I would be mad if they did it and BEAT US. NOT just if they DID IT. Also EVERYthing they do is magnified because they are a hated rival. I think that over the top play is actually stupid play 99% of the time even when Troy does it. I can literally only think of one time that it has ever worked. It was against the Titans and he did it to Kerry Collins on a goal line play. Other than that, I can't think of when he has done it and it has worked. I remember that Schiano was the guy that started this when he did it to the Giants and Coughlin got mad at him about it. I didn't think it was a big deal. I wish someone would ask Tomlin if he knew Mitchell was gonna do that. Maybe since Rex ran his gob about it it will cause someone to ask Tomlin about it.

Yeah, it's like I thought. I'm not giving Babin a pass, he clearly was driving for a late hit after the whistle but I would have rather he hit Ben high then his knees which is where Decastro drove him to. Not that Decastro did it on purpose, was just trying to stop him.

Hard to tell from that little clip, but I wonder if Babin simply didn't hear the whistle and didn't realize everyone else had stopped. It almost looks like he didn't realize the play was dead

His reaction after the play sorta makes it out that he did it on purpose. He didn't try to apologize at all and actually best view of it is the broadcast replay view. It shows it close and it looked VERY much like he did it purposely there. They even said that he should have known it was over because everyone else heard the whistle. Also they said Babin has a history of this crap.

Doing what Mitchell did during the victory formation is bush league to me. I've never considered Rex Ryan a classy guy.

I don't have a gif of the Babin hit at the moment, but I pulled the audio real quick.

Am I right though that the victory formation has its roots in the Miracle of the Meadowlands?

I thought the victory formation went back farther than that. That play was a botched handoff, right?

Here's a gif. It's not the best as I was in a hurry, but you get the idea.

:hello:But doesn't this mean that in principle Herm Edwards sorta "broke protocol" since they were sorta trying to run out the clock? People "took knees" then but wasn't the handoff sorta functioning the same as the knee? The common denominator is that they were just trying to run out the clock and everyone assumed the game was over. Then Edwards did what he did. Wouldn't yesterday have been called the Mitchell Miracle? LOL!

This is pretty much exactly how I feel as well. At the same time, I will add that Mike Mitchell has done nothing but get penalized this year.

So you think Tomlin told him to do it? I honestly don't know but I hope someone asks about it today because since rex mentioned it they might ask about it.

I was just going to say the same thing. Pretty sure this is something being coached. Pretty sure Troy's jump wasn't a victory formation though.... rather an offsides jump before the snap. In any case, I haven't seen other teams do it, so yes, I'd say it's bush league..... especially when the clock is under a minute and the game is effectively over. Maybe they should have found a way to play better the first 59 1/2 minutes rather than rely on some crazy shot in the dark that will likely get someone hurt.

It wasn't a "victory formation" but (I can't recall who we were playing) the QB was going to spike the ball and Troy got flagged for offside. Totally unneccesary.

I think I know what happened. I bet someone called down to the field and said "hey coach mitchell doesn't have his token flag for the day" and then Tomlin said "hey mike just go leap over the top!" LOL!
