I have been trying to make this point all offseason, the CB issue is not about depth. It is about not having a #1. If Allen gets his head out of his butt, he could be a #2. Gay is a solid #3. That leaves Blake and Webb fighting for spot #4 unless we sign Robinson and then HE can be the #4. Again you look, there is no number 1.

we really don't need anymore #4's. I think gay can be a stop gap #2 for a season or two as deshea did. trouble is last year was one of those years. any number 1 we will get at this point will come via the draft. then not having a strong safety corp behind them it makes it that much more difficult. add the loss of pressure from the missing OLB corp and it intensifies the situation. I'm really wondering why webb didn't see any time on the field last year. he was kicked out of dallas because they went to a different defense and he didn't fit well. our defense is more to his abilities though so maybe there is hope there.

I for some reason wrote #2 for what role we were missing. I meant #1. I have corrected original post.

That being said, I don't think Robinson is a #4, but if that is the role we were asking him to fill, I think he can do it. I like the thought of that signing. I think he is MUCH better than what NO's perception is of him.

    #1 - ???
    #2 - Allen
    #3 - Gay
    #4 - Robinson
    #5 - Blake
    #6 - Webb

That isn't horrible except for the glaring hole at the top. If all those guys have to move up on spot for the upcoming year, we are going to have problems against the pass. That being said, I do think we get an OLB in the draft who can play right away and that our front 3 when including Tuitt starting, will stop the run better than it has the past couple of years.

My thoughts exactly, Robinson and Kyle Wilson could easily come in on Cheap 1-2 year deals a be a instant upgrade.

Since Cordarrelle Patterson is on the trade block, trade Cortez Allen and his contract to the Vikings for Patterson to be primary KR/PR.

Draft Rnd 1 Kevin Johnson WF

My guess is that our evaluators are thinking that Robinson would be better than a #4 corner in our scheme. Very few CBs are truly scheme diverse, and I recall thinking he could fit what we do pretty well when he was drafted.

How do any of us know what the scheme is going to be? Yes a 3-4 with some hybrid looks but I believe there will be changes.

To put Cortez Allen as a set #2 is premature. I would say Gay is the #2 at this point. Hopefully Meltdown Allen can get his head on straight and contribute. Again Colbert stated he is coming into camp to compete.

True that the secondary is a weakness. But it's been for some time. It has been neglected.

Robinson won't be coming in to be a #4. And if a trade for Keenan Allen is in the cards, there is your #1.

Should be pass rusher or corner in the 1st/2nd. Then corner again. Need 2 and a SS.

Antwon Blake. I have all the faith in the world that he will be our #1, and perform like it. He's flashed, now he just needs to put it all together.

I'd rather do without a #1 CB. I'd rather have three #2 quality guys so we have solid coverage across the board, and then worry about giving help to whoever needs it. #1 CB usually means paying $8 mil to $10 mil to a guy that probably needs safety help with the top WRs anyway.

    I agree.

The Blake/McCain tandem showed us towards the end of last season what it could be like - a bit more strengthening, and some improvements in the pass rush, and we're in a better shape next year (if we find a McCain-like player).

Is that a good sign, TTF? Like he planned other visits, but we're keeping him in the building because we may have convinced him?

Ironically, Patrick Robinson was highlighted yesterday on ESPN as Top Plays for St Patrick's Day. Guessing his theme was his first name.... looked like an impressive int. Anyone else see that blip, pretty sure it was ESPN
