Stats don't mean everything, but when you look at stats over a full season, they do give you a good high level view of how competitive a player is. Taylor's stats confirm what my eyes told me: he is declining sharply. He's not the best corner on our team, and probably won't be second best next season with another offseason of aging under his belt. I would keep him if he takes a major pay cut, but there's no way I keep him at his full scheduled 2014 salary.

Also, with respect to choosing Taylor over Lewis. Maybe that happened, but from things that I had read last year the Steeler may have had no chance of keeping Lewis short of either overpaying him or using the tag. From what I read, he really wanted to play for his hometown Saints.

unfortunately woodley doesn't save any .. if cut immediately he will count even more in the cap if cut after june will save 5 milion now but you carry the dead weight of 4 milion next year too. the thing that i completely don't understand is why we kept sanders and left the 3rd on the table , knowing we would have left him anyway we lost 2,5 milion for panic and a pick , that money would have been carried to this year cap if not spended elsewhere .

How many of those TD's were given up during the Detroit game? I'm just wondering if you took away his two worst performances if those stats are glaringly different or are they still similar? Point being, Ike may not be who he once was, but did the coaches do a good enough job identifying that he was struggling on any particular Sunday and give him more help? With Troy playing ILB, and a non-existent pass rush, I wonder how much that hurt him.

Yes, coaching could have helped him look better, the players around him could have helped him look better, a pass rush could have helped him look better. They can't make him any better tho. Why hold on to an aging guy that is only effective if he is getting help from the scheme and has a great pass rush? We can just cut him and find someone capable of sucking for less. Or we can try to draft someone the we think can play better than him.

Ike was a really good corner throughout his career in the Burgh. He just isn't anymore. I can't find one good reason to keep him around and pay him starter money if he is incapable of performing at that caliber. Allen and Gay has the same scheme, the same players surrounding them, and the same weak pass rush. They did better than Ike. Yes, Ike faced better receivers... but they took him off the #1's because he wasn't getting it done.

It's time. Cut him and take the money. Simple as that.

expecially in a year that the list of free agent cbs is long like a bible , i suspect if you really want taylor you can cut him and sign back in june at the vet minimum .

    Has he declined? Yes. Slightly.
Should he take a paycut? Yes.
Should we cut him out right without trying to lower his salary first? NO!!!
If we cut Taylor that leaves us with just Gay and Allen as our corners. That is a huge unknown and liability. The smarter mover is to keep Taylor on the team another year, he can easily be our #2 or nickel corner, and then draft an early CB to Groom to make losing Ike less painful the following year.

Alternatively we could cut Ike and sign an upper to mid-level free agent CB that is starter quality, but when was the last time that has worked out or even happened for the Steelers at the CB position? Most CB from other teams don't play like Steelers CB's. It is a huge adjustment and a big risk.

For me, this would pretty much be the ideal situation.

I don't know if it's the old B&G glasses on, but I can't see Ike willingly leaving - so perhaps this scenario isn't too far out of the question. For one thing, if other teams are picking on him so much, it's unlikely that anyone else is going to offer him a colossal salary...

This, here, is the strategy we should follow. Give this man a job in the FO immediately!

CB and OL are the 2 positions where
our evaluaters/scouts have a very hard time.
Just a quick question, in the last 3 years
has KC/MT improved this team in any area's?

Taylor needs a paycut but honestly he is left 1v1 against the other team's best corner more than anyone else in the NFL. Darrelle Revis is the only other player I can think of who is used similarly (though I don't watch a lot of other teams).

Ike had a bad season and will need more help going forward but if he could catch a ball he would have been paid 12 M per year by another team and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Ike had an amazing career having been drafted in the 4th round.

If Ike gets cut it is because he is too expensive not because he can't play.

Not saying he is the best corner in the league but the man who gets that credit (Sherman) has 2 all-pro safeties forcing opposing QBs to throw short to intermediate routes, and NEVER shadows the other team's top receiver.

Wow that is a big improvement of the team
    in the past 2-3 years.

You asked whether there had been improvements in any areas. So there's one. It wasn't intended as an exhaustive list.

Obviously, if you want examples of specific areas, it won't show a "big improvement of the team", because the team is all those areas put together, and that isn't the question you asked originally.
