    Just saw this on Rotoworld....

Brandon Boykin is supposedly 4th behind the outside starters William Gay and Antwon Blake with Cortez Allen in the slot.

This can be good news and bad I guess. C. Allen has gotten his head together (good) or Boykin is not as good as thought (bad). Or its neither and they are just trying different combinations.

Boykin has been great in the slot according to most reports, so I hope he does well for us this year. We definitely need help at the position. I thought he did pretty good the early preseason games, but must admit, I was focusing more on the line play for the later preseason games. Did anyone notice if his play was off?

the depth chart on steelers.com lists him as Cortez Allen's backup as the RCB. Now, I don't know when steelers.com last updated their depth chart. Methinks that the teams have to submit a depth chart each week (anyone know?). If the depth chart on steelers.com is correct, than the Rotoworld info would be wrong. It also doesn't list who is in the slot. Sometimes, the depth chart lists one player as the starter and the backup actually takes more snaps. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

He could still be learning the scheme. Give it time.

    Blake isn't starting material IMO.

Teams go 3 and 4 wide so much that the 3rd and 4th string CB's are playing half the time anyway.

Totally agree he played the whole first half against the Panthers and got abused by their scrubs.

Must not know the coverage calls yet? That's all I can think of. He's definitely better than everyone on the roster and at least as good as Gay was for the team last year. I know Allen gets his shot, but he's way better than Allen was last year and Blake is overall.

    Something stinks here!

I just checked the dept chart and he is 2nd behind Cortez. This could end up being a great thing. Perhaps Cortez has improved his game

This is exactly what I was thinking. To me if Allen has returned to form he could be the best corner we have.

Cortez is back where he belongs. He is a slot CB and that's a great thing to get him back inside. In an ideal world neither Gay nor Blake should be playing outside. Neither of the 2 are good enough . I guess Boykin is a slot only CB as well..

We have a Team full of slot only guys ....

Is Cortez going to see some time against Gronkowski? Didn't he do a nice job against him a couple of years ago?

tez did a pretty nice job against everybody a couple of years ago, that's why he got a new contract i thought, then he digressed last year. we need someone besides will allen and mitchell covering gronk. i'd at least like shazier helping if allen or mitchell are going to cover him. maybe shazier and tez would be better.

Boykin is going to have a good year and hopefully he has another 6 pick season, he was a bargain for a 5 pick, he's young and has a lot of playing time left since this is just his 4th season, he's the only dependable DB in the secondary in my opinion...

The starting slot corner is in the final year of his contract and will make $1.54 million this season. Boykin was the Eagles' best cornerback in 2014 and rated No. 21 overall by Pro Football Focus.

Much has been made the past two seasons about Boykin's desire for a bigger role outside of slot coverage. The 25-year-old would likely have left in free agency after the season.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles have fielded offers for Boykin for months before the Steelers stepped up with an offer. Trading Boykin is a sign the Eagles believe rookies Eric Rowe and JaCorey Shepherd can step in and play this season.

The Steelers desperately needed help in a shuffled secondary after the retirements of safety Troy Polamalu and cornerback Ike Taylor.

Boykin immediately bolsters a unit led by William Gay and Cortez Allen.

Boykin spent three seasons with the Eagles, starting in six games. He compiled seven interceptions, including six in 2013, and forced four fumbles in that time.

to be honest, i think our best bet is to start gay and boykin at corner. tez and blake as the nickle and dime guys with mitchell as the ss and only safety on the field. all of our corners tackle well enough to handle it and mitchell could be the muscle and lay the wood. use these corners instead of a free safety.

Not a bad idea at all. Put the best players on the field.

I like that idea... And I wouldn't be surprised to see it tonight.
