Im so tired of hearing this elite crap about QBS, Ben is good, Romo is good Flacco is good ,Manning is good, Brady is good and on and on, every qb isn't gonna play good every game of his life just like u and I don't do good at work every day, Ben is a god damn good qb and anyone that doubts that is stupid, you should cherish having a good qb for 10 plus years, cuz look at the redskins , browns and other teams struggle for years to find one, stop listening to all this media Elite crap and enjoy having a good QB for the next few years cuz it could take years before we get a good one again, remember Kordell Stewart, Tomzack, Miller, Graham, Brister and all the other scrubs we had before getting Ben, remember a qb cant do it alone, u need a defense who can stop someone sometimes, so lets go out and find some OLBS to some pressure on opposing QBS and make the rest of our defense look better.

You're right, Ben is good. Very good. I would even say at times he's great! I've suffered through some really bad quarterbacks for the Steelers over the years so I for one REALLY appreciate Ben and think we need to get him tied up for the long run. I just hope Omar the Wiz can figure out a cap friendly way to do it!

Here's where I burst your bubble though. I don't think Ben is elite. He's a top tier, franchise, generational quarterback but not elite. Aside from one magical drive in the Super Bowl his performance in the Big Game has been average. In one of those Super Bowls he was downright abysmal. In another he had an opportunity late to bring the team back and went 4 and out. The fact is that he's come up short in big games and big situations more often than not the last few seasons and that is keeping him from making the next step into the land of the elite.

I think Ben is the fifth best QB in the league after Rodgers, Brady, Manning and Brees, in that order. If he finishes his career with another Lombardi or two and is able to start coming up big at crucial times like he once did, he may yet enter the lofty ranks of the elite.

Going 2-1 in the SB. Big plays, game winning drives, etc. Does it really matter if he's called "elite?" Elite Manning has less SB rings than his brother, Brees has 1, Mr. Elite Tom-Tom, while very good, had to rely on a kicker to win his 3 rings. Elite, shlemite!

I am so tired of this topic. I don't know why people get so worked up when someone suggest Ben isn't "elite". Who cares! They don't give out awards at the end of the year to the elite QB's most of whom aren't playing on Super Sunday. There isn't a special section in Canton for the elite QB's. The refs don't suddenly stop a play an go "oh wait you're an elite you may have the pass interference penalty. It is completley made up so that sports analysts and writers will have something to talk about if it is a slow news day. Ben wins that should be enough all the rest is just window dressing. He has two rings and maybe would have a third if people didn't wind him up with the elite talk because I think he still wants to prove he is better than Eli and Rivers and in the conversation with Manning and Brady when he has already proved much more than that. Let the conversation rest.

5TH Best in the league right? who cares , the only list we should care about is 1}Ben 2} terry3} odonell 4) Maddox 5} brister , do u see where im going with this, Ben is freaking good, does he make mistakes at times yes, does he do good at times yes,,, do all the others u talk about do the same yes, If Brady and Manning played witht the lines we had recently they would npot be good, look at Romo this year hes got a line and hes doing really good ,he even won a playoff game, and didn't loose in December, all this Elite crap is for espn, nfl network to talk about,, wheres Elite Brees this year, or Elite Eli, or hpow good was Elite Flacco last week vs the browns to luckily get in the playoffs, or Elite Rivers ,, Ben just doesn't get the media love because of his offfield issues and the NFL cant promote him, hes a meathead, not the wholesome image they want to promote, so with the refs help Romo won, if he gets zebra help 2 more weeks , is he Elite, THERE IS NO ELITE, THEY ARE ALL GOOD PLAYERS,WHO WUTH SOME LUCK,SKILL, AND NFL (REFS HELP) WIN SUPER BOWLS ETC ETC

I like how a thread asking to end the debate has already started the debate again.

Whenever I hear discussions of "elite", I can only ever think of this:

I guess I just don't get why people are upset that this debated. Its a message board isn't it? Isn't that the purpose of it? To post topics and then have other members enter their opinions? If you don't want to debate whether Ben is elite or not, just don't click on that particular topic. There are things on here that don't interest me, so I just don't click that topic. Its not that hard and I don't think anyone on the MB has any right to tell other members what they can and can not discuss.

Bradshaw had career games in the playoffs - especially the Super Bowl. Ben's performance in the Super Bowl isn't even close.

    Bradshaw
    Year QBR

    1975 122.5 W
    1978 119.2 W
    1974 108.0 W
    1979 101.9 W

    Ben

    Year QBR

    2008 93.2 W
    2010 77.4 L
    2005 22.6 W

Well that number gets thrown around a lot but I think the reality is Ben played a much better game than people realize. The block that he threw for Ranle-El to hit Hines on the gadget td was critical. He also rushed for a td. So while he didn't have the best game through the air you can give me the guy any day that's willing to go out there and do what it takes to win. Ben also played lights out to get us to the Super Bowl and arguably the MAIN reason we won the SB that year was not because of an OFFENSIVE play by Ben but a DEFENSIVE play by Ben. Most qbs in the league just get out of the way when a runner is coming at them and especially the "elite" guys. There's a famous gif of Brady actually GOING THE OTHER WAY instead of making a tackle and Manning is the same way. Ben is an elite athlete and an all around football player in the vain of a guy like John Elway and Brett Favre and I love him for it. One of Elway's career highlights is not a pass but him diving like a helicopter to get a crucial first down. Guys like Manning and Brady don't do that. Ben has and would in a heartbeat. I think the reason the guys that get labeled "elite" have more to do with the fact that they are more "conventional". All their game shows up on a stat sheet. Ben's game doesn't always translate to fantasy numbers but when you see it visually you realize that he has things in his game that translates in to wins as much as those other guys do.

It is real. As blountforcetrauma said Ben did have a great year. He did make some big plays with his legs and the third-and-thirtysomething conversion that lead to his TD was huge. However, the main reasons we won that game were Seattle's two missed field goals, eight dropped passes, poor clock management at the end of both halves, pushing off in the end zone (he did extend his arm and deserved the call), and - of all things - an Ike Taylor interception.

It really depends on which Ben shows up, Good Ben or Bad Ben. At best, Roethlisberger has been inconsistent the past few years.

It's a pretty easy choice to resign him. We have no one waiting in the wings, and are in no position to select another franchise qb in the draft.

Or maybe just a "Rehash" Sub Forum where every time you feel the need to argue Haley/BA, Elite/Not Elite, Lebeau Should Stay/Go, eat some crow, and other common arguments can all just be concentrated in to one nice, neat, little package of monotony. LOL.
