Glad to hear he feels that way.
Sorry I missed "Steeler Dynasty Week".
We`ll see if it happens. I would certainly be in favor of it, although I know others feel differently.
    GO STEELERS!

Of course he wants to return he's desperate no other 3/4 team is interested in him. Besides it doesn't mean the team is interested in him, I think they will wait until after the draft to make a decision.

If he'd take on a backup/mentor role, bring him in on the first flight. Not only can he still fit the bill as a situational pass rusher (probably - even if he is a shell of his former self, that shell was freaking huge), but he was a dominant run stopper. He knows the D. We have zero depth. Bring him in. It will also lessen the need for an OLB in the draft this year, if only for a year.

How could you even debate this...bring his a$$ in first thing in the morning (assuming he will play for the right amount)!

I thought the goal was to get younger and faster on defense? lets say we bring him back for one more year. what does that do? it takes a spot from a younger guy who might see the field sooner if he isn't behind and I am sorry to say this, a washed up olb. people fuss about the front office hanging on to these vets to long I think as fans its also time to move on

we have our starters in place though. a younger guy does little to help this year, with field time or helping JJ learn the position better. if jj goes down we have a still capable LB to play that spot. it wasn't so much he was washed up but the money at the time. we still have a spot we could put a young guy too. carters, if the young guy can beat him out, if not carter is still young. we have already gotten younger at both OLB spots.

I presume you mean mentor by performance/work ethic, rather than soft words of gentle and inspiring encouragement...

Love James, but I don't think he's worth a roster spot. I'd rather a young guy who's riding oine, but will learn, get better and be a long term contributor. Take the emotion out of it, he won't make us any better than a rookie would.

Problem is, if our top backup is some young guy who isn't any good, then that hurts the team. If we go into the season with Carter or someone similar as the top backup and then Worilds or Jones gets hurt... we are screwed. Right now we have no one that's given us reason to believe they can play. There is room for like 10 LBs on the team. Using one of the backup spots on a good backup isn't a waste, it's responsible. There is plenty of space for future on the roster as well.

This is his home and here he needs to be. Period. I also hate the " he's a shell of his former self" statement.

Is JH the All-Pro or DPOY he once was? No. He is however mentally the sharpest tool in the box and Physically he may not be as fast but he's still silverback and still works out everyday. His fire is still lit and the Blast furnace needs all the fire it can get.

His role: Stop saying as a role player/mentor. His job is to compete for the ROLB spot and if he wins then its his and if JJ beats him out then its as a back-up. If he comes in saying " I'll be a back-up" then he needs to stay away. I want someone to fight and compete for the starting role and we as fans should want him to do the same and not instantly assign him the "mentor" title.

Fans want to give Holmes the credit for bringing us another Trophy but to me if it weren't for Harrison's Greatest defensive TD in Superbowl History we probably wouldn't have that Trophy.

    Bring Him BACK!!!!!

Edit: as a backup I would take him...not as a starter...

Well yeah. I was kind of skipping the necessary competitive mentality and jumping straight to the realism. And trust me, whether or not he starts is something they discuss before a contract is signed. Yes they can tell him he can compete, and that might be true, but if they don't give him realistic expectations ("we just drafted a good ROLB #17 overall last year, and he's already on the old side for a 2nd year player, and we are going to get him on the field, and there's a good chance he'll wind up the starter, and if you're around we expect you to support him and not be a Favre about it") then they run the risk of having a disgruntled James Harrison around. I, for one, don't want to see that.

And if he accepts that he may well be the #3 guy, I don't think that means he needs to stay away anymore than I think Bruce Gradkowski should stay away. I doubt he thinks he's competing with Ben this year, and that's okay. I trust James to give 100%, even if he accepts a backup role. I also don't think there's anything wrong with being a mentor, regardless of if you're starting. The guy will be 36 1/2 this season. It's a fair expectation.

Bruce is playing behind a future HOF QB STILL at the top of his game in Big Ben. Much different than a former DPOY LB competing against a LB coming off a disappointing ROOKIE season.

James is a pro. He'll compete hard and give 100% and if JJ beats him out I have all confidence he'll support JJ and help in the film room, practice field and on game days.

I also feel many fans watched his season in Cincy and think JH is a shell of his self. That's just wrong. The 3-4 OLB is different than the 4-3 OLB. Freeny from 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB was also a failed transition.

I just want him back and I don't see a scenario where it would be a bad thing.

If they bring useless tools like William Gay back then James should be welcomed back with open arms.
