making me!!!

I believe in self-discipline, and will power, and all those good, old-fashioned values, that were taught to me, growing up...

I just have a hard time practicing them, now...

No matter how much I know Self-denial is an admirable trait, and a great survival skill, I just don`t seem to have the will power to practice it anymore...

    I rationalize...

Aww hell, That jogger, could get hit by a bus, while he`s out running...

"I`d rather be fat and happy, than thin and miserable"...

Until being fat, leads to me being unhappy, and smoking those cigarettes(along with being fat), makes it hard to get up the steps, or shoveling the snow outta my driveway, or doing any real physical labor at all, `cause now I have COPD...

That`s a REAL physical condition, led to, from the "lifestyle" I chose...

And I STILL smoke these friekin coffin nails...

Is what it is... Ain`t bitchin, because I made these choices..

Just hope some of you younginz readin` this mite be smarter... about yer choices.

Ray, Congrats on your swithchin to the vapes with little to no nicotine in `em...

I tried `em... Upgraded to expensive battery packs/ better tanks, etc...

Still just not the same as the feel of a burning plant, into my lungs, for me...

They help me smoke LESS... but, at times, I still have to have the real thing.

    GO STEELERS!!!

    Edit...

And this just seems like the perfect place to add this, for a laugh!...

Hope the link works... It`s funny!

I have a feeling DHB and Ben are developing some significant chemistry regardless of what happens with Bryant.

Yeah I burned for 22 years and put it down a month ago with no problems at all. I don't really even miss it. Now there is an Everclear concert coming up so I will probably pick up then but have no doubt I can just put it right back down.

When I quit drinking soda 7 years ago: my body could barely handle it with all the headaches and feelings of depression. You can say I was addicted.

When I quit smoking cigs 3 years ago: I had to use a vaporizer and build a plan to cut down on nicotine over time. I am currently down to 6mg after starting on 24mg (working great by the way). You can say I was/am addicted.

When I quit drinking 10 cups of coffee a day 10 years ago: My body was so tired all the time and I was super cranky and mean. I currently drink 1 cup a day cause I couldn't kick the habit completely. You can say I was/am addicted.

When I quit using mj (chronically) 11 years ago (due to job and social concerns): I was bummed out but it was actually quite easy on my body and I didn't miss it as much as I thought. You can say I was NOT addicted.

Would I ever be a chronic user again? Probably not. But I do believe it should be legal. I mean, everything on this list was actually worse on my body than mj but all perfectly legal.

So what this tells me is that Bryant isn't physically addicted. He's just a young idiot who thinks he's untouchable like he's been told his entire life. Put some good people around him to life coach him up and he'll be fine. Or he can continue to be an idiot and play the loser's game.

My taste in music is all over the place just no disco, no techno, and just a little bit of country. I was a teenager in the 90s and the music of the 90s was all over the place. I tend to stick with rock, alternative, and metal though.
