At least Lewis started the whole season before he left and he showed enough potential to warrant a new deal.

I could be wrong, but I think that's what the post means... Fidgeting around and letting a good player go, like they did Lewis.

Not saying Allen is there yet, but he has potential to be... And would suck if we paraded him around for other teams if he in fact lives up to his capability. It would be nice to avoid a similar situation all over again, but then again it's up to Allen to rep... Tricky situation.

I know this is a "What have you done for me lately?" league, but letting Pouncey walk is just plain dumb. Yes, he was hurt last year, but not because of lack of training, or something stupid outside of the game. He got rolled by his own teammate. And "leveling off" from his first two years, when he was All Pro? Are you kidding?

My biggest fear with Pouncey was that we were going to lose him to a Home Town Discount so he could play with his brother in Miami. After his brother's problems there, though, I don't see that happening, and more likely his brother will give a discount to play here.

For five or six years, I've complained about the offensive line. As has (almost) everyone on this board. We get an All Pro with one season-ending injury, and we're ready to throw him to the wolves because someone else is cheaper. God save us.

one season ending injury? how about the ankles? surgery on both ankles and now a knee. those are pretty critical joints for an under sized center.

remember pouncey played well under 300 lbs. two seasons ago. I'm guessing to keep some weight off the ankles. he didn't have his greatest year that year. we have no idea how he will respond this year after the knee rehab. this is not the time to throw 7-8-9 mil a year at a guy like this for what he did in his first two years that did end without him playing. legursky finished those seasons and Wallace and velasco finished last season. we see we can be 8-8 with or without him.

his situation is not really unlike Woodley's but we have the chance before we throw a bunch of money his way to evaluate the situation, and we should. if we can't afford him after this year then so be it. we may kick around the theory of getting a good LT and moving our swiss army knife into that spot down the road, who knows. he's got the brains and the drive to do it. I'm saying leave the options open and see what happens.

They can wait until late in training camp to sign him if he's recovered by then, he could provide some depth for Pouncey and they could probably sign him cheap.

:this!: Agree about Pouncy and the value he brings. Didn't see 8 million dollar difference between a healthy Pouncy and Wallace.

I hear what everyone is saying but Pouncey could go just about anywhere he wants.

    Perception is reality.

I wouldn't extend Pouncey. He is quite Injury prone. To me he is the most over rated player on the team. Terrible at Blitz pick up. It's kind of like playing Center for the Steelers your almost expected to be good, guys like Mansfield, Webster, Dawson, Hartings. A little like playing QB for the Cowboys, your just expected as good because of the past history.

I know we've had our problems with the offensive line and I for one have been very critical of the group. But do we want to sink that much money into a center? Not that they are not important, but you can't pay every position top dollar.

No way can the Steelers afford to tie up $8 million a season in a Center, not even Maurkice Pouncey.

We could also play Bell at WR and see what LeGarrette Blount can do.

Im on board with this depending on Velscos recovery... However, I'd take Wallace at center and move Pouncey to guard no questions asked. Then see how it plays out as well as Pouncey's asking price down the road.

Curious... certainly I've heard you guys talking about pouncey at guard... has he ever been asked publicly about that?

Also... I would have thought you would want someone beefier at guard. I've heard criticism that pouncey can get bull rushed because of his size... why wouldn't that be more of a concern at guard?

And let's move Ben to TE and see what Landry Jones can do. :lolol:
