If you would've said they gotta eat bacon, then you would've had me at bacon.

Maybe if Keisel drops his agent and negotiates for himself, he can split the agent's % with the team and get a deal done...

My expectation is that they team doesn't think there is a whole lot of outside interest to pay Keisel more than the vet minimum and so they are good to wait until after the draft or even after June 1st to sign him.

And I'd say that's a prudent, calculated risk. Kiesel is 36 yrs old and his body did show some signs of wearing down last season. Teams aren't going to be clamoring to sign him.

Saying he will retire before playing for min wage, is the same thing Jared Allen said before he signed with the bears for 32 mill: If you look at BKs career stats his stats for last year in tackles and sacks was about average for his career, in fact his 4 sacks was above average for a lot of his seasons, he did start 12 games last year so it wasn't like he missed most of the season I don't see anyone on this roster that could replace him at this point....

I never intended it to mean he could get that kind of money because he flat out wont get more than a 1 or 2 year deal no matter where he goes, I was just saying he was using jared allens line, we could sign him for 1 year at 2 mill most likely, he can still play at a high level for another year or two, his sack numbers last year was higher than it was in 5 of his last 7 years as a starter, and his tackle average is about the same, based on his numbers and experience he is the logical choice at the end position for next year at a cheap price........

The Steelers have the leverage no other team is going to offer Kiesel much more than the vet minimum, once June comes around and he has no offers he will lower his demands.

    Or he might just retire.

We might need him more than he needs us. That's leverage too.

Unless you're a QB, that is never the case. And even then, only if the team is close to winning a championship. Players are replaceable. Million dollar jobs ... not so much.

Urlacher retired last year rather than playing for $1 to $2 million. He had minimum contract offers but decided to retire. Not worth it when you have $10 million in the bank to put your body through hell again.
