This leads me to further believe Dri was on Haley's wish list. He loves trick players. But I only love them if the plays work.

The only problem with that is it will be the same scenario as with Rainey. Here's a fast little guy that is only on the field a couple times a game and when he's there he gets the ball. It doesn't fool anyone. It's 3rd and 15 with Chris Rainey as the lone back... here comes the draw

I think Haley is good at playing the long game in developing strategies. They need some more routes for Archer that get him out of the backfield, though. Less screens, more direct pass plays.

His first play in the preseason was a play with him in the slot. He took it for about 30 or so. I figured that was how they were gonna use him. I think the problem though is that if they can't establish anything with him coming out of the backfield it's just gonna show our hand every time he's on the field. He could be used on like a misdirection or reverse or something like that maybe. He definitely is gonna need space. He showed no ability last year to absorb any contact whatsoever.

We just spent backup QB money on a backup RB, and now we're worried about getting the backup's backup touches?

Agreed, BFT. But they don't need to telegraph it in those ways. It's not like every time Lance Moore came on the defense would presume we'd throw to him. Archer needs to be on the field as an option, rather than a blocker or the main target on a screen - draw plays that Ben can check out of, or angled routes that take him past the line of scrimmage before he gets the ball.

He needs to be on the field more, and for that to happen he needs to flesh out his game a little more.

The amount of time, energy, and resources spent to recreate Dexter McCluster is mind boggling.

I think if he can ever bust some big plays it will cause teams to really sorta "respect" him a little more and then he could become a really valuable decoy that could stretch the field even more for AB and Bryant to make some big plays. Bryant has blazing speed and if Archer could draw some attention to get him in space we could have a deadly offense.

I just think Haley wants to create an offense that will keep defenses guessing and off balance at all times. Don't get me wrong. I thought it was a mistake to take Archer in the 3rd but he's here and if we could figure out a way to use him he could be helpful.

That's not true; I saw a 5 mile per hour wind hit him, and, although knocked off balance, he did manage to keep his feet.

I cant wait till the kid, in his SECOND year mind you, scores or makes a great play and the board blows up with phrases like.....what a great pick! this kid has speed to burn! or the one I really look forward to is Haley really knows how to use his players.lol

Exactly. They drafted him, it is what it is. I'm going to pull for the kid all the way and hope he can make an impact.

Pfft, didn't you know, around here if you don't break out in your first game you're a bust.

It's all playbook creativity. Wood head in New England, sproles, etc... If they mix him in enough the D will never know and that's when you get your home run.

Square peg. We will know by next season game 2 of it is a round hole. If by then he is not significant it ain't not happening.

I think we actually agree on this. If he can't play ST'S his value is very limited and does not warrant a touch for Archer game plan . If the kid wants touches make something happen on ST'S .

And if that happens, I will gladly eat the crow I have cooked. But until then, he sucks.

Haley may want to change things up and keep them guessing, but his 'wants' need work.

I think I agree with the Blast, and maybe not the MAIN point of the article, but a BIG point, is...

He can help on kick/punt returns...

If he can do that, he EARNS his place on the roster...

I would much rather have him get hurt on a return, than Antonio, but our coach, obviously, does not share this belief...

On a side note, I don`t want him hurt, but at least it wouldn`t be our #1 reciever, that "took one for the team"...

I`m also not sure what seperates a "kick" returner", from a "punt" returner...

I guess the "Kick" returner has more chances to kneel, but a "punt" returner can fair catch, right?...

To me, it`s kinda the same skill set...

Track the ball in the air, catch it, and GET UPFIELD, while following your blockers as much as possible...

DON`T dance, go side to side, and try to make too much out of nuthin...

To me, Antonio, is horrible in this regard...

For the FEW times he breaks a big one, or scores...

He could consistently gain 10 to 20 yards per return..

Pretty sure Archer could, too... and have better chances of breaking a big one out of those straightforward returns, because of his speed...

As for the rest of it,

Yeah, he should be on th field more, when he is not getting the ball, but can he block???

    I will re-visit this after I eat.

My girl said "It`s time to eat"...

So, I`ll be back to this later...
