I know the steelers don't do it and mean joe is the second one? me and a buddy was talking about why they don't. I told him it was probably because we have nowhere to stop. I mean half of those 70's teams deserve it.

I did say I wish they would do bradshaw and he laughed. he thinks not. I was wondering if you could pick one more to do, who would it be?

In all honestly there's gonna be a good case for #7 to be the next one. I can't comment on the 70's teams tho... Too young lol

I was actually thinking about starting a thread about this the other day. If I was gonna retire another jersey I would almost have to say Troy. He's just a one of a kind player that I guarantee you we never see again. I'm not sure I would go so far as to actually do it and even Mel Blount said that only Joe should have his retired but if I were gonna say someone else it would probably have to be Troy. I know he's not EXACTLY what he used to be but he is still a guy that I'm sure qbs fear and in his prime he was easily the best at his position.

I had wanted them to retire the bumble bees, but after the last game, I say keep them around for next year

I would retire Neil O'Donnel's number 14 jersey. I think it actually may be cursed. O'Donnell. Sweed. Nobody should ever have to wear that god forsaken jersey again. Ugh!!!

Yeah that couldn't happen. Obviously Ben has the records but Bradshaw has the rings and that is a big measuring stick for Steelers fans.

You'd retire Webby over Lambert? I could see your point but I think Lambert would probably get the nod over him as far as the franchise is concerned.

Just my opinion of course but yes. Webster played in more Steelers games than any other player in history. Lambert was my favorite Steeler but he played 5 less seasons for the Steelers than Webster did.

Don't get me wrong. You couldn't go wrong with either. It's just that this franchise is so known for defense that I would just expect them to retire a defensive jersey again. We've really been blessed with great center play as well.

I agree you couldn't go wrong with either. Lambert was the baddest man to ever play the game!

That's what I'm saying, Glenn! Think about it. The number is cursed. Why else would Moye have been cut??!!

Yeah Jack but if folks go the wrong idea on retiring them (deric Moye) being the other name in there, you may have to go on the run Haha. Note I thought moye was an ok receiver. Bryand hitting his stride, I see why he was let go

And that was my contention as well. I didn't think he was the second coming of Stalls, but would have liked to have seen him get a few more RZ opportunities. But you're right about Bryant. He's hitting his stride and I'm excited to see what he does the rest of the season. Glenn will be happy to know that Bryant will help ease my pain from the loss of Moye. ;)

Let's see how well they play today first, for this occasion.
Perhaps someone could do a poll, assuming we win today? ;)

Mean Joe is absolutely one of the greatest to ever play the game. He is the Steeler prototype and was the genesis of what became the best team of all time. When we think of the Steeler identity... that which sets us apart... we're thinking of Mean Joe and Co.'s toughness, heart, skill, working man attitude, and determination. He helped shape the culture of the entire organization to this day. He deserved to go first...
    .
The next cut would be tough (no to Bleier or Swann/maybe to Blount or Ham, etc.) but it could be done. Those mentioned by others; like Bradshaw, Lambert, Webster, and Franco are deserving... but there's a less obvious selection whom it would be cool to see the organization honor asap. If only to right a wrong? The Steeler that Canton somehow fails to recognize... the worthy, LC Greenwood.

Or to put it another way, ""I don't know what my career would have been without him," said former defensive tackle Joe Greene, inducted in 1987. "L.C. should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame. Bottom line, he's being cheated."

If the Steelers ever retire a QB's # it should be T.B. He was the man.

After much consideration, I've decided there's no doubt it should be Glen Edwards. DUH! Doesn't everyone feel like a total idiot for not having thought of this?
