He was targeted 113 times and gave up 71 receptions for 1043 yds and 6 tds with no ints. By the end of last season Ike was no longer covering the opponents best WR. It's time to move on release him and take the 7 million in savings on the salary cap.http://www.postgazette.com/sports/steelers/2014/02/16

I have a hard time believing he was the worst. I said this on another thread, but our pass rush and safeties felt like " the worst" and as a result made Ike look bad.

If we get rid of Ike we will need someone who can step in and play day one at CB. Steelers don't prefer to let rookies come in and start and we don't have cap room to sign a guy.

I'm praying he agrees to a pay decrease. It would be the best possible scenario.

what was most disturbing to me is our db's were so high on the list of tackles. this is not good and this is also not on the db's. as I've said before our LB'ers are not up to our standards. to much pressure has been put on our db's to cover the passing game and the run game and this is the biggest indicator of making them look worse then they are. this is also where seattle's DB's are made to look better then they might be. they have pressure and good LB play in front of them. it's a must. I've said it before and believe that until we get our front 7 fixed our db's are going to look bad no matter who we put back there.

Consistent safety play and a decent pass rush would make the CB's look a lot better.

run stopping is part of it too. clark had 106 tackles last year. our db's were all right near the tops on the team in tackles last year. that's the d-line and LB'ers job. lot's of pressure put on the db's in that scenario.

Keep in mind up until the last 1/4 of the season Ike was covering the other teams best receiver.

I think it is Woodley. Trade him if you can't get anything for him, cut him. I think he decided he makes too much to be cut and is just lazing around. Damn sure ain't made many plays in the last few years

I don't care who we have back there. its hard to cover when the guy can run 7 yrds and catch a pass cause you line up 10 yrds off of him and backpedal at the snap

That's the thing I question. Does it warrant a 1st round pick if the player can't do what he does best?

I think that's the reason we draft CB's in the mid rounds. We don't covet what these top CB's bring to the game IMO.

the question is we play like this because we have poor cbs or the cbs are poors because we play like this ?

    I think this.

It's been Lebeau's scheme for a long time though. Add to that inconsistent pressure on the QB and you have the making of some bad CB play. JMHO

Cut all players on defense over the age of 30. Time to purge. Ike had a bad year because he is now a bad player. He is too old and is only going to get worse. There was a time when he was good, but that time is over.

Yeah! Cut Troy immediately and put in Jordan Dangerfield - he can't possibly be worse! After all, we all know that age is the best determinant of player ability...

    Stats, smats!

Regardless of some of the bads games and such he had...and what the stupid stats above claim...theres no way he was the worst in the league!

I think he'll probably take a pay cut this year...if not he'll be gone though.

ask yourself this question. are we a better defense with or without ike? he puts himself in good positions most of the time only problem is he cant catch a cold. I am on the fence but with the young corners in this draft who are said to be nfl ready. I say cut him and lets move on. unless he is willing to take a major cut and I would say he isnt

Troy isn't worth what we have to pay him now, Ike even more so. Need that money for better, younger players in free agency.

There is a reason why Ike was targeted so much. The DCs on the other teams has noticed his decline and weaknesses and has decided to attack him and they did that with success. Our only defense to this onslaught was to remove Ike from the responsibility of guarding their #1 which he has always done.

Some say fix the DL or fix the LB or S and Ike will look better. I say Ike is finished as our top CB. He just doesn't have it any more. He may still have a year left in him here as a nickel back.

We made a huge mistake hanging on to him and letting Lewis slip away. The FO was just TOO Loyal.

We must draft the top CB in this draft because Ike is finished and allen has a injury history and Gay is more of a nickel back than a full time starter.

Yes, it is definitely time to cut ties with Ike. 7mil is just too much money for our FO to pass up with our cap situation the way it is. We are 10mil over the cap. Levi Brown getting cut will help us out almost 7mil. Woodley 8mil. That leaves us 5mil for our 2014 free agency if we keep Ike as is. That will not cut it. If Ike is back, that means Worilds will probably not be.

Under only one scenario do I see Ike in the B&G next year... His current cap hit is like 11mil, cut saves us 7mil and gets us to 4mil dead money (give or take). Ike comes back as the 4th corner (depth only) if and only if he takes a pay cut that brings his base salary under the 4mil dead money, thus saving us more $$ than cutting him.
