A stats company posted this early. We all know stats only tell part of the story...

This kills me. The guy's job was to get the TD and the short yardage. He wasn't the flashy 40+ yard run guy!

Early reports were right! Strahan? Really? In his second year he gets in? everyone knows a few of those sacks were gimmies!

I have a feeling that this will become routine for about 3, 4 or 5 yrs. Just hope it doesn't go the way of LC Greenwood. Everyone thought he would be a shoe in but now it will be post mortum at best.

I don't think Bettis gets the same treatment but I really think he will be snubbed at least a half dozen times.

Read a thing the other day that said many had him going in next year. If he is good enough to go in next year then he should have gone in this year.

If he's good enough to get in, he should have been 1st ballot. 2nd at worst. It's become a crime.

But Williams is first ballot????? Sapp was too????? bullllllllllllshiiiiii......

Loved the Bus, but not sure he's a HOFer. Only had 2 or 3 above average seasons. Yes, he accumulated good career numbers and I guess that counts for something, but he's well below some of the all time greats.

Exactly. Bettis is one of my favourite players of all time, but he's definitely not a lock to be in the HOF. At no time was he really the best. He was consistently good, but never really stood out above everyone else.

Sapp is absolutely a HOF'er. The guy was at one time the most dominant player in football. I'm sorry but Bettis doesn't get in ahead of Sapp.

    He didn't.
6th most yards for a RB in the NFL? Pretty impressive for a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" guy!

    Damn right.
I don't know if he stood out above everyone else, but he sure stood out above most.

Sapp spent the majority of his career living off the laurels of 2 good seasons. Dominant my ass. And Sapp is going to have the audacity of questioning Strahan's credentials? Pot>kettle>black. I put Strahan in well before I even let Sapp sniff the doorway.

The 5 guys above Bettis and the six guys beneath him are all in the hall already (or in LT's case, is a first ballot shoe in). Something does not compute.

For that matter, what's the damned hold up for Dirt Dawson? Quick: name 3 centers in the history of the NFL arguably better than him. <crickets>

Yet Ogden goes in first ballot. Walter Jones this year. Deserved? I'd say so. But would anyone call either of them one of the 3 best to EVER play his position???

Aeneas Williams was a fine CB. Arguably deserves to be in the Hall. He had a great career. But first ballot? Over some guys still waiting??? When people have a conversation about the best CBs of all time, how often is Williams part of the conversation? NEVER. Hell, he wasn't even the best CB of his generation.

I suppose the Steelers will have to get to the Superbowl next year. It seems as if the Hall likes to get guys in when their former team is playing that weekend....

If you win a SB ring, win NFL Rookie of the Year, win NFL Comeback player of the year, retire 5th all time, are still 6th all tme, make 6 Pro Bowls, 2 All Pro teams, get named Team MVP 3 times, out rush at least 4 HOF RBs who also played their entire careers in a 16 game season, is the only eligible RB left in the all time top 10 rushing leaders who is not in the HOF, the other being LT who is not yet eligible, meaning the other 8 are in, rush for a thousand yds 8 times, then I don't know what else he needs to do.

I agree with all of this completely.

Aeneas Williams, in particular, is a headscratcher for me.

Apparently he's one of the top CB's ever!

Everyone says stats. He gets stats. Then they say stats aren't everything, name one guy that had a nickname that everyone including non-football fans know! Go to anyone and they know the Bus!

I read that each candidate for the HOF is "presented" to the voters and then a debate ensues, and that this presentation can carry some weight. Who presents Bettis' case?
