New seating at the stadium.

Looking at the construction pictures, you'd never notice that those seats were not in the original drawings. I'm betting they were always there as an expansion option.

Anyway, the end is still open for the most part. What do you think it will do for the wind at that end this year?

 

When the stadium was designed, that area was intended to be able to have more seats added. They did not do it at the time because they wanted to make sure they could sell out games and avoid blackouts. But it was in the initial design. Now, it was tweeked for final design. They even had a preliminary plan for how to split the cost, but when push came to shove, that was re negotiated.

 

So did they add them now since they took away the blackout rule or is that just a coincidence?

 

They have been working on it for the last couple years as far as getting the funding figured out. I doubt an extra 3,000 seats would affect a Steelers sell out

It won't affect them now, but at the time, with the stadium already getting larger, Dan Rooney said he wanted to error on the side of caution. He said he did not want to take any chance on a Steeler fan not being able to see a game.

 

I believe the total plan is for 12,000 more seats total when all is said and done.
