The Saints have released Pierre Thomas and I was curious what people think of him. He can catch coming out of the backfield and I read that he didn't fumble once in this past season. He also gets some yards after contact. With him being an 8yr vet I think we could get him at a good price and maybe he's someone we could count on to give Bell a breather. What do you guys think?

I like him, if he understands his role that he would
play and can PASS PROTECT and is in our price range then say lets at least talk to him.

Yes. I might put him as our #1 free agent RB target. He's a solid football player.

Pass protection is definitely a high priority. I think Thomas would be a good insurance policy if his protection skills are at least mildly competent. I wouldn't be surprised if he could pass protect though because he comes from an offense that loves to air it out.

He is a solid 3 down RB and the Team would be dumb to at least not kick the tires .

What about keeping Ben Tate? Or is he too much of a fumbler? Bell is a beast and we are lucky to have him. It's amazing how quickly the RB position has become more devalued as Goodell's plan to make the NFL a passing league is in full effect. I think finding a fully capable RB in the mid-rounds is highly possible, but I'd rather address this need in FA and focus on more glaring needs in the draft (CB, OLB, S).

I'm on board for sure. With a possible now 4 game suspension looming they are going to need vet help. Always liked Thomas and I believe he would be a good fit.

It's his yards after contact that I like.

I believe he's still got enough to be a guy that could carry us in bells absence and be that 2nd guy off the bench that's starter quality. kevin do it.:smiley1::cool:

He is worth a look - hell he may be even a decent replacement for CAM Thomas.

I'm just glad to start a "sign him" thread that doesn't wind up as the object of vast ridicule. Lol.

    No. Never. Absolutely not.

Actually, I think he'd be a great pick up, for all the reasons others have given. Certainly a better option than Tate. I just felt the need to balance the argument, as otherwise we're at risk of all agreeing on something again... Maybe it's something to do with players called Thomas?

He had a nice avg last year (4.9) but i really don't like signing FA's on the wrong side of 30; it's generally not a wise idea. Team with the discipline to avoid doing so usually are good for long stretches. I would much rather sign a 26-year old.

Thomas didn't get a lot of touches at New Orleans, which always mystified me because everytime I watched him play, I was impressed.
He might have 8 years in the league, but very little wear and tear. He is a patient runner who follows blocks well, and he seems to have a knack for big first downs with nice 5 to 15 yard runs.

3 years for 6 mill , to give Bell a blow would appeal to all sides.

Some years back there was a thread about who our favorite non-Steelers players were, and it took me a long time to come up with anyone, but I landed on Pierre Thomas. Love the way he plays. Smart, well-rounded, aggressive. Hard runner. In all honesty though, I haven't watched him play the last couple of years, so I have no idea how much he has left in the tank. If he's still himself, he'd be a perfect backup to Bell.

He's still got game. NO is sorta in a rebuilding process and he, along with a lot of the SB roster, has fallen victim to their age in FA. I think he would be really good and I think we could get him at a good price. I think Haley would love him too for his ball skills. That could be deadly to have two legit backfield threats that can run AND catch. Seems like most "specialist" backs or whatever in the league are really one dimensional but I think it would add another dimension to our playcalling to have a guy like him.

With what we should be looking at, and again he agrees to what his job function will be(limited touches) he would be high on my list.Would Dre Archer make the team if we sign this guy?

I would take Darren McFadden or Reggie Bush over him, Pierre is getting old.
