I was hoping James struck the deal prior to the bungles he was coming off 2012 a much improved player . He surely proved to the world he struggles in the 4-3 . My concern @ 35 do we want /need younger blood or see if he can give us a couple more productive yrs. I don't want this to be sited as a reunion but rather a good business decision. If the Steelers give him the opportunity to return then so be it. I will support the unleashing of the pittbull in the 3-4 once again can only be a plus for the Curtain along with depth.

it could help with insight on the Bengals too

they did win the division last year.

was gonna say sumthin about ginger snap but that was a Woodley thing and now in hindsight he must have meant the snack and not their qb

It is funny how just one player can have such a ripple effect on a team. If Harrison took the paycut last season or the FO restructured his deal it would have had some far reaching affects. I think Woodley would have had a better year, they don't necessarily draft Jarvis, Worilds sees the field less and maybe doesn't get tagged, Woodley isn't cut this year and so on. It is an interesting study in what ifs

    No point in trying
to understand some fans. I guess results are all just smoke and mirrors. Gay must have traded jerseys with someone else.. LOL

Lot's of people crying about wanting younger players.

Were you also crying about wanting to replace Aaron Smith towards the end of his run? How about when we won Super Bowl 40 with ancient starters like Jeff Hartings, Alan Faneca, Marvel Smith on the oline...Kemo Von Olofen (I have no idea how to spell his name), Willie Williams as a starting corner. A bunch of old guys starting. Same thing with Super Bowl 42.

If this was like.....Max Starks, then sure. But this is James Harrison....a James Harrison that lost a step is still more valuable as a backup than a draft backup that would end up getting cut eventually anyways.

One year deal, at/close to vet minimum.
He wouldn't be taking any young guys spot, because the young guys are already starting, or roster spots accounted for.

He may even teach some of these young guys 'whatever it takes'!

A 36 year old LB used as a "bandaid" because we are in dire straits for a body? No thanks. I like the guy but this team is in rebuild mode, so I don't see James fitting the mold. There's a reason he was allowed to walk last year, and sat around looking for work. He is not the player he was 5 years ago. He'll Brett Favre is better than any backup we have as of today, why don't we sign him to mentor the others.........

He was let go over financial reasons, if they thought he had nothing to offer, they would have just cut him outright.

You are barking up the wrong tree Blast. Your point will be shrugged off as front office sentimentality and that he really was washed up. They will then turn to the same old tired routine he is selfish and washed up.

He walked due to money and age. FO wasnt gonna give him what he wanted because he wSnt worth it. Regardless, we are going forward, and I don't see Harrison as a piece of the puzzle. If Keisel and Harrison are on this team come fall, we are in trouble!

I disagree, they would be good depth, wouldn't be starting, if they are starting, it means the guys in front of them aren't good enough, then we are in trouble! Both guys would be gone next season, allowing whoever we draft to step in. It's a good stop gap. Just for ****s and giggles, JH didn't do quite as bad as people are making it out to be, didn't do bad at all:

Harrison played 383 snaps, or about 37 percent of all those played by the Bengals defense. He graded out at a plus-8.4 in Pro Football Focus’ player grades, including an above-average 10.7 as a run defender. He was minus-3.0 as a pass rusher.

Harrison’s final stats line: two sacks, three QB hits, 14 QB hurries, 25 tackles and only three missed tackles.

Can't agree. Harrison and Keisel would help mentor a younger front seven. They can be had for cheap and will add a lot more than 2 late round draft picks or cheap FA's. They have performed at the highest level and have superbowls under their belt. Don't underestimate how much they can influence the culture of the team.

I think Gay traded Jerseys with Clark, if Gay looks good that just tells us how much help we need in the backfield, hopefully Mitchell will be the first patch

Stats dont lie Jim. Gay had good numbers and was the surest tackler on this defense.

I never wanted him to be traded to Arizona and I am glad he is back.

I totally agree with getting Harrison back at the right price, my only worry is that back up LB'S are usually needed to contribute on special teams. Do you think he's willing/able to do that at this stage of his career?
