I don`t mean to throw a wet blanket on how happy we all are, with our most recent draft.
Looks like we did pretty well, but after watching some highlight tapes of our recent picks from college,
Youtube led me to some highlights of the Steelers that actually played here, within the last 3 years, or so...
And got me to thinkin about the turnover of players in the game, nowadays...
Due to free-agency, or age, or whatever...(Contracts, included)...
I just thought it would be interesting to see which players our fans miss the most, and which they are GONNA miss most, when their time comes(Thinking of current players that probably won`t be here much longer).
I`m not gonna set a STRICT criteria on how many years, but, I would say the general guideline would be players who were here within the last 3 to 5 years, not players from the 70`s, 80`s, or 90`s...
Who do you miss most, and who do you think we are gonna miss most within the next 3 years or so?
When I was watching recent highlights, the ones that are gone, that jumped out to me, immediately, were..
    Hines Ward.
    James Harrison.
    Aaron Smith.
    Brett Keisel(Most likely gone).
James Farrior(Mostly because we haven`t replaced what he did... Yet... Shazier, might help, there)...
Mendenhall gets honorable mention, but I think he`s been replaced.
Casey Hampton also gets an honorable mention, but more for what he used to do, than what he did in his last 2 years here.(Sorry if that`s harsh. Loved him, in his prime.)
Intentionally left off the list were...
    Wallace, Faneca, Holmes, Woodley,
    My short term memory sucks.
I`m sure I`ve already forgotten a few that I saw make great plays on the highlight reels I just watched...
Feel free to add to the list.(I`m of the opinion, that running backs are easily replaceable, So, While I believe Dwyer, Redman, etc, were solid contributors, I just don`t miss them that much. They had their chances to show they were "special", and didn`t.),
As for who we are gonna lose soon, I would have to put Polamalou at the top of that list...
The dude is a once in a lifetime player... He has done things that absolutely NOBODY else has ever done, whether I like his tackling style, or not!
No one is irreplaceable, but... You are NEVER GONNA FIND ANOTHER PLAYER, THAT CAN DO WHAT HE HAS!
I would love to be wrong, but I have a real hard time seeing him playing beyond the 2014 season.
If we get 2015 with him, and healthy, I would call it a miracle.
Hopefully, Heath can give us another 3 years or so, But That`s pushin it, and I am DAMN SURE gonna miss him, when he`s gone!!!
Last but certainly not least, How many more years is Ben gonna give us?
I`m thinkin it`s in the 3 to 5 year range, and we are probably gonna miss him, more than anyone else, when he`s gone.
    Thoughts?
Who`d I overlook?, Who do y`all miss, and who are ya gonna miss, when they`re gone?
    GO STEELERS!!!:steelflag:

    lol... NO... he`s back!!!!
And I didn`t even think of Gildon, Lloyd, etc... was trying to "avoid" the 90`s, and keep it more recent...
Yeah, I miss Peazy, and Carnell Lake, glad they are back in the house!!!:herewego!:

I was born in 81 so Imissed the steelers of the 70's so Porter is my favorite steeler that I has ever actually seen play live. I loved the barking because his bite was worse.

I can think of two that I think were big leaders in the locker room and really weren't noticed as much by the fans. faneca and townsend. both had the respect of veterans and rookies coming in. lead by example

Porter, Aaron Smith, Ward and Faneca. Put those 4 guys on this team (in their prime) and we are a SB contender right away

Who`s "OPIE"?... I miss the character from "Sons of Anarchy", too... But, I highly doubt you watch that in the Great White North...
Who had that nickname, on the Steelers?

If I'm going to add a few more, Charlie Batch and Chris Hoke.

There were a lot, and that's why we were winning Super Bowls.

Ward/Hampton/A. Smith/Farrior/Harrison/Keisel/Woodley were recent departures. All of these players were better during their primes than any of their replacements, by a very large margin.
