Obviously Landry jones is not panning out. It's good Bruce is back but no reason to keep Landry. Eagles gonna have to let go of Barkley or Tebow. They both played well and are better than jones. Tebow actually is the only heismann winner the last decade or so with a winning record I am pretty sure. So you think either would be a good option for a good depth guy?

Nope. Frankly I think they all suck.

Our best bet is to get some guy who hasn't been in a NFL camp yet to see if he shows any traits that are worth working with. I have no names to offer.

If I was forced to pick between Tebow and Jones...it's Tebow and it isn't close.

Both of those guys are better options at 3rd QB than LJ. Steelers would be way better off with either of them. Eagles have a tough choice on who to keep for their 3rd QB. We are talking 3rd string so the chance of any of them seeing the field is slim. Tebow is a great guy and fan favorite and might have the largest fan following of any other player in the league. At this point, LJ hasn't shown much but not sure how long you keep the experiment going for a 3rd string guy. Remember Dennis Dixon? Tebow probably doesn't fit the offense here real well. but I'm a fan of Tebow and would love to see him in the black n gold. It also seems like getting rid of Jones for Barkley would be more trouble than its worth. I see more upside to having Tebow on the roster than Barkley, or Jones for that matter. I think the Eagles keep Tebow just for the following and interest that Tebow draws. Again we are talking 3rd string. I would consider Tebow over LJ if the Eagles cut him but probably wouldn't go after Barkley if he is odd man out because he just doesn't have that much more upside than Jones and at least LJ knows the playbook. (well.... maybe not...)

I would go with Tebow , more Teams are going to go for 2 points esp when the weather gets tougher . Any QB with a zone read threat has more Team value than Jones .

I'm not worried about who our 3rd string QB is. We're dead in the water anyway if we get to that.

None of those guys are any good. If Ben goes down for more than a game or two we are screwed anyways. Landry is what he is... A 3rd string QB. I'd keep the guy who knows the playbook and knows the guys in the locker room. None of them are "better", and hopefully for the state of Pennsylvania's sake none of them see a snap in a regular season game this year.

The current list of available QBs is sketchy at best. I dont see anyone healthy out there who would significantly upgrade our 3rd QB spot right now. Until cuts start to happen, I wouldn't do anything differently. Keep trotting LJ out there and see if he "gets it." Once cuts start happening, then I take a hard look. My guess is that's why LJ is getting pretty much all of the work. I think he is firmly on the bubble, and a decision will be made as soon as a viable QB gets cut. I don't currently see Barkley or Tebow falling into that "viable" category.

After more thought and reading the post I suppose a 3rd qb is not really necessary, we can continue using the decoy we have if needed.

Aye, but then who is the competition with? If LJ gets all the throws, then isn't the upshot going to be: "well, he's not that good, but we don't know how good the next guy is so... we'll stick with Jones"?

I think there's more afoot. However, I also agree that at the moment there aren't too many viable alternatives anyway.

TBH I'm more concerned about Gradkowski getting some more time under centre. It isn't like he's set the world alight here yet.

I think LJ is competing with whoever eventually gets cut by someone else, not with someone else on our current roster. I think our coaches are trying to see everything they can of him this preseason to make a final determination on his future with the team before the season starts. I'm also not enamored with Grad, but he can manage a game if needed. We're not going to win a playoff game with him, but he help us stay afloat for a few games during the season if needed. If someone like Colt McCoy gets cut (unlikely), I pounce and bid LJ adieu - unless he shows next week that the reps are truly leading to improvement and viability as an NFL QB.

I'd love to have Colt McCoy as a back up.
There was that KC back up who looked really good against us - Chase Daniel? - not sure where he's ended up now.

With bell, brown, Bryant, miller, and Wheaton I wouldn't say we are dead in the water.

If we were gonna pull the trigger on a high numbered college QB like we did with Landry, I'd prefer we would've waited and did what the Be gals did with AJ

A total what if scenario for sure, but the bengals scored there. And with a later pick than what we spent on Landry.

Me and Myron were pushing for McCoy a few years ago. I think he would make a really solid backup. It's good to know there are even more brilliant people like Myron and myself out there. Although I already knew you were brilliant previous to this. This just enhances your legacy.

Tebow sucks, it's a passing league and he can't pass. They are better off with Landry as the 3rd QB.

Might win a game or 2. Dead in the water as far as winning a playoff game, forget about even having SB aspirations.

Still have to be able to field a team, not just going to forfeit :lolol:

It wasn't too long ago that we actually needed 3, when Lefty got hurt, should have went to Batch but he got no reps that week. So they kept trotting out an injured Lefty. So, they had 3 QB's, needed to go to the 3rd QB and still didnt!

I've actually got a better idea than any I've heard here so far. Trade the Pats Landry for Garropolo.

That kid Joe Webb in Carolina played pretty descent against the Bills the other night. Or maybe, bring in someone from the CFL. We're talking 3rd string right?

Dennis Dixon or Jerrod Johnson!!!!! ... Anyone? ... Anyone?

Seriously though... is Kyle Orton still around, I'd take him for a game or two if I had to... I guess he wouldn't come out of retirement unless i twas to start?

Yup, they scored with that pick for sure.

I had no problem picking Landry. What I do have a problem with is how long we are holding on to him. We should have discovered in that first year we had him if he was worth anything (most of us on this board thought not). For some reason our coaching staff/FO thought to hold onto him for at least 3 years. If a QB is worth holding on to, it'll show up in the meeting rooms, how he commands the huddle, how he handles the little reps he gets in the preseason games (is he aggressive or timid?), and other behind-the-scenes attitude/preparation stuff. From what we could see, Jones showed none of that, and we should have cut ties with him and tried again. Over and over until we found someone worth the time investment.

If we keep 3 QB's I sure hope that 3rd guy is someone worth developing. Jones clearly isn't it, and neither are any of his competition. This should be the year we roll with 2 QB's and keep an extra guy somewhere else on the roster, like at OLB or DL. Then try again next year for a developmental QB and take someone in the back half of the draft.

Landry has shown enough to get a practice squad job once again. This is his last year of eligibility. He will only make active roster if Gradkowski goes down and can't play. Steelers won't cut him loose unless there is another young rookie that was good, but just didn't make another team and they will put that player on practice squad.
All the better if Tyler Murphy makes it as the 5th WR you can always use him as an emergency 3rd QB if need be on a game day. But, that might be a stretch for him to make the active roster.
