What is the best solution for the Steelers D? Do you think if we had both Revis and Sherman as our CBs that the defense would still struggle? What if we picked up Suh (NT or DE?) and drafted an elite pass rusher, would the secondary play better? Or what if we drafted or traded (Troy) for a top safety tandem? All of these would help, and I know we would never get Revis/Sherman, but what would be the best fix?

Nobody is giving us a top safety tandem for Troy. We're also not going to get Revis or Sherman, nor are we going to get Suh.

Our only hope is through the draft

Did the team suddenly get $30 million in cap space? Either way, I'll just throw this out there...should we could get an all-star player at every position, yeah, I'd expect them to play better than they do now.

    This is hypothetical, not realistic.

If we had CBs like Sherman and Revis, would it be enough for our defense go from porous to stout?

Else If Suh joined our D-line, would that alone be enough to fix our D?

Or would the addition of two top safeties be enough to turn our defense around?

Suh has actually not been all he was billed to be though right? I'm just asking this out of curiosity. From some things I've seen the Lions are all but for sure gonna release him. Maybe he's just not worth what he thinks he is?

    No

    No

    No

He will be a free agent after this season and has expressed an interest to leave Detroit. He's all he was chalked up to be. The guy is solid all around.

My answer is no as well unless we got the entire back end. We need 2 or 3 CB'S and a FS and SS. If we got all those then yes the defense would become elite in a hurry . We have some skilled players in the front 7 we have virtually nothing on the back end .

I am 41 and I think I can play at a higher level than our DB'S . I watched the High School State Championships this week and there was at least 10 DB'S who would be better than the ones we start now. We should never spend another draft pick on the front 7 until we fix the back end of this defense.

It may take 2 drafts with every pick to do so is the sad thing.

the thing I don't understand is that when we had a good pass rush, Harrison, farrier, Woodley, Timmons as lbs, this same secondary got the job done. we were ranked 1st and went to a super bowl. we lose farrier and it falls apart. for me with this defense its all about pressure. no db is gonna hold up when you give any qb 4 or 6 seconds to throw. I don't know the answer. I know I can do like everyone else and throw solutions at the problem and hope something works.

I am just not sure we have the horses to run the defense yet. that being said, Jarvis, ryan, and tuitt are gonna be great I think. I haven't even given up on shemerko yet but he needs to get on the field. if we can keep heyward and Timmons a few more years at this level, I bet the pass rush will be dominate again.

we went to super bowls when these guys were in there primes. the names may be the same but father time moves on. same as Sherman and revis will have happen to them.

I also remember the corner from Oakland that went to philly. some wild named guy. he was the one we needed so bad and was so good, well now you never hear of him and he fell flat on his face in philly. remember philly's dream team? how did that work out?

players age and new players take over. has revis ever won a SB playing for anyone? so, how much difference could he make? it takes a whole team. Detroit and a lot of other teams have had top first round picks year after year and are still after a super bowl win. it's more than a couple of players.

everyone talks about darth hoodie as the best coach, but pete carroll built a team his way and got ridiculed for some of his picks in the draft every year. he drafted what worked for his team and how they would play in his system and now looks like a genius. that's how you build a winner. I'm not sure Colbert and tomlin as a tandum have that ability.

We didn't just lose Farrior. He was a big part of this defense, but we saw a significant drop off from Woodley, Harrison, Polamalu, Clark, Taylor...

The guy is a beast and is a big reason the Lions have one of the best defences in the league

Letting Foote go was the dumbest thing they could have done, he's balllllen in Arizona, we also passed on the best free safety in the 2013 draft, stupid moves like this has hurt this team, whose on first?????????

The Seahawks have also had the advantage of making those moves while having a productive, minimum wage QB who doesn't eat up 1/4 of the cap. That's about to change.

that's why I think their window is small. lynch and Wilson are both gonna eat up a lot of dollars

I told my buddy the night they won the SB that the biggest enemy that team was gonna face is the salary cap and I still stand by that. There are just too many stars on that team.

We've been going downhill since Casey Hampton and A-a-ron Smith left.

doesn't matter, nobody else thought as highly of Wilson coming out of college as a pro qb. carroll saw something in him, the same as many of their players that they said he over drafted. that's the point.

he drafted football players. guys that fit what he wanted out of them. he uses their strengths and has built a very good team. his way. that's the point I was making. he had a vision for his team and didn't let anyone make him deviate from it. no matter what the so called experts said about these players. he plays to their strengths and designed the team around those strengths. they believe in him and play for him.

I agree. Casey and Aaron were both huge. In both the literal and figurative sense of course. LOL.

This is not Madden 2015, nor is it Monopoly. Your like trying to build a dream team defense. Salary cap prevents teams from doing so, which is why the NFL is a great system.

Big Snack made the 3-4 work and with Smith and Kiesel on the edge our linebackers had the run of the house. Our back 8 would look much better if we can get a nose tackle to play like Hampton.

I've been screaming that very thing all year. We would also have been MUCH better against the run this year too.

yea but if we had joe greene, LC greenwood, Dwight white and ernie holmes, we would forget all about casey Hampton and our DB's would also look much better.:smiley1::cool:

I agree with Bus. Foote may be doing okay... but as far as being ballllen?? and the dumbest thing?? not really.

They broke up a team that knew each other's nuances and ticks but it was time to let him go.

Strummerfan and NashvilleCat also have very valid points.
