Finally had a day off so my wife and I went out. The place we went for dinner and drinks had a special on Bacardi Oakheart and cokes. heh, Fancy that. So I ordered one, which turned into 2, which turned into 6 or 7. Granted, it was in the great equalizer of rum and coke. But I quite enjoyed it. I'd buy it for mixing with coke. Compares very favorably to base Captain Morgan or Kraken.

And BTW, Myron. Since we were out of town, I stopped in the State Store there. They were loaded to the gills with Trace (at least the 750 ml bottles). Speaking of, I've found this website to be fairly accurate as to what's in stock and where:

    http://www.finewineandgoodspirits.c...splay?storeId=10051&catalogId=10051&langId=-1

Find the bottle you want, and they'll locate the store closest to you which has it in stock. I wanted to get Zaya and my local store didn't have it. It said the store north of me had 3. Lo and behold, they had exactly 3 on the shelf. lol (edit: Went and checked for Zaya again out of curiosity. That same store now lists only 1 bottle. I bought the other 2. ;) So it's fairly up to date and accurate)

Checking for 1.75L bottles of Trace, I see a store a 20 minute drive away that has 2 bottles in stock. ;)

Unfortunately for you, the 2 closest stores to you that I found 1.75L bottles of Buffalo Trace were 45-50 miles away. (Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg respectively). You would have better luck with 750 ml bottles. (Over 50 bottles between 2 stores in Wilkes-Barre alone)

I was a tad shocked as well. :lolol:

When it comes to rum, may have to dial back my tastes. Go with mostly mixers, and buy the big bottles. Just went through 2 bottles of a pricier than average rum in 2 nights.

    I regret nothing. :)

Nah. I'm usually a light drinker. But the rum has been extra good to me lately.

And now the lament I've been saying maybe a tad too often the past few weeks: Why is the rum gone?

    Having another rum soaked weekend.

I did take Myron's advice on buying big bottles, and there's no way I'm running out this time. :D

    But...

What happened to my Kraken? It's not the same! Or maybe my taste / taste buds have changed. Picking up on licorice now(?!) and a hint of... mint??? This cannot stand! Neither flavor belongs anywhere near a spiced rum. I'll drink it, of course, but I may end up going to regular Ol' Captain or Sailor Jerry for the big bottles now.

Or maybe the fancier rums just spoiled/ruined me. Captain Morgan Private Stock is still very good. (My 2 brands this week) I'm really almost at the point where I prefer ginger ale (and a touch of lime) to coke for a mixer.

When I did drink, I was a dark rum guy. Never liked the spiced rums. Good old Bacardi Anejo for sipping, or mixing with soda and coke. Mount Gay is very good too.

Yeah, my tastes have started going toward the aged rums. But that can get expensive. :)

Good thing you aren't hooked on tequila! Some of those prices have no basis in reality.

LOL. I love tequila. I refuse to pay 50 or more for a 750ml bottle though.

Speaking of liquors with outrageous prices, about 19 years ago I worked, briefly, for a well known rap record producer and his drink of choice was: Kristal champagne, ($175.00 a bottle), Midori and sweet&sour all mixed up. It was awful!

Yep, really. Of course, that was full retail price. we bought multiple cases and got the price down considerably. When we got to Nassau, the duty free store had the same bottle for $225.00/bottle. All in all, it was cheaper than his other "habits"

I'm going to have to edit my initial reaction to Sailor Jerry.

After the unfortunate change in my tastes rendering Kraken less than desirable, I went and got a big ol' bottle of Jerry. (Because, value. :))

This time around, I'm liking it very much... as a mixer of course. Straight or over ice, it's horrid. But Jerry and Ginger ale or Coke is quite nice. And yes, he does have a pair. ;)

(I currently have about 3 liters of rum in my possession. If I ask "Why is the rum always gone?" on Monday morning, you have my permission to force me into rehab)

Wow! I was kidding with a guess. LOL That's pretty cool.

(Frankly, I think I would have been nervous 24/7 working for him. Seemed like a pretty intimidating guy)
