The Steelers announce that they have cut Levi Brown, Curtis Brown, And Larry Foote. The three cuts, combined with the savings from Troy and Heath's extensions should have the team under by 3/11 with Worilds' transition tag.

Right now it looks like 4.872 over the cap...a simple AB restructure will get us under...

Edit: thats not counting the Troy extension or the Ike looming deal

Very happy to see foote go. Don't understand the love, he's consistently abysmal in pass D, and was outplayed by our 6th rounder Vince Williams for goodness sake.

We can definitely upgrade over Foote, but I don't believe he was outplayed by Williams. I do believe that in time Williams will turn out to be a solid player, much like Foote.

he wasn't that great anymore lately, but I guess others like me remember his good times (and the other old warriors like Keisel, Hampton, Aaron Smith, Peezy ... the list goes on and on) and are nostalgic

The FO has done an absolutely terrific job fighting our cap situation. If we get a long term deal for Worilds, do something with Ike, restructure AB and/or Timmons, and possibly extend Ben, we will have a really good amount of cap space (and that's without doing anything with Woodley).

We can use that money on a starter along our D-Line in FA and get some good depth at other positions. It also moves FS down our draft board, ILB up a little, and CB way up. I'd be shocked now if Gilbert, Fuller, or Dennard wasn't our first round pick.

We are way too thin at OLB for cutting Woodley.

Don't think Larry will draw much interest. I hope we resign him for less Money

So you want to pay a guy 14 million dollars to ride the bench or be hurt? You don't keep him at that rate because we need depth. Depth can be signed or drafted at a much cheaper rate.

i dont think people realize it will cost them more in cap space to cut him than to keep him on the roster....

although if they cut him it will save about 25 mil in cash over the next 3 yrs

You are correct. If we cut Woodley post June 1st I know we save around 7 million? By the time we cut Woodley and sign another guy what are we saving, a few million? At least with Woodley if he's healthy WR have a stud at the position.

My guess is Worilds will start on the left and Woodley on the right with Jones coming in off the bench. If they're to let Woodley go we have one OLB that showed almost nothing last year and another that played well for 10 games. After that we have nothing.

This makes sense to me. I just can't decide wether or not I think the Steelers will let him go.
I thought they'd keep Foote at least till they seen what Spence could do, was wrong about that.

Maybe you're not counting Heath's savings?
