I've never seen anything like it. We got 1.5 inches of snow and the city is paralyzed. There are still kids stuck on school buses, cars have been abandoned all over the place. To make matters worse it won't get above freezing until Thursday.

We sneeze at 1.5 inches here. That sucks though, I feel for those people stuck, especially the kids.

I had this feeling it was going to be bad and left work at 12. The roads were clear of snow at that point and it still took 75 minutes to drive 4 miles. On a positive note the outpouring of support from the community has been impressive. People are opening up their homes and businesses to get those stranded out of the cold.

I read people who lived along those who are stranded would bring food and drinks, I thought that was pretty cool.

I just don't get it. It was an inch of snow, right? I read one account of a person driving 10 hours from work and it was 9 miles. They said it was like a frozen zombie movie. All I could think of was TWD when I saw the pictures of abandoned cars everywhere.

There are multiple factors involved. It wasn't much snow, but it turned to ice with a quickness. The street in front of my condo is a skating rink. It also doesn't help that the majority of these clowns can't freaking drive. Most of us were taught to drive according to road conditions here the drivers just continuing driving 80mph, tailgaiting, and blocking intersections. The blocking intersections is a major problem. They just don't seem to understand that doing so has a snowball effect.

The truckers didn't help matters at all either. Atlanta has enough hills that the 18wheelers couldn't make it up the inclines and created these bottlenecks. They're showing scenes where there are 20-40 tractor trailers blocking the highways. The DOT is doing what they can by towing the tractor trailers out of the way, but it's one at a time and there are hundreds spread across metro atlanta.

Wow, that's just unreal. I didn't even realize there was ice involved. That would definitely make things ugly in a hurry. I lived in Virginia when I was a kid, and if it snowed even a dusting, it was bedlam.

You guys don't have sand or salt trucks at all, right?

We've got them, but the Georgia DOT really screwed the pooch on this one. It appears that instead of being proactive and getting a head start they waited. Of course by that point it was too late as all of the bridges etc were iced over and littered with accidents. Then the salt/sand trucks couldn't get to where they needed to be.

Also, poor coordinating, businesses and schools let out at the same time. The whole sordid thing was a perfect storm.

News report stated there were just under 1,000 accidents yesterday and police were only responding to those involving more than 2 vehicles.

We got a surprise snow yesterday that pretty much shut everything down. They had expected it to miss us and hit the deeper south and the Carolinas but we wound up with probably 3 or 4 inches of snow. My buddy posted a pic of the food city in our town that has a gas station in its parking lot and a car was coming down the hill in to the parking lot and couldn't stop and hit another car and knocked it in to a gas pump and tore the whole thing out of the ground! I don't know how in the world it didn't blow up!

Well the south is not really equipped to deal with snow and the people who live in the more rural areas never get their roads salted because they only do that for the state roads and this one snuck up on them and they didn't have the salt out in advance. I know it must baffle people up north because they are so used to snow but down here it's not all that common. My dad lived in Chicago his first 12 years and would get tons of snow and it was just a way of life and then when he moved here he would get out of snow for less than and inch and just couldn't believe it. But back roads are EXTREMELY dangerous down here. I'm with you though in thinking that it SOUNDS absolutely crazy. I probably won't be able to get out of my driveway in my car for at least 2 days.

We had a bad one here a couple of years ago and they would only respond if there were injuries. What was crazy though was when I was on my way home and I was using the interstate leaving work and the truckers were just FLYING down the interstate! I bet they are the ones that cause more accidents than anybody really.

The Governor and the Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools made the claim that this was unexpected as well. Although, every weather report I've seen in the last week called for 1-3" of snow.

What's funny is down here the local channels are 6,8, and 10 and my mamaw made supper yesterday and I walked across the yard to eat and about the time I set down the channel 8 news came on and the main anchor said "well you might've noticed we got some snow today and now here's the ONLY local meteorologist to get it right!" and then they cut straight to him and I was like "oh man they're talking smack and giving him major weatherman street cred!" LOL. But I had been checking the forecast for here and even the Weather Channel had us as only getting cold weather with like a 30% chance of maybe a little snow but nothing crippling. But that one weatherman had apparently predicted this whole thing and nobody believed him. They'll believe him next time! HA!

All of the above sounds just like San Diego when it rains! Good thing we don't get snow!

We get snow sometimes in the mountains to the east. The last time I heard of it snowing in the city limits was in 1967. It actually stuck to the ground for a few minutes!

Not this year, hence, our drought. Rain is forecast for tomorrow morning so, there will be dozens of accidents, delayed flights and likely flooding.

We're supposed to get 1/4 inch!

Man that's really beautiful. My buddy went to Comic Con a few years ago because his sister is an aspiring actress and lives out there. She stands in front of the Chinese Theater dressed as Wonder Woman and bumming money from people but she got him some really sweet passes to the show. He said that San Diego is one of the most awesome looking cities he has ever seen. He said it's like a stairway that just literally descends right in to the Pacific Ocean. Those guys are crazy though! There are Great Whites out there right?!

But I'm sure those nuts still get out there in that water though don't they? I can't imagine how anyone would be that dang crazy but I guess if I ever felt the rush of riding a huge wave I'd be willing to risk it ya know?
