The team has announced they've signed DHB to a one year deal.

Best case scenario in terms of salary cap impact after the signing- the team could still have apx. $240,000 in cap space available.

I hope this doesn't take us off the market for a WR in the draft, especially if someone solid like Jordan Matthews is still available in the second round.

I like it. I said yesterday being in role players is fine by me. Will he make a pro bowl? Nope. Will he even make the team? Don't know? What he is gonna do is push for a 3-4 WR in our sets. He will not change the draft day gameplan. I don't see us taking a WR in the 1st unless we trade way down and the FSU WR is down near the late 20s ( Benjamin I believe) DHB only puts Moye on the " show me something quick or your outta here by late August list"

A WR with lousy hands is a drive killer. There's a reason he got benched last season even after Reggie Wayne got injured.

I like it but he could be another Limas Sweed. Or he can resurrect his career under the right tutelage.

Doesn't change our draft plans one iota. If nothing else, DHB will make a great 4.23 decoy to open the middle up for AB, Moore and Heath. And this signing also shows Wheaton and Moye that nothing is going to be given to them, they'll have to earn a spot. I hope our mature WRs coach is someone that can figure out how to get the most out of DHB. All in all, this is not a bad signing for the Steelers.

Interesting signing...not one I saw coming at all. Even when he was scheduled to visit.

Can't help thinking at this stage that this is another Quincy Morgan-type signing, but hoping to be proved wrong.

I find it funny everyone saying, it doesn't change our draft plans. The reality is, this will ALLOW us to do what we want to do at the draft. We won't avoid taking a WR due to this signing, but this will allow the FO to get another position should they feel it is needed more. To me our current roster looks like:

    Ben, Gradkowski, Landry
Bell, Blount, LSH (I think he will be back, but it won't keep us from signing some UDFAs or drafting someone)
Brown, Wheaton, Moore, DHB, Moye or J. Brown
    Heath, Spaeth, Palmer
Beachum, Foster, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert, Adams, Whimper, Wallace, Embernate

McLendon, Fangupo, Thomas, Heyward, Arnfelt, N. Williams
    Jones, Worilds, Moats, Carter
Timmons, V. Williams, Garvin, Spence, Wilson
    C. Allen, Gay, Ike, McCain , Blake, Green
Troy, Mitchell, Sharmarko, W. Allen, Golden

This leaves 2 roster spots open, probably DLine and RB, but we have a guy for each spot. Are we happy with all of them? No, but this is the way the Steelers work. Put a guy in place who we could live with. Eliminate the needs as best you can allowing you to go just about any direction you want at the draft. They have pretty much done that IMO.

Where did this silliness come from? We're free to draft who we want because we signed a lousy WR? Why, because we couldn't sign one after the draft if we needed one? There a limited supply of crappy WRs and we didn't want to risk heading into camp without one?

But there's not too many crappy WRs with 4.23 speed!

They always take BPA in the first and could be said of the 2nd. Not only does it send a message of nothing is guaranteed but also let's the rookies know they must fight also.

At the start of the season we will have the best 50 or so dressing. That's all that matters. I'll be more concerned when some of the rookies, or 2nd year guys, we draft don't push out someone like DHB. Competition is a good thing.
That being said I don't care for DHB but I'll take the signing for competitive reasons.

Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle, the speed is there as you pointed out. Also, I was very impressed with our new WR coach last year, maybe Mann can elevate his game

Anyway, barely cost them anything, it's not like they cant cut him if he's stinking out the joint.
