Ed Bouchette of the Post Gazette blogged about this because they probably aren't sure how long Gradkowski will be out. He said how bad Landry and Taj Boyd looked in training camp so far, which continued their bad performance from the spring.

It is interesting and I wouldn't be against I don't really see any better back up QBs out there. He's not what he once was by any means but at least we have weapons he could work with.

I don't want that POS here. He's not that good anyway.

I would prefer to pass on Vick but our backups are so shaky it's scary. Guess it all really depends on Grad's arm. I think it's time to get rid of the mistake that was Landry Jones.

I'm sorry PWP but signing Vick means more of the same problems they already have. You will have an aging vet who has struggled his whole career with accuracy and consistency but has/had the athletic ability to make plays with his legs. His character issues alone make him off limits to the Steelers. It's the first week of camp no need to make a panic signing. Wait and see how Jones and Boyd look while keeping an eye on the waiver wire. If we take a run at Vick might as well try Sanchez and Tebow as well make a trifecta of inconsistent QB'S

i see your point , but I think Vick would be better than Jones for sure . I don't mind us waiting but if Grad is not right we need a vet of some sort . I think Vic has cleaned up his character though not a real concern for me. You are spot on about his up and down play though.

I would think by the rumors that have been circulating out there that guys like Cassel, Hoyer, Mettenberg, and some other fringe starters will be getting cut loose by preseason week 3. If they are really pressed I read that Charlie Batch is helping out in camp in an unofficial capacity.

All three of those would be preferable to Vick.

In fact, getting Brian St Pierre out of retirement would be preferable to Vick.

Grad is a good backup, who cares what hes doing in camp, they are barely into this thing. Hes a vet that knows how to play the game, they should have left him in the playoff game, Ben clearly wasn't ready to come back in and Grad was doing well.

I thought he had an injury BF although I didn't have the volume up on the video about the first day in pads. Hence the thread about signing a veteran QB rather than trust Jones and Boyd

I misread, thought the complaint was he was having a bad camp along with Boyd and Jones, was skimming.

One guess has Grad returning by the 3rd preseason game though, so could be moot.

I like Grad better than all those guys. If I could pick our backup and we had the power to do it I would probably take Matt Hasslebeck but he's got some years on him too. I think he's in Indy now but at one time was the highest paid backup in the league wasn't he?

I don't think Gradkowski's injury will keep him out that long. I don't know that for sure, but I havent heard its anything too serious. I doubt Pittsburgh signs a FA quarterback. I'm pulling for Boyd over Jones at this point, and it will probably take all of preseason to figure out what they have in those two. If they did try to sign somebody, I would take a guy like Rex Grossman. Never thought he was that bad of a QB.

I would pass on Vick also, I was posting the question what one of the beat writer's said. Vick was good enough to beat the Steelers last season when he was with the Jets :dancing:

I would actually say we were just bad enough to beat ourselves in that game. LOL.

Maybe the Steelers should look into Matt Moore backup QB for the Dolphins, see if they would trade him.

Did the Raiders hold on to that kid from Penn State? McGloin I believe? He had some success last season if I remember correctly and could be gotten cheap as well.

Colt McCoy is a guy that I wanted a couple of years ago as a backup. He even went in there and played that great MNF game against Dallas and won it. He's a dude with high character and probably wouldn't be too expensive and could stick around a while. I think he's definitely better than Landry at the very least.

    I'd rather go 0-16.

If we did sign him, I would have no choice but to stop being a fan for as long as he was here, and god knows how long after he left. This is no, "If we don't draft Todd Gurley I'm burning all my stuff" cry for attention. I'd be out.

Read The Lost Dogs. Vick didn't make any "mistakes" or "errors in judgment," nor did he regret his actions (getting caught, perhaps). He did exactly what he meant to do, what he always wanted to do. He's evil, and I hope I don't hear rumblings about Tomlin wanting to sign him, because then I'll have to stop liking Tomlin.

Vick is a miserable piece of dog crap. Shame on anyone for wanting to bring that vile piece of filth to a tremendous organization. May the fleas of a thousand camels climb upon your balls.
