Priority number one is CB they need to draft 2 CB's and a safety. Also a WR preferably a big WR and they need another ILB and OLB and somehelp on the D-line. They need to find a long term answer at LT. They will most likely have 9 draft picks after the compensatory picks are awarded so they should be able to fill all their needs.

This list pretty much sums it up to me. The only part I don't see us filling in the draft is a long term answer at LT unless we get someone round 1 (which I don't see us doing). I think all the rest should be found in the draft very easily, with maybe a FA or two sprinkled in.

Still praying they trade down a couple spots, get an extra 2nd or 3rd and go from there. Def need an immediate day one CB. Don't feed me the DL is complicated crap, just get somebody that can at least be within 5 yards of a WR and that would be an instant improvement.

We'd have to trade down to the early-mid 20's in order to acquire a possible 2nd rd pick.

I actually agree with you, somewhat, it just depends who is there @ 15. If Mack/Barr is there we must make the pick. If Robinson or Gilbert is there we must make the pick.

With the depth of this draft we could get a solid guy in rd 1 even down to the mid 20's and with 3 picks in the next two rds would provide some really top quality to this roster.

a lot depends on what we decide to do with the defensive scheme. we have some guys in place that could make it work much better for us in year two. I could see guys like dion bailey a SS/ILB type being drafted to eventually take over the role troy played in this scheme or package last year. he's perfect for it. or these smaller(or I should say lighter more mobile) ILB types in this draft similar to garvin. the larger safety ILB types. 218-225 range guys that can run some.

I believe some changes from what used to be our base okie type system players types are going to change. I also think our NT and DE type players we were used to before will change some. guys like ziggy, mclendon, woods, heyward and arnfelt would be a better fit than keisel and Williams. it also makes guys like Woodley teamed with worilds as more of a new style DE's then we are used to in our base 3-4. OLB skills with size enough to rush as 4-3 DE's in this package. we have a good mix for this right now.

I couldn't disagree more. First off our use of a hybrid ILB/SS type in this sub package defense was born out of necessity due to the cascading failure of several positions from ILB ( foote/vince) CB ( Ike) FS ( Clark) & OLB play overall due to injurys and rookie.

We will NOT be moving forward with that defense.

Draft needs----- It all depends own who we resign of course but some needs won't change.

CB is the top need. Safety is probably need #2. After that we'll need to address the WR/OT/RB positions.

A case can be made for OLBer. NT is not the need kipper and others are projecting. Neither is TE.

how does keeping Woodley, getting rid of clark and getting rid of foote make it not needed now? and ike if we do? will JJ all of a sudden give us a pass rush? will Williams be able to cover Te's or RB's now? will troy be able to cover slot receivers or the over the top deep half of the field? will a rookie CB be locked up on the #1 receiver or the #2 right out of the gate or will we rely on gay to do that now? I'm not sure I see where we have fixed all this by who we have kept and gotten rid of so far?

So many questions, so little time.

The Woodley and Ike saga has yet to be settled so to speak on them moving forward would be presumptuous. JJ should be better this year technique wise and should have gained some size & strength. Worilds will do what he does, attack the QB. Allen will replace Clark. We'll draft a solid cover corner. Spence is going to be the surprise. So may Garvin.

Our hopes are: Heyward-McLendon-Woods on the DL
    : Worilds-Timmons-Spence/Garvin-Woodley LBer corp.
: Allen-Gilbert as corners with Gay as Nickle and Ike 4th CB
: Troy back SS/Rover and W. Allen @ FS with Shark as Primary Back-up

we are replacing keisel and ziggy with woods.

we are replacing Woodley with worilds.

we are replacing JJ with Woodley.

we are replacing Williams with spence and garvin.

we are replacing ike with a rookie.

we are replacing clark with will allen.

    I see.:rolleyes::cool:

I guess you'd prefer to keep the NFL's near worse CB ( Ike ) in place and keep our most overrated while least effective pass rushing OLBer ( JJ) as a starter while stifling the effectiveness of our best defensive player ( Troy ) by moving him from SS to MLBer.

You want to keep clark? Who at this point I can out run.

If not then just exactly how are you going to fix the worse defense we've fielded in recent memory?

I like what you did for the most part with your potential line up. I would love to see Spence look good enough to start for us this year, but if not Garvin is looking like a really good consolation prize, can't count Williams out either. I personally would rather see a little more youth in there in terms of replacing Allen with Thomas and Woodley with Jones. I think both of those younger guys will be better than their older counterpart come week 1... Then, Ill trade back in the first round to pick up another second and take Fuller, Van Noy and Moncrief. Boom. (obviously in this scenario Fuller would start where you have Gilbert)

I agree with all of this except for Barr. I am 90% sure that he WILL be available at #15, and the thought of drafting him makes me nervous. He is a serious boom or bust prospect. When I sat down to watch film on him, I was expecting to see way more quality play than I saw based on his stats and the hype.

We don't want another Bruce Davis the last UCLA OLB the Steelers drafted.

Just don't see Barr at 15, and I don't see us taking him if there is a top 2 DB still there. Mack will go top 8 with Barr behind him by 12

I'd be all over that if he's @ 15. Not my #1 guy, but would be totally fine taking him. If our DC couldn't find a use for that athleticism then something would be seriously wrong.

As per Dulac, when asked if Woods would be better a choice at NT then McLendon:

"Perhaps. All I know is they think they have to do something at nose tackle to fix their run defense."

Take it for what it's worth, but don't be so sure they won't address it at some point.

Nobody should be planning on Spence being there, you look at him as an added bonus if he can play, you don't figure him into your plans.

I don't think that would be the case. Barr is a vastly superior athlete to Bruce Davis. It's really not even close. However, it seems to me that he has a long way to go to actually have enough functional NFL strength to go head to head with an NFL OT, and I'm not sure he'll ever be worth the 15th overall pick. In fact, I'm so concerned about his strength that I see him as a 4-3 weak side LB. He is athletic enough to play that spot, and he wouldn't need to nearly as strong to be successful.

I knew he was going to run something great, he is such a gifted athlete. I absolutely loved him in the Scarlet and Grey. He certainly has the upside of being an every down LBer for us w/ use in sub-packages.

Since the KC/MT regime the Steelers seem unable to evaluate the CB and OL positions. The Steelers do well @the LB
WR process. Steelers defense is predicated
off the LB play, JMO,I see a lb in play @ a high draft selection.

I think there definitely could be a chance of it. foote is gone and so is sly and yes garvin and Williams played pretty well, but I'm not sure up to full time starter strength, but definitely backup and rotational. I agree about not planning on spence for much this year and we could certainly upgrade carter. behind them we have dan molls whom I liked last year as an UDFA but still not a starter. we could upgrade even if we keep Woodley for the year and worilds still isn't signed past this year. I wouldn't cry about a shazier, van noy or mosley.
