Well... Ok. I'd love to have him, but I can't envision a scenario where he falls into our range unless we make a Julio Jones type of trade.

Wonder if this is the draft we trade up? Like Elvis, can't imagine him falling to us but I guess they have to do their due diligence.

NO interest in that. I'm not interested in mortgaging our future even for one guy that might be "the missing piece." And we aren't that close to being perfect.

I don't want to lose a 2nd rounder. According to the trade value chart (importance overrated, in my opinion), our 3rd rounder would get us up to between #17 and #18. If we get a friendly deal from a team wanting to move back could maybe get us as high as #15. Which guys that might realistically be on the board would you make that move to get?

I'll have to watch a bit more of Ray, but based on my limited review of his tape to date I'd be ok using a 2nd to move up to get him. I NEVER want to trade up, but I think the fall off after the first handful of players is significant this year. I don't see any pass rushers that intrigue me other than the guys who are projected to go high, and to me the 4th round DBs look about the same as the 2nd round DBs. If there's a year to move up, this is it IMO. Now I'll admit I've watched less film than usual this year, but what I have watched at our positions of need is not encouraging to me.

I like the kids mindset. Was featured on NFL Network this morning. I also believe this year they will be trading up if a player is on the radar. They need an impact player now, not a project. A starter out of the gate.

Heck throw in Tomato Cam Thomas, Landry Jones, Cortez "Meltdown" Allen and Dri Archer :lolol:

not every team is interested in an edge rusher. a lot of teams will be looking at other spots on offense or everywhere else to improve their teams, so just because we think all the edge guys are highly rated and we think they will be gone doesn't make it so. it just depends on who wants who before pick 22. he may fall to us. we may not have to move up more than a couple of spots, if at all.

I don't think we're that far off...I say an OLB and DB away from #7. It'd be nice to sign a CB in free agency so that's one less position of need in the draft.

Edit: that doesn't mean we don't need another CB...just doesn't HAVE to be in 1st or 2nd round unless it's too good to pass up on

22 is pretty far down, I'll be shocked if he's there.

there are some good offensive weapons in this draft. many teams are trying to do the catch up on offense and it sure seems like defense is taking a little bit of a backseat to it since the rules changes. a lot of teams ahead of us could be looking for top wr's and their own bell out of this one. not to mention a couple of good TE's at the top of that list and a lot of good tackles this year. as I said it depends what they want to do and what best fits their needs. other teams go after needs. we didn't think DD was going to be there for us either. ya never know.

Wanna bet? Really good edge rushers who can also set the edge against the run don't grow on trees. It's one of the few positions where you really have no chance of getting a proven one in free agency without paying a king's ransom, so you need to draft one when you have the opportunity. Even if the teams drafting near the top of the 1st round didn't need edge rushers, and some need them badly, someone else in the teens would jump up for Ray and Fowler. I feel absolutely sure they will be gone by pick 12 or so, probably a lot sooner.

Now if you want to say that one of the guys with more question marks like Beasley, Gregory or DuPree may be there, then OK maybe. However, I don't currently see those guys as being nearly as complete players as Ray and Fowler. I'd probably trade up high for Ray or Fowler, I don't think I'd do likewise for the other guys.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. I'm a little more taken with Dupree's athleticism then others but agree, he's not on Fowler or Ray's level.

Physically Dupree is a great prospect. I just got tired of playing "Where's Waldo" when I watched him on tape. He made some plays, but not enough for his physical talent level IMO. He may end up being a great pro, but he could also bomb.

I agree with that, need to be a football player and not just a great athlete but man, if he can put it all together, look out.

that's just it IF. we argue this fact every year on here. the same ol teams are still drafting before us and you would think with the importance you talk about with these great can't miss edge rushers, these teams would have them all every year and they don't. they draft early enough to get them but opt for other positions. I think it happens again.

no ray probably won't get to 22 but I see a lot more of these same early picking culprits passing on a defender to grab offense just like usual. I remember last year all these can't miss edge rushers that were at the top, well none of them really set the league on fire. there are several players that have the sacks and more in college of fowler and ray and they are not going that high. a lot of them made more tackles on the year too. we will see. when the likes of the raiders stop drafting all over the place then you can convince me, but I see the same names up there every year.:smiley1::cool:
